  3. You have to remember that as temperatures drop, so do the CCA's. The CCA rating is for 32F. So, if the temps are below that, and the CCA's are already low, you WILL have the problem. I stand by the battery replacement idea, personally. But sure, you can try replacing the hood pin, or just cleaning it up with a wire brush or #0000 steel wool pad if necessary. Might have some rust/corrosion that is creating extra resistance in the circuit. Coat with dielectric grease before reinstalling.

The Battery was replaced, terminals are as clean as could be. I'm targeting the hood pin because it is exposed to the elements, thinking that some water got into it to cause issues.

  4. Well, it looks like the issue wasn't the battery, over the last week its been about a 50/50 chance of the Edge turning itself off. I'm starting to think it might be the cold weather causing issues as when it turns off it is below freezing (go figure) I might try a new hood pin as that is exposed to the elements the most. and it's a cheap part to try and diagnose an issue, thoughts?

  5. I think you are on the right track with checking the car battery. Have it tested for CCAs with a modern, digital load tester. Also check the wiring for the system, see if any cables are shorting or contacts/connectors show corrosion/contamination.

Remote starts usually have a runtime that is either fixed or user-programmable. If it is user-programmable with this kit, see if you can change the delay timer and it sticks.

I tried multiple changes within the system itself, changed the run times, disabled it, turned it back on, turned off the auto climate, just about everything in the menu has been toggled. And no changes in how it operates.

I'll go get the battery tested tomorrow, it is the original battery and might not be a bad idea to replace it anyways.

  6. I installed the OEM Ford 100 series remote start a few months ago when i bought my 2011 Edge. Worked flawlessly up until yesterday. Now everytime I start the Edge it's starts runs for a few seconds to 30ish seconds or so then stops. No warnings on the car, no lights, nothing. The only thing I can think of in my research is low battery voltage but I checked that and it's holding 12.25v (a little low, but still good) after sitting overnight, and the truck still starts normally with the key, and remote but shuts off on its own with the remote.

Anyone got any ideas on this one?

    Thanks

  7. The winters can indeed be quite bad in NY, and I have heard that the roads have improved in Rochester since I was there last, but then it was like driving from pothole to pothole!

As far as remote start, I believe you are correct. The "definitive" thread is this one, I am sure you have already referred to it:

    http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/17035-adding-oem-remote-start-kits-parts-explained-detailed-2011/

I've read thru it several times, there is talk about multiple systems in there and I just want to confirm what I need for the 100 series plug and play, and if I have to add a security module I keep seeing mentioned throughout the tread but I believe that only pertains to the 200 series.

  8. Welcome, James, congrats on the '11 Cinnamon Edge! Nice looking Focuses (Focii???) as well! Quite a transition from AZ to NY, bet you don't miss the 50C heat :)

I grew up in NY, went to school and AZ and for some reason decided to moved back, I'd take the summer heat over the cold winters anyday!

The foci were/are fun, I miss my car already but driving the Edge to work today was a nice change with the comfy leather seats and all the space I would want!

  9. Hello Everyone!

I'm James. I have been a Ford owner a long as I have been driving. Im a Moderator on a few Ford Focus forums. and I've been casually looking to replace my 04 Focus that has been on winter duty for a while now. A few weeks ago she developed a misfire, no big deal. But it got me to realize that with 188K on the clock I had no desire to keep putting money into her to keep fixing all the little problems that pop up. The car has never had a major issue, it left me stranded once when the ignition cylinder locked up and that's really been it.
So after 10 years, 4 months, and 6 days of ownership and some 161,000ish miles of driving, I traded in my focus on a used 2011 Ford Edge SEL AWD. The extra space and AWD will be a welcome addition this winter.
Here is my focus in its hayday when I lived in Arizona, I miss her already.

I also have a 2012 Ford Focus SE, Painted in Yellow Blaze which Ford only painted in 2012 on the Focus.
I've spend some time looking around the site so far, mostly about putting in a remote start. From what I gather I only need:
    100 Series Plug and Play, Part# BC3Z-19G364-A
    Hood Switch Kit, Part# BT4Z-19G366-A
And a trip to the dealer to get it turned on and keys cut, Is my information correct? Thanks in advance!
