  1. I tried to get a look at my brake pads on my '08 MKX, but couldn't see much. Is there any trick to getting a look in there, or do I need to remove the wheels?
  2. I recently upgraded my '08 MKX to the 1.2 version of Sync. It was a bit more difficult than I expected, so I will post my experience here to hopefully help other Mac users. I tried to do the upgrade via Safari and Firefox under Mac OS, both had trouble with the download applet. With Safari, I got as far as identifying the flash drive, but download would claim to fail (even though it was able to write some install.lst file, it somehow couldn't save the firmware). Next, I tried Windows XP from within VMware Fusion, but had trouble getting it to recognize the flash drive. Finally, I went into Windows 2000, also from within VMware Fusion, and got it to mount the flash drive. Using Internet Explorer 6 I was able to get it to download the firmware, and upload the status after the install. Have others had better luck doing it in Mac OS X? The actual install of the 1.2 firmware took about 10 minutes.. after one minute it said "Install successful", then rebooted. About 8 minutes later, it again said "Install successful", and was ready to go.
  3. Many iPods are supported by Sync, check out their support matrix at: http://www.syncmyride.com/Own/Modules/Comp...diaPlayers.aspx Also, you shouldn't need a special cable if your iPod is supported, just the standard iPod USB cable. It charges and transfers music over the USB. The USB + Line-In cables are for unsupported units. They charge via the USB/Dock connection and play music via Line-In. I use my Gen. 4 60GB iPod classic in my MKX, and it works great.
  4. Garmin has several mount types.. the suction cup / windshield mount comes with the Nuvi, they have the no-slide bean bag base for placing on the dash, and they have the cup holder mount. There are also vent-attached mounts, but I'm not sure if those are Garmin or after market. I use a cup-holder mount, which has worked pretty well for me. It keeps the Nuvi down out of my line of sight, but still works fine for GPS reception. I'm looking to either get a better cup holder mount, or find something better for my MKX's layout. I'm not sure about the Edge, but on the MKX, there is a power point right in front of the shifter where the dash meets the center console. This would be an ideal GPS mount. One that plugged into the power point and extended out a few inches from there would be perfect. Since it's plugging into the power point, it should also power the GPS unit through the mount. I may try to hack one together myself, but my available tools are limited, so I can't do anything too customized. If I can find power adapter with a short USB cable, that would be a good starting point. Beyond that, it may take some support extending down a bit, since I wouldn't want the power point to be bearing any load.
  5. Thanks for the response. I didn't find that specific product on your www site, but I think I know basically what it would be like. Something which mounts into the power port under the radio might also be an option on the MKX. I will take another look and see what all the mounting options look like.
  6. I'm also interested in this.. My MKX had two round rubber pieces in the center console, which I figured out were for the cup holders. But, there was nothing else. No accessories bag. What else is supposed to be in the bag?
  7. I checked this again this evening, and now it is charging. I am not sure what the difference is, but the icon is now showing the power plug, which it wasn't before.
  8. I just picked up an '08 MKX, and opted for one without Nav and kept my Garmin Nuvi 350 instead. In my old Explorer, I hacked together a mount from on old suction cup mount and some PVC piping. It fits in the cupholder. It does the job, but I would like to do something a bit more aesthetically pleasing for my MKX. Has anyone done a project like this before and have suggestions? Or, are there any commercial kits available that can mount in the MKX without permanent / major damage?
  9. I just picked up a new '08 MKX with Sync, and plugged in my Gen 5 iPod. The basic functionality works fine, it indexed my library and does music via the USB connection. The only problem is that it doesn't seem to be charging my iPod via the USB. Is this normal? I am currently using a standard apple sync cable, which charges the iPod when I connect it to my laptop. Do I need a special cable to enable charging? I see the Keyspan Sync cable claims to support charging via USB.
