  1. Reviving an old thread because I have a related question. How do the steering wheel switch pods come out? I have the steering wheel out of the car but I don't see any fasteners for the switches. Do they just pry out? Thanks.
  2. My 08 Limited has Sync and does have an oval puck antenna on the rear spoiler. Does the radio need to be programmed to the car, or is it plug-n-play? And how much are you asking for it?
  3. Need a steering wheel for an 08 Edge, stone color, in nice shape. I do NOT need the airbag. Please contact me via PM with picture and price. Thx.
  4. Ok, got the answer talking to a speedo shop. You pop the needles off and then there are little collars under the needles that you carefully pry off. Then the plastic overlay comes out. For those wondering, no, there aren't any serviceable parts inside. One pcb with everything on it. The reason I took it apart is that the clear "window" of the overlay sheet doesn't line up properly with the alphanumeric display, so it looks very cheesy. I thought they may have been mis-assembled and I could adjust them a bit. In fact, there was no mis-assembly, very little slack and no room for adjustment. Apparently the misalignment is just part tolerances. In other words, poor quality. If you have this problem, don't bother. Just get another cluster.
  5. So basically a nav unit is only useful to someone who already has one from the factory but maybe it went bad?
  6. Wondering if anyone knows how to take the instrument cluster apart. I got it out of the car, the lens pops off and so does the bezel assembly, but you're then left with the gauges and electronics in the housing and no obvious way to take it apart.
  7. Thank you very much. Exactly the info I need. BTW, only the front sills have the metal plates on the Limited, so I believe the rears are the same for all trim levels.
  8. My Limited has plastic door sills with large metal plates (inserts?) with the EDGE logo. The metal is corroding and looking crappy. Do all models have this metal plate, or is it only on the higher lines? I'd be just as happy replacing them with plain plastic sills with no logo, if available in the stone color.
  9. Gentlemen, Sorry I created such a stir (or maybe people have too much time with the holidays). I suggested 2 alternatives. I am not trying to convince anyone to follow what I did. Just trying to be helpful. As all anonymous info on the web, you should use your own judgment. @enigma-2: The nut you saw on eBay is NOT the nut the hold-down screws into. Look at the picture carefully. The hold-down screws into a clip-nut that is part of the tray and is not sold separately.
  10. Ummmm... no, I'm not Rube-ing any battery, we're talking about the hold-down hardware here. Which would mostly come into play if you roll the vehicle. The edges of the tray restrain lateral and fore-aft movement of the battery. Easy enough to check how sturdy the hold-down is. Most new batteries come with a carrying handle or strap. Install the hardware and then pull up on the battery strap real hard.
  11. According to who? Where exactly did you get that? Is that your own recommendation? If so, perhaps you could state your credentials.
  12. OK, I found the answer the hard way so I'm posting for future readers. The long thin bolt goes through the plastic wedge block and screws into a clip nut that is part of the battery tray. Both the bolt and the clip nut rust and corrode with time and battery acid (yes the Motorcraft OEM batteries do leak enough acid to make a mess). Once they corrode it's impossible to take them apart and the first time someone tries to remove the bolt it will break the bolt and/or clip nut. In my case the end of the bolt is broken off and the clip nut is totally gone. The expensive solution is to buy and install a new battery tray and new bolt. The clip nut is not sold individually. The cheap and quick solution is to use a large diameter sheetmetal bolt. Find the largest bolt that barely goes through the wedge block. It will screw into the hole in the battery tray just about perfectly.
  13. Thanks, I have that diagram and I have parts 2, 3 and 4. But there is nothing there for the bolt to screw into. And the diagram doesn't show anything there.
  14. 2008 Edge Ltd. It looks like I'm missing something but can't figure out what. I have the long thin bolt stuck into the plastic wedge but it doesn't go past the wedge (maybe the end of the bolt broke or rusted away) so the whole thing just sits there loose. There is a hole in the battery tray but no captive nut or anything else for the bolt to thread into. Does anyone know what I'm missing? Maybe a picture or parts diagram? Thanks
