  1. I choose the Edge over the MKX because of the following reasons:

    1. Price(biggest reason), if I wanted to pay that much I would also have to look at the Mercedes, BMW & Lexus, but that just not us.

    2. I do not like the front grill of the MKX (reminds me of an old persons car).

    3. The dash looks old and dated with square like gauges (reminds me of an old persons car).

What I like about the MKX is:

    1. The MKX upgraded wheels are nicer; I’m disappointed that the bolts are not covered on the Edge even though I saw a 500 with some nice wheels. I got the chrome wheels but they do not look that expensive.

    2. I like the rear better.

    3. The interior door panels are nicer and should have been on the Edges SEL model.

    4. The MKX offers better options (auto tail gate, cooled seats, wood grain) should have been offered on the Edge.

Even though I’m old (40’s) does not mean I want to drive something that makes you seem old. That’s my 2 cents on the matter it came down to what we felt like spending on a vehicle and what I thought looked the best. I don’t really want to pay above $30k for any car, but did for the Edge (maybe I’m cheap) but I do think both of them will be great cars.

    :yup:

  2. Found out my car was built this week! :hyper:

That’s the good news, but according to a vehicle tracking lady today Oakville is backed up with some of their shipping because of the rail strike. My question to Oakville is: “Are you shipping fully now and have you cleared out your back log of built vehicles? If not then how much behind are you and how long till shipping catches up? Basically if it’s built this week how long till it makes it to Houston?

In good news I know that the union has voted but was waiting till March 26th to receive mail-in votes to fully ratify their new contract, but CN reports that some are heading back to work now.

  3. I've seen the downshifting problem with the six-speed automatic mentioned elsewhere, and that's one of the things I checked for last evening when I test drove the Edge. Sure enough, when cruising at 45 mph and flooring it, the transmission downshifted in to second gear, or maybe first gear, and the RPMs went to almost 6000! At that point, there was virtually no acceleration left in that gear, and it seemed to just hang there until I let up on the gas pedal a little, then it upshifted. This seems like odd behavior, and I was wondering if anyone has heard of an upcoming firmware change that might correct this problem. After all, it's only software. :stats:

In a related note, I was reading MSNBC's review of the Saturn Aura, which has a six-speed automatic, and they mentioned that early customers of it were unhappy with the transmission's decision-making, so GM reacted immediately, improving the transmission in new cars and giving existing customers a free software update when their cars visited the dealer. Since we know the Edge transmission was codeveloped with GM - what a revolting thought - and is a six-speed automatic, could a firmware update along the lines of GM's be coming? :shift:

I would hope Ford would make the firmware upgrade available free when we visited the dealer. Keep customers happy, make vehicles they want and get Ford back to the top.

  4. jrod,

I'm also sorry to hear the bad news. I really appreciate your help on tracking our Edge.

I'm not sure what your status will be with Ford in the future, hopefully you'll get back to what you like doing, but for now it certainly is their loss.

I hope Ford realizes the good service you have been providing to us customers and the goodwill towards Ford you have earned them with your efforts.

Good luck in the future and may God bless you.

  5. jrod,

I thought I could wait a couple weeks for more information but I can't, could you please see what stage our car is in now?

  6. Congratulations!

That’s one great first car to buy with your wife, we bought a Explorer as our first car together and now 11 years later are giving it up for a new Edge (coming in march). We have enjoyed the Ford quality and solid feel of their vehicles ever since.

  7. Congratulations on your new Edge SEL+ Crème Brulee! That’s great news about the response that people are giving you. We almost bought a Highlander 5 mos. ago but fortunately, my wife and I decided to wait and see what the Edge looked like. I’ve always have liked the looks of the Edge and it made the Highlander look so dated, it even makes the new ’08 look bland. I hope my Redfire Edge arrive around St Patrick’s Day :hyper:

  8. I don't know about the MKX, but I believe the Bluetooth is a dealer added option on the Edge. I hope the '07 cars are able to be retro-fit for Sync. I believe you can start ordering in Aug. for the '08 models normally, but with such a late delivery on the '07's maybe they all should called '08's :shades: . The fall models usually hit the dealers Sept. or early October. The nav system I believe is voice activated.

  9. I'm hoping the Ranger will grow to a mid-sized truck with an option for a crew cab, that gets great gas milage (maybe the new 3.5L w/ 6 speed trans.). I'll be looking for another truck (currently own a Supercrew) in 2-3 years and would prefer to buy a Ford then, but right now it would have to be between a Toyota tacoma (4dr) and a Chevy colorado (4dr). I use my truck for driving to work (highways) and the weekend trips to Home Depot for home projects. I want a truck with some interior space w/ four doors, but just not a full size, and I don't need to tow 6,000 lbs. It needs to look good and ride good and quiet.

  10. That’s great! We ordered a Redfire SEL w/ med Stone leather interior, Premium Pkg., BAMR, 18” chrome wheels, audiophile and cargo conv. package. Redfire seems to be a popular color and I think all the interior colors look nice. We already have a Red ext. / camel int. Supercrew and did not want the same combination.

We would have loved to order the Edge in Ford’s Wedgewood Blue (or is it wedgestone blue?), but they did not make it available even though Lexus/ Toyota seem have that approximate color this year.

I know there is a poll for favorite color, but what is the count for actual vehicles bought or on order on this forum?

  11. I ordered mine in Redfire also but with Med Stone leather interior. The red is a true deep metallic red not a red with an orange tint like my supercrew.

The darker colors look the best, especially with the chrome accents. Redfire looks fantastic in person, nothing like the color on the charts they have. Always see the colors in person, I have seen all of them and they all look different than the color chart.

  12. Congratulations!

That’s one beautiful car! It looks great with the 18" chrome wheels.

How's the ride after being able to be in one longer than 15-20 min.? I've only been able to test drive one SEL and two SE's which is not much time behind the wheel.

Our Redfire SEL looks like it should be in sometime around St. Patrick’s Day if they keep on the schedule that they seem to be on with other people’s orders. :happy feet:

  13. Don't know if you can add it later, it seems like they have maybe glued in some foam around the spare and would have to be removed before the storage trays could be added. That's one of those little things that should have been a no-brainer for this vehicle. A little $10-$20 item max for added a little extra storage capacity (I know MSRP $65/Inv $50 something, but bulk cost is a lot less). Could have been one of those little standard items that would have put it over the top.

  14. They had a car like that at the Ford dealer I'm buying ours from (it's a beautiful car; the Redfire is the best color in my opinion). We did not want another red car but that was the best color available. We already have a red Supercrew with camel interior, so my wife wanted a different color interior at least (one camel is enough). We thought the Med Stone was a nice Grey Taupe color, blacks just to warm for Texas. I believe they are getting out the fully loaded ones faster than the special order types. We found some fully loaded ones, but could not find one exactly the way we wanted it.
