  1. Not sure if anyone is still looking for a way to use the nav system while in motion, or if it has been figured out yet.

I found this on another forum, and it works!

    1. Take vehicle outside and agree to nav instructions. The gps needs to know its position.

    2. Push hard nav button (on right side of radio). Go to your address book. Pick any of one of your saved addresses. Now that address is highlighted, look to right and push soft edit button. You will now see name of saved address.

    3. Clear name of saved address and type in F-DEVELOP ON

(make sure to put space between DEVELOP and ON).

    4. Now look to the upper left corner and you will see the word ADDRESS. Place your finger directly under the A and hold. If you do this right, the screen should change to the map screen.

    5. Now push your hard menu button (on left side of radio). Across top of radio push soft SECURITY button. You have now entered security screen. You will see nothing in the lower right most corner of nav screen. Push your finger and hold in that position till the screen changes.

    6. You now have entered a parameter screen. Locate DRIVING RESTRICTIONS release. When you push the button it should change to driving restrictions stop. Exit the screen by pushing the soft BACK button.

    7. Congrats you have just programmed your factory nav radio. NOTE: Every time you turn your vehicle off, you will need to repeat steps 5 & 6.

Good luck and enjoy. If you choose to monkey around with your other parameters, do so at your own risk. I will not be responsible for your dealer service call. This programming sequence should work for only the so called first generation navs. It will not work on the 09, second generation. This has been used to reprogram many 07 and 08 Ford vehicles.

  2. Are these them?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Pair-9-Headrest-LCD-Ca...34.c0.m14.l1262

Seems to have both 9" and 7" versions available. Just wondering how prone they are to skipping on the roads and how long they'll last?

Mind you, I can get 4 pairs for the same price as the 1 Ford wanted to install. But the Ford ones were top loading which seems cool.

    Yes, that's the seller.

They don't skip while driving and for the price, it has been well worth it.

  3. Nice, good luck , I hope this may be a sign for us as well. Did you say you went the BBB route?

Here's the part #'s used on my repairs:

1st Repair: 7E57*7275*D (Seal Kit), 7T4Z*7251*D (Power Take Off Assembly)

2nd Repair: 7T4Z*7251*D (Power Take Off Assembly)

Since the first PTU didn't hold up, I don't expect the second one to work either.

  4. I got an update from the dealer after I dropped my Edge off on Wednesday.

Looks like the second PTU is about to be replaced.

My Edge was the first vehicle that my dealer had serviced last December with the PTU problem and they went through the standard procedure of replacing the seals which of course leaked, and then replaced the PTU. Now that the PTU is being replaced again, I hope that the units now have better parts and this won't continue to happen.

  5. I just purchased a new 2008 Ford Edge Limited and it has about 1,000 miles on it and I am getting a burning smell. This smell is like a wax like burning smell. No leaks yet.

Someone please say it is something else - catalytic converter or something else.

You guys have me scared after reading this.

    Say it ain't so.

Sorry to say it, but it's probably the PTU leaking.

Check under the car to make sure that you didn't get a plastic bag blown on to the exhaust pipe.

The "classic" PTU leak smell usually works like this; When you drive your car and stop at a traffic light, parking spot, etc..., it will start the smell usually when you stop. You will usually have a very distinct smell and probally some smoke / haze coming in to the cabin from under the car.

My Edge had the seals replaced and then the PTU last year. My car was one of the first and parts were not available so the process took over a month.

Now my Edge has started to smoke again this week and I have already made an appointment at the dealer. Just waiting for a loaner car to be available.

They said that since this has been a more common problem; the parts are more readily available, and the mechanic should be able to turn it over fast.

The only thing that keeps me from totally freaking out is that the 5 yr. 50k powertrain warranty will cover this after I go over the 36k mile mark soon.

    Good luck

  6. I looked under the vehicle and not sure if yours is like mine, but mine has a black plastic splash guard in the way all across the front side, and only leave you an small hole on each corner, to inser the hand in there, of course I just took a quick peak but I do not think that there is room enough to do that, unless you remove the black thing (at least partially)....

As mentioned by other members in the other thread you have about the fogs; the splash guard should be moved out of the way. It is a very simple process and you shouldn't have any trouble. I think the hole process took around 15-20 minutes for both sides.

  7. NY,

I know you live in new york..but your edge would look sweet with some 20% tint or limo's all around. I know the cops going to be harassing you..but I think it would be worth it..lol.

    Sweet ride

Killermaze: I actually do have 20% on the front driver / passenger, but with the angle of the photo and the light coming through the windshield, it looks lighter in the photo. I have been stopped once since tinting last year and I was able to get out of the ticket. :happy feet:

    Thanks for your comments.

  8. I just replaced my front low and hi beams with the Nightbreakers and some HIR1 from Toshiba, this upgrade left me a good taste in my mouth and I was wondering how hard are to replace the fog light bulbs as well. The fronts were a piece of cake, I asked Daniel Stern and he recomended me the Nightbreakers as well, but my only concern is how hard to replace they are, are they accesible as the low and high beams, any experience on those???

I replaced my fog bubs last year with MTEC's racing halogen H11 12v 55W. The color I choose was yellow (they call it golden style MT-494) so that I can see better in the fog, and to be a little different from the other Edge's.

All you have to do is get on your back and slide under the front valance to do the swap.

  9. Over the past couple of weeks my light has also come on when traveling at highway speeds only.

The tire pressure is fine, so that's not the problem.

I'll probably wait until I switch out my chrome wheels for the stock wheels for winter riding.

Both sets have sensors and I have the learning tool to read the sensors into the cars computer.

  10. thanks for the info on this and to see someone has done it on some car. My one question, as per option #1, the one I would personally do as I have already rewired other functions in my car with rocker switches (my inside lights you can read elsewhere) is what other system is affected by this ground? That is, I wonder if the backup sensors or computer diagnostic system some or other function or feature would be adversely affected if the ground were left open? Am I correctly assuming part of the point of the toggle is not just to be able to select it to be open or closed ground, but that it would be flipped while driving (versus right from start) to disengage the ground and free up the nav? As I wonder what would happen if you left the circuit open, toggle on, for other features or sensors or computer diagnostics?

Actually I think what we need to find is the wire that transmits the vehicles speed to the Nav unit.

I think it's been previously mentioned but; The Nav unit does work with the car in drive as long as you are not going faster then maybe 2-3 MPH.

If it was just a park/ground wire, then the unit would not work if the vehicle was in drive at a speed of 2-3 MPH.

I haven't taken my unit out, but I presume that with a multi-meter and someone in the passenger seat, you could check each wire individually to find the wire that has a variable voltage reading that corresponds to the speed of the vehicle.

    Anyone try this yet?

  11. don't hold me to this for sure.. but I thought when you hit that "time to destination" button below the scale arrows it showed ETA and location details? or is it just ETA?

    Your right Lex.

I just went outside to try it, and it does display the street address.

I'll just hit that upon arriving at the destination to remind me of the house number.

Thanks, I'm not one for reading user manuals, but they might actually help sometimes. :P

  12. I think that the overall idea is a good one.

Perhaps the material suggested (dryer hose) is not the professional type of material most people are used to seeing in modified vehicles, but simplifying a solution is usually the best way to get started and then it can be refined.

I also think that if a mod performs its designed function, its a success.

I'll be looking into this mod with perhaps a more refined finish and I applaud anyone that tries something new. ;)

  13. Not at all.

It's like parking next to another Ford in a parking lot.

Your car does not recognize any other tire sensor because you registered a specific sensor to your vehicle.

    This tool works great!

  14. Well I got the TPMS tool and it works great!

It was extremely easy to get into the "Learn" mode of the Edge and program the TPMS sensors.

That is if you have the proper procedure to get into the "Learn" mode.

The tool does not come with any directions, but I wasn't really expecting it to either.

I watched a technician at the dealer scan my wheels so I wrote down the procedure.

That was about 3 months ago and I can't find the paper I wrote it down on  , so I searched online and came across a link on how to program the TPMS on a 2007 Ford Mustang.

The procedure is exactly the same and the link is: http://home.ptd.net/~safari/mustang/fsm/Training.pdf

The whole process takes about 2 minutes and it's done.

I highly recommend this tool to anyone that wants to switch out the stock wheels and tires with custom wheels and tires during the spring & winter.

You will also need to reset the TPMS sensors when you rotate your tires. If you do the rotating yourself, its not only more convenient but you also save around $45.00 in dealer fees to scan the tires.

  15. Thanks a lot, NYE.

I've got the same Edge just like yours, Black 07 SEL+ AWD, BAMR, but without any mod yet. Next step would be DIY headrest dvd and EVO tuner. Since I drive a lot, 11,000 miles in the 1st 6 months, I will be more interested in the fuel economy tune. The highway mpg you described in the other post are exactly what I currently get without any tune. I am hopeful for a 10% improvement after the tune.

How do you like driving your perf. tuned Edge with current sky high gas price? Here in MI, 87 regular just hit $2.49 this week (no name brand at 2.39~2.45), Ouch!

I'm totally satisfied with the performance of the vehicle.

As far as mileage: Here in NY the price for gas is around $3.55 for 87 octane, $3.65 for 89, $3.75 for 93 .

I own and operate a construction company and run five trucks, 4 of them are diesel.

With diesel around here running $4.85/gallon, It can easily cost $400 to fill up a tri-axle dump truck. :banghead:

That being said; I don't really mind spending around $60 to fill the Edge.
