Not sure if anyone is still looking for a way to use the nav system while in motion, or if it has been figured out yet.

I found this on another forum, and it works!

 

1. Take vehicle outside and agree to nav instructions. The gps needs to know its position.

 

2. Push hard nav button (on right side of radio). Go to your address book. Pick any of one of your saved addresses. Now that address is highlighted, look to right and push soft edit button. You will now see name of saved address.

 

3. Clear name of saved address and type in F-DEVELOP ON

(make sure to put space between DEVELOP and ON).

 

4. Now look to the upper left corner and you will see the word ADDRESS. Place your finger directly under the A and hold. If you do this right, the screen should change to the map screen.

 

5. Now push your hard menu button (on left side of radio). Across top of radio push soft SECURITY button. You have now entered security screen. You will see nothing in the lower right most corner of nav screen. Push your finger and hold in that position till the screen changes.

 

6. You now have entered a parameter screen. Locate DRIVING RESTRICTIONS release. When you push the button it should change to driving restrictions stop. Exit the screen by pushing the soft BACK button.

 

7. Congrats you have just programmed your factory nav radio. NOTE: Every time you turn your vehicle off, you will need to repeat steps 5 & 6.

 

Good luck and enjoy. If you choose to monkey around with your other parameters, do so at your own risk. I will not be responsible for your dealer service call. This programming sequence should work for only the so called first generation navs. It will not work on the 09, second generation. This has been used to reprogram many 07 and 08 Ford vehicles.

NYEdge: That is awesome!! I recently got rid of my Edge (it was a lemon!) but I had just put a switch on the VSS wire and hit it whenever I wanted to change an address.

I would have done this if I had know about it!

I followed the instructions here and got the items off of Ebay for pretty cheap. I added a basket to the cross bars for camping stuff and it works excellent. Taken it on several hundred mile trips with no issues.

I did the update and it only took about 2 minutes to get the second Installation complete. I left it in and about 20 mins later had not heard anything else so I rebooted. Everything worked fine. It was very easy to do. I uploaded the files without issue also. Don't notice any difference my Blackberry still doesn't do texts or the ringers but it does work as a phone fine.

A Little bit about myself- I've been customizing cars for years and with my new 08' Edge I don't plan on stopping. I've restored and constmized anything on wheels from old to new, from musslce to tuners or bikes. I like my cars to have clean lines (1 main reason I picked the Edge) a nice flowing body with tastful mods. You won't find any body kits, stickers, or badges on my cars or bikes. All my vehicals are Black and Blacker. Lol... I have a bad case of OCD with my vehicals so they are allways clean....and black is the worst...go figure!! Ok enough about that......

 

I'v been heavally involved with the forums pertaining to my vehicals so this isn't anything new to me. I like the forum sceen because it's a great way to share ideas and FYI's with your vehical cummunity. So with this beeing said, I'm excited to be here.

 

Now for the important stuff: I have a laundry list of stuff on oreder for my Edge right now. However I'm not all about what you can buy but what can you make!!

Also I am curious what you have on order and where from? I am looking to do a little to mine and I like the clean lines also. I went with the Dark Blue which has trouble staying clean too!

Take a look at Enclaveforums/Acaida/outlook... they're people with transmission issues

Quick questions: The old man has the 2008 Buick Enclave and it is a very nice vehicle. He was told he has the same transmission as in my Edge. They had to do an update to his and now it works alot better then mine. Also his has a button to shift between any gear manually.

So my questions:

-Is there an update for the Edge to make it shift like the Buick?

-Can we mod ours to manually shift between the gears?

Update for Sync

I dont see the actual update on the web site and today is the 8th, maybe later today. I did get the Sync Status Checker to work. Took awhile.

I had to format the USB drive in FAT, I then had to restart internet explorer, Then it installed on the drive.

I plugged it in to the USB port and started the car and nothing happened.

I then messed around and noticed there is an install option when in the USB screen. That worked.

I then restarted Internet explorer again and got the file to upload. What a pain.

plus insured shipping both ways on a heavy item and time to remove/install the nav unit.

 

these ideas of removing your nav unit and sending it in has potential, but maybe 1 in 100 people would actually make that effort.

Very true!! Does the unit weigh alot? Hadn't thought that part through. Adding up quickly!! Still have to buy a camera as well as this. I already have a car PC so I was thinking it wouldn't be too bad... now I wonder.

I am also interested in the back up camera for the Factory Nav Unit. Reading through the forums I found a link to an interface that works with the Ford Edge. The web site says to call for pricing, so I did. It is 250.00 for a two input (1 camera and 1 other .. DVD, computer, etc.) and you have to send the unit to them and pay 75.00 for the upgrade. (325 total) They stated they had a 1 day turn around. Sounded like they knew what they were doing on the phone. Also of note: The NAV unit is touch screen but when you update it you don't get to use the touch screen for a computer. Still works for factory unit.

Also FYI they told me that the dealerships use their company alot and the price can be put in the financing when you buy the car. If I had known that I would have done that!! Love the 0% loan!! So I am debating on doing it and will probably wait until I save up a bit of money. I will post how it goes.

PS they have a multi input for 550.00 and 75.00.

Sorry, didn't realize this was one of those forums.

The site itself works fine, I am having that screen when I put in my VIN number and click Next. It sits there for awhile and then I get the error screen. Oh well, have to try another day.

I have been reading away online and over at ford-trucks.com BeerStalker had a good post about disabling to VSS wire as needed. One of the links went to a PDF with a pinout on the back of the unit and a few other links talked about installing a switch. Has anyone got the unit to work completely while the vehicle is moving? Wondering if there is a better way or if this is a good way?

Just got my edge Wednesday and I was trying to create an account on syncmyride.com and repeatedly got this screen.

Just read through this forum and I wanted to reply about the USB problem. Check if your USB drive is running encryption and check to see if it is formatted in Fat32. The vehicle won't be able to read the drive if it is encrypted or formatted in NTFS instead of Fat32. Also possibly try a different thumb drive. Some only work in Windows XP/ Vista, maybe that is the issue.

Wanted to thank those of you who have commented in this post for taking the time .. you have helped me indirectly.. I have a 2008 Edge with Sync (obviously), and I am not a computer programmer or software developer, but I know enough that downloading to a thumbdrive, plugging it in the vehicle, letting the install run, and then plugging the usb back into the car sounds easy... but here is my catch.. Downloaded version checker, see it on usb, but vehicle will not see it.. says usb drive empty... Now, I don't have nav, and thanks to your posts, I see now that it is not really necessary for my vehicle... I am upset that there is limited help in regards to this.. I have checked version of internet explorer, I have downloaded updated Java version, and I see the install active x line under the menu bar at the top, and I click on it, and the download happens great... just the auto does not see it... frustrating to take the time to try to figure this out and now see not really important for my purposes.... I hope not to have this problem in the future....

Just wanted to say hi!! I just got home with my new Ford Edge Limited AWD and love it so far!! Of course I am looking to see if there are posts to fix the Nav system to be more user friendly.
