  1. I supposedly have a set of the new wheels and they click worse than the previous. The local ford factory rep went for a ride to hear it for himself. He said he's never heard of the problem. I sent him for a ride with our sales rep and the service manager, and I gave him a copy of this thread. He heard the clicking. Still waiting to hear as well.

that is just great news :censored: ... after 3 hours of no call from my dealer - I called back... "do you want to make and appointment" NO I want to talk to somebody... "Well we have to see it".... you already have... "OK.. Do you want the service manager you call you back".... YES :banghead: sounds like a waste of my time if your "new wheels" are still clicking!

  2. I'd agree with that. For us, it happens in slow to medium cornering (5 kmh to 30 ish kmh). It also happens when the weight load shifts significantly at each wheel (driving over uneven/ heaved pavement).

Also, believe it or not, it also happens when it's parked in the driveway and turned off. Every time there is a sunny day and the sun shines directly on the wheels (keep in mind I'm at 45 deg N Lat) and I'm standing in the driveway doing something, I hear "click....click..click click.." as the sun heats up the plastic wheel covers...

    Steve,

I have also noticed the "driveway clicking" as the sun heats up the plastic covers! I hope they fix this.. I'm on my 2nd set - I'll get them replaced (again) when they get the problem fixed.

  3. Every morning I back out of my driveway and once I start to move forward I get this loud "moan" (hard to discribe) ... "moan"....."moan"... "moan".... then slowly it fades away.

I'm guessing it has something to do with the brakes.

If I hold the brakes lightly for the first 100 feet no "moan" - or at least not as loud.

Anyone else have this?? 08 Edge Lim - 20" wheels.

I thought at first it was just over night rust rubbing off but wouldn't that come off after backing up 30' out of the driveway? My driveway is on an incline so I'm using the brakes to back out.

  4. Also have an 08 Edge Limited, Vapor Silver, live in Dallas, TX, have had for 3 weeks, but no slushing noise or humming noise. My only complaint is the drivers side A/C vent does not go far enough to the right.

Drove 3 different Edges at my local dealer in Dallas, never herad a slushing noise from the gas tank.

Maybe they do not put the same amt. of insulation around the gas tank for the vehicles sold in Canada?

I have an 08 Edge Limited, Black - I've heard the same sound - not all the time - usually just backing out of my driveway (slight incline)

I have also heard the same sound from my wife's 07 Mazda CX9 - similar car.

  5. My problem has nothing to do with the brass coming through, but my Edge, 2008 with 20 tires has noise coming from the rims...sounds like baseball cards on a bicycle rim..click, click, click. My dealer said replacing the rims with the same rims does not solve the problem....the problem is the rims. I hope someone out there has a solution.

I called Ford, and they had not heard of this issue. They put in hold, called the dealership and spoke to the service department who confirmed that they did tell me the problem was the rims. Ford went on to say they did not know what they can do, as it is not on their recall list. In addition, there does not appear to be a problem for safety...but who knows? My Edge has 514 miles on it..go figure.

If any one could lend some advise I would greatly appreciate it.

My 20" Chrome Clad wheels were doing the same thing (noise and turning brass) 800 miles at the time -wheels were backordered for a couple of weeks but the dealership replaced all four wheels. The new wheels were "clicking" before a got home - I'm about 5 miles away from the dealership! Service Manager said he would call Ford - that was a week ago - no word yet.

  6. So one day after getting the wheels replaced.. they are clicking again.. this time not just turning but going straight too. I think these ones are worse than the first set! :banghead:

I stopped at the dealer on the way home from work - service manager said he would see if he could find out any more details and call me back. He said the only things that were reused were the center caps, lugs, and tires.

I asked him if Ford would be willing to downgrade (if you want to call it that) to a different wheel. I doubt that - but worth a try. Heck - I'd accept some of my $800 premium wheel upgrade back - then go out and buy aftermarkets. (that will never happen)

I'll see what the say next week... but for a 30k plus car this is not acceptable.

So far I love the rest of the car.

  7. There is a TSB for this problem. We had it a while back and the dealer fixed it. I think the TSB number is either 07-11-14 or 07-14-11.

So they replaced all four wheels yesterday... so far no clicking noise... I'll give it a few weeks - i bet it comes back. I do have to take it back - looks like they damaged one rim (maybe mounting it?) the clad part and the rim both have small dents (about the size of a flathead screwdriver). Plus this rim also has a crappy chrome job - you can see that brass color towards the hub.

Worst part about this entire deal is that I never really "loved" these rims.

Maybe it's time for some nice aftermarkets.

  8. consider yourself lucky on this point.. there are many people, some here and others on syncmyride.com, that report an issue I spoke about here in this thread and have myself where the Sync system forgets you were using USB (even after getting out just to simply get gas) and defaults back to Line In. the other thread will explain it, but to me, it is a pretty annoying bug in the Sync system I would love to have fix.

but anyway.. your trick work around seems to have worked as I had it work 3-4 more times throughout the day as long as I just stayed in Play All. I have not seen what will happen yet if I go to play something specific (like Play Artist xxxx) and then come back later to Play All.. I suspect the issue will creep back up at that time.

I don't have the factory NAV option - maybe that saves me from the Line In bug.

  9. well.. I must report.. it worked.

I only tried it 1 time, but sure enough it did correctly continue to Play All and not get stuck on the last artist I was listening to before I shut the car off. interesting. I will test it more, as this system is so finicky who knows if it was a fluke or a true 'work around' hack. time will tell...

now.. if I could just get the Sync to always recognize the USB device and stop defaulting back to Line In.. that would be a real score

glad it worked.. i have noticed that the shuffle setting must reset after the car restarts - i've had the same song replay in the morning and during my trip home from work.

What do you mean getting Sync to alway recongnize the USB device? I keep my ipod connected and each morning Sync connects and starts playing from the day before.

Only once or twice Sync got mixed up and connected to the media stream of my bluetooth phone (which i don't use)????

  10. hmmm.. so you say you set it to play all songs in the iPod and then hook it to the USB cable while it is playing and that somehow keeps you connected AND keeps the true shuffle of Play All working, but just plugging in the iPod and selecting Play All via the Sync and you get the bug I mention on restart of car? seems like if you did that, the moment Sync acquires the iPod and the Ford logo shows up on the iPod screen, anything you were doing in the iPod is now stopped as the iPod is waiting for the Sync system to tell it what to do.

Also, I would think the moment you make any other selection that you specifically want to listen to, like a genre or artist or album, that the steps you claim work for you would become null & void.. until you reset it up again like above?

    Lex,

this is how i've corrected the bug...

with car on and ipod connected (ipod is stuck on bug)

with the ipod connected to the usb port turn off the car and open the door

wait for the Ford logo go off

with ipod still on use the ipod to select shuffle

    turn back on the car

this seems to keep all play shuffle even after restart - i've only noticed that the bug comes back after the ipod was removed

i've only tried all play shuffle.

  11. I just had my front to rims replaced and I drove about a 1000km this past long weekend and by the time I got home they have started to creak again. I will give it a few days before I tell the service people about it and then see what happens. I can't wait to go through this again when I rotate the tires.

They were going to only replace my front rims too... then I asked them about the "brass" color showing thru the chrome (towards the hub) on all four rims.. they called me back and said they will replace all four. The replacements are still on backorder.

  12. No one has had any issues with phones not being compatible?

When i first got my Edge I had a Motorola V710 - would NOT work with sync... Since I was ready for a phone upgrade thru Verizon I picked up an LG EnV2 ($3.00 after discount and rebate :hyper: ) and it works with no problems.

  13. I have an Edge LTD 20" Chrome Appearance wheels. After about 1000 miles I get a loud clicking sound from the front wheel area when I turn. If the wheels are straight I don't hear it. I hear it during all left and right turns regardless of speed. They can be slight turns or sharp turns for example, when turning a corning or pulling into the driveway. The clicking frequency increases as the wheel rotation increases. It is always present during turns. I can't see anything behind the wheels that is loose or dragging. I was going to wait until my 7500 m maintenance but now it is causing people to stare at my otherwise beautiful vehicle. Anyone out there have the same problem?

I too have an 08 Edge LTD with the Premium 20" "hub caps". I have about 700 miles and also get the clicking sound from the front wheels. I also have a slight brass color on the rim towards the hub (driverside wheel). I called my dealer's service department - Monday they want to pull the wheel and have a look. I'll keep you posted.
