  1. Update on installing puddle lamps on a vehicle that didn't come with them. There is no wire in the harness for the lamps if they weren't installed at the factory. So I have to improvise. I can connect a small relay to the wire that turns on the switch lights when the door is unlocked and I will use another small relay connected to the automatic door lock to trigger them off. This way they will come on when the doors are unlocked and turn off when the doors lock almost like the factory, I just need time to do it. I will take photos and have a diagram to wire the lights so anyone can do it if they wish.
  2. Today I bought a wiring diagram on ebay so I'll even be able to do more crazy stuff.
  3. I got the lamps from jagtradingonline on ebay. I just checked and he doesn't have any for sale at the moment. The total height of the lamp is 1 1/4" and the cutout for the hole will be 3/4" and I would not cut anything because it ruin the watertite seal.. I took off the mirror to check clearances, I don't think i'll have any issues there. I have replaced mirrors before its not hard if you tilt the mirror downward and have a long screwdriver to release to tabs. I will most likely have to run a wire, wouldn't be the first time. I just need to know where to run the wire from. I will use the existing harness connector and add a pin where the power mirror plugs in behind the oval black molding on the door. I was hoping they had run the wire into the door harness and all I would have to do was find it and tap it.
  4. I picked some up on ebay. They are led live baitwell lamps. Paid $ 12.00 for them. They look just like the ones that came on my neighbors 07 Edge. I could tap into the mirror power however them they would be on all the time. Or, are they on whenever the headlight are on and if that's the case, ill tap into the power line that lights the switches.
  5. I'm looking to install some puddle lamps. Does anyone know where I can tap the harness for power? I'm also installing leds in the interior door handles, I found the wire to tap in the door harness. I'll post pictures of the install.
  6. AWD My wife never gets stuck in the snow any more.
  7. No, I just take the mat off. My long term goal is to get another top piece, I had noticed and experimented by removing the top piece and taking some measurements while I had the dash panel off to hook up a subwoofer, that I think I have enough room to set up a mechanism to have the gps raise and lower into the dash. Making a door that fits properly and opens and closes I think will be the hardest part.
  8. To remove the gps you simply pick it up. The only thing holding it in is the two pins that go into the two holes in the dash. The aluminum face cover is stock from the factory.
  9. I put mine on to of the dash in the center. I fabricated from sheet metal a mounting bracket. I welded two pieces of 5/16" steel tubing on the underside of the bracket that align with the two holes under the rubber thing that normally sits on top of the center section.I bolted the bracket to the mount that comes with the gps.
  10. Yesterday I installed four JBL p8652 6x8s. The difference was stunning. My radio is non nav with sync. I had to do something because the stockers were beginning to sound like they were torn at low volume. I also installed a factory sub woofer I bought on Ebay for $65.00 shipping included, I know it's not the best however, it bolted right up, the harness was already there and it was a simple matter of tapping into the rear channels to drive it. For the hookup I used a PAC line converter, an EDCOR stereo to mono converter, and a patch cable from Ebay. The line converter is adjustable, making it perfect to get the correct volume from the sub to match the rest of the system. The stereo to mono converter is a transformer type so there is no feedback or shorting like a Radio Shack stereo to mono cable generates.
  11. I had my dealer install the update. I didn't see see any difference in connectivity or any other improvements. I watched them do it. All I could see them do was plug into that big machine they use when troubleshooting. The service manager said something about reflashing and downloading a certain file.
  12. Fourth Gen Ipod. I've been to syncmyride. I think it's a windows thing.
  13. We bought our Edge last month to replace a 2001 Taurus after my wife was rear ended. We had it for two days before my wife let me drive it ( she loves it ). I thought something was wrong with the brakes. A trip to the dealer and in two hours they corrected the problem. The dealer said it was defective rotors and they changed the rotors and pads. Now the brakes work like should. The brake pedal is a little soft for my taste, may just be the pads. But the four wheel discs grab and you can feel it squatting and not nose diving like a disc/drum setup. I must admit it is easy to overdrive the thing. Stability control takes over and I find myself driving a little faster than I normally do. And it is something I need to develop some discipline in. The doors all line up, no leaks so far, and I can't tell the if the transmission is changing gears unless I watch the tach. There is some engine noise if you put your foot into it but nothing unusual. One strange thing is the amount of wind noise at highway speed with the windows down. I have talked with people who experienced this strange phenomena with their late model cars. It seems car manufacturers don't want us to drive around with the windows down. My only real complaint is with the SYNC system. I had to spend $37.00 to buy a cable to get my Ipod to work and it dosen't always sync up when the vehicle is started in the morning. I have to unplug and replug the Ipod to make it work. It also will not index all the songs. It gets confused when I use my cell phone, it tells me I have four different numbers for my home phone. Ah Microsoft. I am thinking about getting a USB hard drive to put all my music on but I heard I will have to do it on a windows computer and all my music is on a Mac.http://www.fordedgeforum.com/style_emoticons/default/banghead.gif http://www.fordedgeforum.com/style_emotico...lt/banghead.gif
