  1. It's going in to the dealer on Mon. I'll keep this forum posted.

Went to the dealer yesterday, service checked the car's Remote start, svc mgr. says that the rear defroster needs to be "on" when you shut down and leave the car.

I told him the owner's manual (climate control section) says nothing about leaving the df button turned on. It will ignore any previous settings. He insists it is working properly and says all the cars w/ this feature work the same way.

Anyway, a couple of days before going to the shop, we had a cold night, 28-30 F degrees, and it did defrost the back window in the morning like it should.

So, based on my experience, the service manager does not know what he's talking about, and, when using R/S, defroster does not activate above 32 F.

  2. It will turn on with remote start, only if it is enabled, using settings on the left side instrument cluster. Check out your owners manualm on this.

That's the first thing I checked, it's enabled. thanks.

I'm curious to know if it only activates at or below freezing when using remote start.

If I know the answer, it would indicate if the problem is w/ the remote start module.

  3. thought i'd start a post to give everyone a chance to ask any questions or express any concerns they may have regarding warranty, recalls, or TSB's. :sos:

We all know that the way stuff like this is worded, it can lead to more :banghead: than when you started. but there are easy ways to decipher the warranty and policy manual.

So, no matter what your question or gripe is, lay it on me and i'll do my absolute best to help.

Hello, Glad you can offer some insite on our Edges.

I'm not sure if theres a problem w/ my rear window defroster. Here are the details:

2012 Edge Limited, AWD, built, 10/11, I live in NY.

In cold weather, when I use the remote start, the rear defroster should work (it is set on auto on MFT left menu screen). I read somewhere that it works when temps are at or below freezing. Is this so??

It did work in the past, I saw it melt frost (rear view mirrors too) in early morning, I think it was above freezing at the time.

When I manually turn it on, it seems to work, but weak.

    The heating elements look fine.

Before I go to the dealer, I'd like to know for sure if at or below freezing activates the Defroster when using R/S.

    Thank you.

  4. Could your elements haven been damaged?

I doubt it. Aside from using window cleaner and paper towel, It does not get touched.

I read in the forum that it turns on (w/remote start) when temps are below freezing. Is this so?

But I think it removed frost in the a.m. when temp was above 32F.

    All else worked fine.

  5. Hello,

Does anyone know where the fuse for the rear defroster is?

I have the limited w/ remote start. When R/Started, it should among other heaters, fire-up the rear window, but it does not.

When I push the rear defroster button, it bearly works.

    Thx folks

  6. Hi akirby,

I spoke to the svc mgr. at the Ford dealer. They would need to hold the car for the day, and will not hand over the SD card b/c they fear the customer will "mess things up".

So it looks like I'll have to take it in.

I did download the software upgrade to a thumb drive, but to do the complete job, you need the card too, so i"m stuck.

Another question, SMR has another download for checking your current software level.

I followed the instructions to download, put the drive into the port in the car, started it, drive light was flashing, waited a few minutes, then removed the drive.

Version info should be on the drive, yes?

I go back to the SMR site, but did not find instructions on how to upload and find out what I have.

    What did I miss?

  7. Hello,

I read someplace about a new software release to update MFT nav systems.

There is a TSB out #12-11-1 that relates to 2011-2013 Edges and Explorers.

My Ford dealer has not contacted me about this, so I learned about it from SMR.

According to the TSB, the upgrade may need a new SD card, version A4.

    My question is;

1- Has Ford shipped or planning to ship the software upgrade thumbdrive WITH the SD card?

2- If it needs to be done at the dealer, will they charge you for the new A4 SD card?

3- If you had it installed. Asside from reinstalling addresses and reparing phone, does it run better?

    Thanks much all.

  8. Hello all,

Is it possible to go back to the previous software version of sync after you loaded the latest upgrade?

I ask because ford has removed several features that I liked on the current one. Besides, like many other folks, I do not use all the features it had to offer so it was fairly stable on my 2012.

    Thanks much.

  9. Dear Ford,

If you read this forum, please furnish an update that puts the temperature back on the home screen!!!

You have managed to overcome bankruptcy, managed to design state-of-the-art and advanced vehicles, and managed to blow the competition away. Why couldn't you leave this in??

Another nice-to-have would be to put the climate fan speed back on the home screen again instead of having to open the climate screen to see what level it's on.

Lots of complaints regarding the above. Do something about it please.

  10. Hello all,

On the latest version of navigation map software (installed March'12), is there a way to hide POI Icons on the screen and later retrieve (unhide) them.

My screen is set to show "fast food" icons and there are few that show in my area, but when I drive in to NYC they almost cover up the screen.

I pick the menu to "hide icons", but when I get home and try to unhide them, they are gone and I have to go thru and reselect "resturant" listing of icons again.

Other than going on a diet, is there an easier way to unhide them as they were originally stored?

    Thx much

  11. But to my point this system does not have a constant stream of data as the author suggested. It is used only when the owner requests services or in the event of a crash. Again, we are a long way from being able to have a robust enough cell network to support all this bandwidth and most certainly it won't come for free.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They can get data w/o your knowledge.

They can disable your car if "THEY" really want to.

  12. Wow is that guy paranoid. As Waldo mentioned the current GPS chips do not transmit but it is possible they could in the future. But realistically speaking why would they want to do this? The cost to implement a system to sort all this data would be tremendous. Satellite based communication is just out of the question so this would pretty much leave cellular service to transmit the data. I highly doubt the current networks could support this added bandwidth not to mention many areas have no coverage. I would think this will just be stored locally and probably only the last few minutes. Would I be happy about it no, but I also don't think it is the Big Brother thing he is portraying.

It exists now, GM (Govt. Motors) has OnStar......

  13. My guess would be that the belt is slipping when cold. I think if it was the alternator it would happen all the time. See if the dealer will change the belt. You may need to leave it with them overnight.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yea, for me thats the last resort. I know its under warrentee and all, but I'm afraid they might screw or damage something else and not tell you.

  14. I had this problem with my Sport early on, and the MFT was staying on ( original version), woke up one morning and the battery was dead. ford sent a tow truck to jump the battery. It went immediately into service, and when it came out they said the battery is fine, couldn't find a problem.... But, after that dead battery episode, I never had a battery light come on again.

I wonder if it got fixed when (or if) the battery was disconnected, resetting the software/electronics?

  15. That light indicates a problem with the charging system - could be the serpentine belt or the alternator. Does not sound like the battery if it's cranking ok.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Thanks all,

I'll check the belt. I was hoping it turns out to be something simple that I can fix it before spending time at the dealer.

The light will probably be off by the time I drop it off.

BTW, as Edgieguy said about the MFT staying on. I had the same problem (occasionally), but it went away when I installed the upgrade in March '12.

Seems like the new software is slowing down a bit since the install, but has not crashed yet.

When I drive into NYC, it really slows down when all the fast food icons pop up.

I need to hide them, but in doing so, I loose the settings and need to select them all over again.

Is there a way to unhide them w/o re-selecting?

  16. Hello,

Not sure if this is the right section to post this but here it goes.

My limited AWD check battery light comes on and stays on when I start the car for the first time in the morning.

It happends 2 or 3 days a week. When it does, the light goes out after 2 minutes or so while driving and stays off the rest of the day.

The terminals and fuses look ok. The car starts right up every time.

It has just over 7000 miles, and I'm thinking of taking it to the dealer, but just curious if this is a sign of a weak battery? All ready??

Has anyone in the forum have this happen and get it fixed?

    Thanks much

  17. Hello,

I am a new member and have a question about sync on my 2012 edge.

When I took delivery, the salesman demonstrated all the nice things sync can do.

I was impressed with accessing weather info and maps which worked nicely back then.

A few days later I tried calling up the weather myself. It worked a couple of times, but recently, it gets stuck on acquiring. I see an hourglass logo next to weather and weather map menus. The following day, the hourglasses are still there.

Is there a way to cancel or clear the acquiring mode or hourglass without doing a master reset. I do not want to loose my settings.

Also I notice that it takes about two minutes for the nav system to define a destination. Is this normal? My 2008 would create a destination in seconds.

    Thanks all.

  18. Called this morning, no ETA on when the part(s) will arrive, ( they must be coming from China or something or shipped out to fix all you guys ! ) so the wife's Edge will continue to drip brown spots on the resealed driveway all weekend now. And after reading all these threads, geeze, some of you guys that have been dealing with this since 2007, I can see how this is getting real irratating. So Ford has helped me decide here, I'm getting an 09 Ram Sport, not the 09 F150 FX4 that I test drove last week. This issue made up my mind to 'go to the Dodge side' for the new truck..

DODGE?? From the pan to the fire.

  19. Check to make sure that your PTU Unit isn't leaking. Bring to the dealer. The smell recently happened in my 08 AWD edge limited and The smell was unbearable. You'll find this happens whenever you drive for a while and stop at a light or to pick someone up. The heater brings in the smell from the leaking PTU unit spraying onto the exhaust. When your driving the smell doesn't go up the engine as the PTU unit is directly below it. When you stop however, the unit sprays on the exhaust and the fumes get sucked up into your heater and into your car. I JUST HAD THIS DONE, and if you check the forums, its VERY common. Hopefully the new seal on the PTU unit stays and this doesn't happen again.

    GOOD LUCK!

And otherwise I love my edge.

    Hi ZypherDraco,

Your description seems to be exactly what I'm getting. The smell is hard to explain, but others tell me it smells like burnt lubricant, so I think your right.

    I'll check under the car this w/e, but I have a couple of questions;

    1. How many seals on the PTU need replacement. Where are they located?

    2. How many days did it take the dealer to fix the car?

    Thanks much.

  20. I do a mix of driving and have found them to provide a better overall ride. The only thing you gain with the HP is the higher speed rating, which is meaningless with an Edge. The big plus with the regular Latitudes is that they will last longer. I have not seen any change with the handling or braking. And, they handle just the same as the HP's in the rain.

    KLC,

    I'm sold.

I just called Tire rack to switch my order to the plain Lats.

The plain lats are a little better on the snow, have a higher treadwear rating (as you implied), and they are less expensive too. I could live w/ slightly less performance, if there is any.

The icing on the cake is that they offered a $70 rebate on top of it all.

    Many Thanks :yup:
