  1. I'm looking at trading in my 2008 Scion xD for a 2012 Ford Edge Limited...my question is I drive about 50 highway miles a day (5 days a week) and of course want to save money on gas, but I was wondering what everyone thinks in regards to buying the regular V6 verse the EcoBoost? Is the EcoBoost really worth the extra $995?

    easy as math

current engine MPG - Edge Ecoboost MPG (based on city/country mix) * $/Gallon * Miles over x years = total savings. Compare that to $995

  2. Hello,

I currently have an 08 SEL that is coming off lease. I’m pretty sure between the costco discount and Xplan that I want to lease another Ford. The Explorer seems a little bigger than I need (not to mention a little more expensive) and the 2013 Escape perks my interest – but I’m leery of buying the first year of a generation + I know the lease rates will be high when it first comes out.

Edge has a great 3% 48 month lease in Canada right now, and as mentioned there’s the Costco rebate in effect. We love the vehicle, and the new Edge would actually be a limited so there’d be some nice perks we don’t have now. My wife is really pushing me towards this as she feels the Escape would feel a lot tighter (we have a kid and a large dog). The only holding me back is that I already have driven an Edge of this generation. Would anyone else be adverse to buying the same model vehicle twice in a row? I’m also hung up on the fact a redesigned Edge will be out in 18 months (not that I can wait for it, I have to get something in the next couple of months). Am I being irrational in my thoughts? I love the vehicle but there’s something about wanting “new” when getting a new vehicle.

Just curious if the crowd falls on my wife’s side (“you love the car, why wouldn’t you get it again?) or my probably wrong side of “but we already had one”.

  3. Just saw that the MXK (in Canada) has a 0% lease over 48 verse Edge @ 2.99%. That's about $80-$85 a month in payments or $4-$5K in MSRP right there. Going to search the forum for MXK vs Edge thoughts.

Appreciate the feedback on the Sorento, have a feeling I'd be the same was as your neighbour

re: Escape - I think we can order in Jan (?) for delivery in April, fingers crossed

  4. Hello,

It's been awhile since I've been on these forums but with my 08 SEL lease almost up, I thought I'd pick the brains of the group. My original thought was to get a 2012 Explorer, but the more I thought about it the more I realized it's a little too big for the city + with only 1 kid and a dog, the extra space is not imperative. Thought about waiting for the 2013 Escape, but who knows when it will actually be released, and despite the dimensions sounding on par with the Edge, and the cargo space actually being bigger (how is that possible given how small the current generation Escape cargo space is?) I'm back to the Edge being nicer.

Although I love my 08 Edge, and have been happy with Ford service overall, I'm reluctant to buy another for two pretty stupid reasons. 1: The 2012 despite having a refresh last year is still the same generation. While the interior is a bit different, it's the same vehicle. For as much as I do love it, the thought of driving the same vehicle for another 4 years is less than appealing. My wife thinks I'm stupid since if I love the vehicle why not get it again, + going from an SEL to Limited will make a difference. 2: With this generation getting long in tooth, I think there's a new model coming out in 2014 (2013 calendar), or 2015 at the latest. I'm reluctant to buy something that will be "old" in 18months.

I've also been looking at a Sorento Luxery, which is pretty much equipped as well as the Edge Limited AWD, but about $6K less. It didn't ride as nice as the Edge, but was still a nice vehicle. I can't find anything else in the $40-$45k (Canadian) CUV price range, fully loaded, that has the same cargo space or quality. The Morano was the closet but it felt smaller.

Hoping for some feed back on a couple of things:

    - Anyone else compare the Edge to the Sorento? Thoughts?

    - Any other model that you would suggest for a CUV in the same price range with at least the same cargo space 2nd row up?

    - Anyone heard anything on the next generation Edge?

    - Any thoughts on the 2013 Escape? Will it really be as big as the Edge?

And lastly, the one I'm sure everyone's dying to talk about again - MFT. I know the current version is buggy, I can live with that, if, a big IF, the consensus is the spring update will fix 99% of the issues. MFT is one of the main reasons I'd like to get the Edge.

  5. so the consensus is that the non-towing package, w/ the after market Curt hitch, and 1500lb net weight on the trailer, I should be ok going 3000KM, up and down the rocky mountains? I’m getting conflicting answers from another website, from a bunch of Canadians telling me the trans-Canada highway will kill my transmission. They’re suggesting putting everything in totes and shipping greyhound, and putting the car on a trailer and flying out there. All of that seems a lot more expensive then the trailer option.

  6. The 2k rating is conservative (Ford doing a little C Y A) you should be OK.

Just be careful going DOWN the mountains!

It would be a good idea to change the oil AND transmission fluids when you get to Vancouver.

so my bigger worry should be my brakes then the strain on the tranny and engine going uphill? I apologize if I’m asking elementary questions, but I really have no clue about this stuff. I’ll be sure to do as you recommended on the oil and tranny fluid once I arrive. I appreciate the green light on the 1500lbs. It sounds like the distance won’t really be the problem, just the last quarter up and down the mountains.
