I picked up the new side view mirror from the dealer this afternoon and installed it myself this evening. With my wife helping hold the new mirror in place when I tightened the nuts on the mounting bolts, installation of the new mirror took less than 5 minutes.
I took off the small black inside trim on the door, inside of the side view mirror. That exposed the 3 mounting bolts and wiring harness, no need to remove the interior door panel.
So I saved myself some money on the installation and couldn't be happier.
Here is a picture of the mounting bolts and wiring harness once the interior trim piece is removed. There are two clips holding the trim piece in place, on the top near the right side and about in the middle. I worked my fingers under the trim piece on the dash side first and it popped right off -
I was able to salvage the painted back cover and snapped it in place on the new mirror. Once I popped off the painted cover from the old mirror, I could see just how much the plastic housing was cracked.
And the new piece installed, again it took less than 5 minutes, a very easy job. Once installed, I tested the power mirror and everything worked like new -
