  1. OK, so I was on a straightaway in palo alto yesterday with a friend of mine on the way to breakfast, when a guy in a black 2007 escalade with a girl in the passenger side pulls up and gives me the "look." The light turns green and we floor it. I'm thinking he's got a lot of power, but he's also got a lot of weight. I get an early lead of about a half car length, from that point on we got and gave a few inches through 60 mph. at 80mph I looked back and he was still right there with me about a half car length behind. his passenger door was lined up pretty good with my left rear tire. a few secs later my friend leans over at the speedometer and goes "Wow, 105 thats the fastest I've driven!" I got to about 110 when we started breaking for the next streetlight. We laughed and waved farewell.

I was impressed. The Edge maintained the lead against the Escalade to 110 MPH. At first I was skeptical, but it is what it is.

Screw the safety Nazis I say "First On Race Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

  2. Hi All,

Just came across the site and registered. I'm considering a red 2009 Edge Sport. The dealer has let me have it for the weekend while they determine if they can give me what I want for my trade on Monday. So far, I really like it, but can't say that I "love" it, which is probably good when it comes down to negotiation time.

As my log-in suggests, I've got a SuperDuty right now. 2001, Lariat, 7.3 diesel. It's been a great truck, but I think I'd like to downsize now and get something I can actually get in the garage during winter! :)

Anyway, I'm prowling around looking for info about the Edge and what current owners think.

    Thanks,

    SuperDuty (John)

You should get a LOT of money for your 7.3 Those motors are legendary from what I have read.

Rumors have it that the 2011 EDGE will have a turbocharged, gasoline direct injection motor as an option.

  3. I have always used synthetic motor oil (Mobil 1). I will be taking delivery of my new Edge later this month. Is there any reason why I should not change the oil to Mobil 1 immediately?

Also, would this have any impact on the warranty if I do it myself? I am concerned about the level of maintenance documentation Ford would require if there is ever a engine warranty issue.

    Regards,

    Steve

I agree with 500ho and Computer guy. Synthetic oils reduce friction so much that you won't get proper break-in wear. Personally, I would go to synthetic at 6,000 mi. and then only with a FORD synthetic if there is such a thing.

Until my warranty is up I have the Ford dealer do ALL maintenance. Here is why. First, as 500ho said Ford (like most manufacturers) is a stickler on warranty repairs. If you dealer does the repair and maintenance on your vehicle, they have little to argue with. Second, most ford dealers will update the most recent "flashes" to your cars computer and will automatically perform any recalls. NO Jiffy-lube can do that. Lastly, most Ford dealers charge about the same as you local oil change store.

    I hope this helps.

  4. Last week we showed you photos of the 2011 Lincoln MKX. This week we’ve got the first ever photos of it’s chassis-mate, the 2011 Ford Edge! The Ford Edge first hit the U.S. market in late 2006 as a 2007 model, with the changes for 2011 model year being the ‘ute’s first major upgrade.

It’s seems like the Edge may be getting a tougher look for ‘11 model year. Underneath the camouflage, we can see two bars running across the grill that look more truck-like than the current model. There might be a third bar buried under there as well. New projector headlights and a lower fascia that resembles the 2010 Fusion Sport are also visible.

CLICK HERE TO READ THE ARTICLE.

So, "staff" c'mon please spill the beans. Will the 2011 Edge get the EB 25 or the EB35 or both? About ten bazillion Ford lovers would like to know.

  5. Just purchased an 08 left over Edge with 67 miles on it from a local Dealer. They gave me a good trade price for my truck and I was also able to get the employee pricing ! I have'nt really been able to go out and sit in it and play with the buttons yet cause it's been so darn cold outside ! So far so good ! I will be checking in now and then when I can finally drive her under normal conditions !

    That's a beauty!

  6. Given the ecomomic turbulence going on, can anyone forsee the price of the Ford Edge going down?

    I'm looking to buy used.

Currently here in Ontario, Canada I can get a 2007 SEL, AWD, leather, moonroof, etc. for around $26-28k (CAN). A few months down the line can you see the price of this car going lower?

Also, the 2009 will be coming out as well. Will this lower the price? How much do you figure?

In light of the fact that last night I saw that Ford stock was $1.10/share, I doubt they will lower their prices a whole lot.

  7. After I installed cross rails on my Edge, I decided to take some comparison photos of my Edge with other SUVs that where nearby. You can see in photos below how the Edge looks compared to an older model Grand Cherokee and a new FJ Cruiser.

Nice ride you got there. The FJ looks huge in comparison. Do you live in a state that does not require a lic. plate on the front or are you just breaking the law?

  8. After being without an SUV for myself (my wife has a Torrent), I decided to get back into something similar. I picked up an 08 Edge Limited, Vapor Silver with Black Leather Seats. While lurking through the forum, I saw that some of you had bought a side molding in attempt to stop door dings. Nothing more frustrating!!! So I went on EBay and bought one from Sportwing and had it installed at a local body shop. They didn't want to charge me, but I gave them a gift card to a local sandwich shop. Next to purchase is the trunk liner. What a pleasure to drive. Now if I can only get my Blackberry to Sync correctly so I can hear the phone GPS over the sound system.

    Nice ride Ron.

BTW thanks for your service to our country.

  9. Ours was doing the same thing but it happened all winter. So far this summer since I pulled the battery cable and let it sit. It seems to be fine .

I'd be driving along at a constant speed and after 10 or so miles I'd notice the RPM's are high. It stays at that state, flat freeway, cruise on or off often for quite a while. Then all of a sudden it flares and then the RPM's drop. The dealer of course could not see a code so it must not be so. I was thinking that it may be something with the lock up converter. Went from consistently to never since the reset.

I also had a jump in mileage.

Was it a jump UP or DOWN in mileage?

  10. How many Edge owners would consider buying a Ford Edge? Why or why not? Do you think it will have a cult following?

I am considering both, but I just can't belive that the Flex and the Edge get the same mpg. The Flex seems to be much heavier and yet has the same the power train. But the flex size might make towing easier, yet all the Edge owners seem to have no problem towing stuff.

I will wait to see what 2010 brings. Hopefully 3.5 EcoBoost!!

  11. Thanks. It seems to be an airflow problem  The car has 2200 miles on it, so I don't have to worry about the warranty expiring just yet, lol. Problem is, the car has been in the bodyshop longer than I have had it in my possession. I made the first car payment and 4 days later a guy hit the passenger side. It was in the shop since May 29th and I got it back last week, but it needs to go back due to paint and door alignment issues. The repair was $6K. I was very impressed with the way the car handled when I got hit. Solid car and my 4 year old daughter was in the car with me. The point of impact was her door. She was okay and didn't seem affected at all by the accident.

    Jenn

    Glad your child os OK.

If you look under the ford edge & lincoln mkx community under Ford edge and lincoln mkx community ( yes there are two of them), you will see a topic I started called "The Truth About Edge A/C" where you will find many and varied opinions on this critical issue.

If you can't find it I think you can click on my username and get to it. Good Luck.

  12. You should be able to get a small one no problem. Theres lots of place off of the 15 up there by Victorville-Hesperia. Just drove thru there today on our way back from Vegas. My uncle has a small box trailer he uses to move stuff around that is light as a feather.

P.s. Towed our Sea-Doos to Vegas last Sunday and stayed for the week. Baker grade 105 degrees 65mph, air conditioner crankin, 18 mpg. Took the 210 to the 15 and up. Cajon pass was no problem at all either.

    818 and IZZYAZ

Thanks for your input. Very encouraging.

If you're going to be in the Antelope Valley on the first Sunday in October, come up to Willow Springs Raceway around 9:30 am and watch me race....for 3rd place;-) My bike # is 921.

  13. We are talking about several issues in the same thread

    1) vent design - doesn't point air where it should go. (everyone seems to agree this is a weakness)

    2) Ability to cool the car down. Most who apparently have "working" AC say it is adequate but not great

    3) Air flow & the glove box trick. I would agree that if you have the fan set on max speed and you get no or very little air movement

out of the dash vents then this is a major problem. Assuming the fan is making soothing whirring noises the likely culpret is a blocked

or disconnected duct buried somewhere in the dash. The glove box open/better air flow would seem to indicate a possible location

for this problem. I have no problems with air flow and tried the glove box open trick. all I got was more noise but no change in

    air flow settings.

Unfortunately the last issue is a service one. It should be easily repeated with the service advisor sitting in the car so they can't say no codes, no problem. Still a pain but what are you going to do ?

Could it be that the ones that don't have problems with the air TEMPRATURE (as opposed to air VOLUME) have the towing package which gives you more powerful radiator fans?????

  14. It was a blast just to be on a closed track and I now have a much better understanding of my Edge's capabilities and limitations.

To be honest, I did not even notice the stability control which most likely means it worked well and didn't do anything intrusive. The only limitation I had was my own confidence, my driving skills and noticeable brake fade which slowed me down.

The down side of the whole thing was leaving the track and getting on the highway to go home. I don't think I impressed to many people by clipping the apex on the on ramps etc......

Have you looked into an aftermarket break upgrade?

BTW I know what you mean about being on a track. I club race my Ducati motorcycle at Willow Springs. I will never forget my first time on a track. No cops, no guard rails, no old ladies turning left in fron of me, no oncoming traffic... pure heaven.

  15. I live in Phoenix and the AC is flat out not designed properly. You should be able to feel the air coming out of the vents, the same manner as how a fan works in your home. It doesn't make it cooler but you feel cooler.

It's ridiculous that I have to put the ac on max to feel the slightest air movement. I have owned a dozen Fords in my life and rarely if ever used the max setting. With my Edge it's always on and it's still inadequate.

Maybe it's not settled that the EDGE A/C is OK.

It's almost as if some work great and some are crap.

I hope Ford addresses this inconsistency in QC......

Maybe there is a connection somewhere that Ford has missed or ignored.

  16. It isn't as if the AC is bad, it just doesn't measure up to some other vehicles in terms of being able to direct the airflow exactly where you want it and it doesn't "instantly" cool your car down like some other vehicles.

Its been 31* C up here recently and my car is comfortable to drive in after a couple of minutes. If you live in an extremely hot and sunny area and constantly get in and out of your car then I might really investigate it.

Why don't you stop in at any Ford dealer at the hottest part of the day and ask a rep to sit in a parked car and turn on the air for you and determine for yourself if it is a problem for you.

Yeah, I might try that. In a few weeks, my wife is going to get a test drive in a 2009 V6 Escape and I might just get them to let me try the A/C while we are there.

I would still like to know if Ford has actually done anything to help the situation since the '07 models.

  17. I am really interested in the Edge.

If I buy one, it will be a 2010MY. Hopefully it will have availabel the 3.5 EB motor.

What concerns me is that in this forum and other forums there are always complaints about the cold and voulme put out by the Edge A/C. This is CRITICAL to me because I live in SoCal.

Does any one who works at FOMOCO or otherwise, know what, if anythig, has been done about this in the new Edge?????

  18. How would a 340 hp twin turbo 3.5l engine get better mileage than the same engine without the twin turbos?

The 3.5L Ecoboost engine will get better mileage than a V8 that puts out the same power. It's not supposed to get better mileage than the NA version of the same engine.

That is one train of thought. However with the direct injection metering precise amounts into each cylinder, combined with the variable valve timing and the high cylinder pressure assuring complete combustion it might be at least the same. Add to that the old adage of a more powerful engine getting better mileage because it is not workig as hard and, all things considered, it might at least get the same mileage. It will be interesting to find out when the 2010 models come out. My fear is that they might not offer the 3.5 EB and just go with the 2.0 EB that gets about the same power as the NA 3.5.

  19. Your bike may only weigh 385lbs, but once you add in all the other stuff you normally take you can get up there in weight without thinking about it. Trust me, if you have space to bring stuff, you will bring it. The wife can always find extra stuff to bring if the space is available!!!! :stop:

You are wise and must know a little about roadracing. Yes, in the trailer will also go the generator (90lbs), tire warmers (7lbs), full gas can (35lbs), E-Z UP (50 lbs), front and rear race stands (20lbs) and two tool boxes (40lbs). In the tow vehicle will go the lap-time transponder, helmet, leathers, gloves, boots, suite case and ice chest, dog food, water bowl, Wife and Sheltie.

If I can find a trailer that weighs about 1,000lbs, I think I can come in under 3,500lb., right?

  20. Hey All,

Anybody know when the Twin Force 3.5 will be available in the Edge? Seeing how the Flex is "probably" going to get it and both vehicles are made in the same plant it would seem logical to make it available on the Edge. I am currently in grad school driving a 1993 Taurus SHO 3.2 and want to upgrade to a MY 2009 Edge when I graduate next year...but I would wait until MY 2010 for the Twin Force. Any info on this would be great!!! Then I will bug you about my future VIN!

It is called EcoBoost now and it seems it will be available in 2010

  21. with combined driving we struggle to get it to 20mpg. it's heavy, it's awd, i think the sticker said 16/24 so i figure we're getting about right w/ combined driving. still love it though.

This thread makes me wonder if the 3.5 EcoBoost will get any better mileage. Any thoughts????
