  1. MyFudge, please let us know what you find out the issue to be. I hope being a week later now that you already called roadside assistance. It sounds like even though the lever is in part, the transmission isn't physically in park hence you can't start the car and it won't stay in place.

  2. Please note there is no pan or regular drain plug on these transmissions like your typical unit. GM/Ford designed them to be sealed units. In order to change the filter you have to split the box and remove the front support and oil pump then reapply RTV and reassemble. Quite a mess to service it.

Very good quality though coming out of the Ford plant. We are having a lot less issues than the GM manufactured version.

  3. I followed tire pressure and rotation schedules and my Continentals wore out at 20k. I talked Discount Tire and Continental into giving me $75 off per tire this time. I guess they can't handle my driving style. I saw one driving in Gross Point, MI w/ Canada plates on it yesterday with Pirelli Scorpions on them. I presume possibly what they will be coming with from now on like the F150 w/ 20s?? I hope. I hate Continental. Didn't like them on my Expedition either.

No other issues to report. Fuel Mileage right in middle of the EPA sticker for my '07. Even though I make the transmission I do wish I could get rid of the hesitation in my tranny. I think I get it confused with what I want to do sometimes.

  4. "when" it happens to me, i'm going to request the painted 18's, and hope for the best. i was wondering about the grill (one of the reasons the Edge looks so good) and it's life expectancy.

The grill is different because it isn't a cover like on the wheels. I have heard of this before. Hopefully they change the design. I have 25k on my '07 SEL Plus with no problem yet. I am not sure why they went this direction, but I am sure weight was one of them. Chrome steel wheels would be heavier than Aluminum w/ Chrome Cover. More weight in wheels = lower MPG. I do think it is bull to charge $800 for them though.

  5. Great illustration, so many people say a flash fixes the problem, no way, this is mechanicle. Great INFO......

This is exactly correct. Please note GM designed the park mechanism. So the Acadia, Outlook, Aura, Malibu have the same "concern".

kalu, there won't be a recall for this. We have been building these transmissions for over 2 years now. There are government regulations regarding how much the car can roll when put into park and GM/Ford wouldn't violate this. I don't know what the spec is, but I am sure this transmission meets it. There are a lot less teeth on this park gear than the Focus transmission, but it is really beefy. Also, when you engage park, the rod presses against an actuator resulting in the rod pressing against the pawl directly in this transmission. It will find its way into the next cog.

  6. Check out my reply in PTU (Transfer Case)

I currently own a 2007 Mazda CX-7, which is the Ford Edge, and having oil leak and tranfer case replacement issues.

Please note that the CX-7 is very different than the Edge. Ford doesn't make the transmission for the Mazda CX-7 or CX-9 yet even though the CX-9 uses the same 3.5 Duratec out of Lima, Ohio the Edge does. Very likely they use a different transfer case also.

I know Ford doesn't make the transfer case for Edge/MKX. Not really sure who does. Anyone know?

  7. The Lincoln MKS will have the same transmission as the Edge, but with a slightly lower K-factor torque converter and it will have the manumatic shifting capabilities. Job 1 for it was May 5 so keep an eye out for it in the near future at dealers near you. More importantly with regards to this topic is you may be able to derive something from the MKS.

  8. I live in SE Michigan and the worst MPG my 2007 FWD Edge has ever gotten is about 16. Granted 2007 EDGE FWD has 2.77 ratio gears vs 3.16 for 2008, but that 16 was doing HARD City driving. A lot of hard acceleration involved in that. Typically I get 18-20 in about 80% City driving with mine. I now have 25,000 miles on it and absolutely love it.
