  1. Just wanted to say thanks, this is an amazing forum! I've been part of sooo many different forums over the years, and I was so pleasantly surprised to see how passionate Edge enthusiasts are! Lots of good information, advice, and activity.

Most of you won't care what I got since it's nothing special. My wife already has an SUV (3 row) to haul around the three young kids, so I found the need for mid-sized SUV not needed nearly as much as I would have liked. My Ford dealer contacted me, and offered to buyout the lease fully as they wanted a used but pristine Edge Sport for their lot. Couldn't really pass it up. Plus through my previous career I still have some close friends at Toyota/Lexus and was able to get a 2018 IS350 AWD F Sport (white on red leather) for an absolute steal! Not everyone's cup of tea, but back in 2008 I bought a 2008 IS350 and loved it so there is some history. I'm only doing a three year lease, so it hopefully aligns with the new major model change for the IS.

ANNNNYWAYS, thanks again. Everyone has been very helpful and I wish the forum continued great success!

  2. Yea yea... some of us prefer the straight lines! I personally don't have the "eggs" to find out how quick I can roll into a ditch! I found out about 3 weeks after installing the lowering springs that this thing will oversteer. had to squeeze a cheek so i didn't poop my pants, and from that day forward, I now much prefer the straights!

Haha I know the feeling. I traded in a Subaru BRZ and I tried taking a roundabout at about 30mph and thought I was going to tip over. Almost had to change my shorts as well.
  3.

Really? I cross shopped the Edge Sport with the SQ5, XC90 T6, Lexus RC350 F Sport and MB AMG CLA45. All of which were similarly priced, with the exception of the SQ5. The CLA45 was obviously much too small and I found that most MB buyers simply overpay for the brand name and buying/service experience. I would assume that the Edge ST will have a price tag around 55-58k, so it certainly should compete against the SQ5, XC90 T8, Jaguar F-Pace and Afla Stelvio at their base trim levels.

Ford definitely took a few customers from the aforementioned market segments by offering similar performance with a lesser price tag. Whether or not Ford intentionally targeted that market demographic I don't know, but it sure seems like the ST is targeted to compete against those brands.

Then you have to compare a base Edge Sport vs any of those you listed (and it will still be quite bit lower in price). If you want a similarly equipped (to say the 401A) package, those luxury models are $10-20k higher. Again my point wasn't that nobody will cross-shop against the Edge Sport, but remember this is a an enthusiast forum who generally know a lot about cars. The general public, especially someone who is in the market for a luxury vehicle will not even know (or care) that there is a "fast" Ford Edge that could compete on paper and has a lot of content.

There is a very similar issue with a more recent vehicle. The Kia Stinger GT...all reviews have said it's amazing and can compete with the luxury brands but is priced much more competitively. Even Kia is targeting it against the Audi A7 sportback and the BWM 440i Grand Coupe. There will be a VERY small group that will see the value proposition but mostly it will be mid-income buyers that are going to look to the Stinger as a bargain-luxury GT. The Kia used car lots are not going to be filled with BMW's and Audi's because everyone is jumping ship. It is "just a Kia" to way to many people still. JD Power rankings or not.

  4. ST-Suspension Tuning division.

I think the primary focus of the Edge ST is handling, since it did not gain much of a horsepower or torque boost.

The current Edge Sport handles much better than it's japanese and american competitors, but I think the market segment for the ST is Audi SQ5, Jaguar F-Pace, BMW X5, Volvo XC60 R and Alfa Romeo Stelvio customers. These euro SUV's are quite compentant in handling and sit in the same price bracket as the Edge Sport.

I'm really interested in comparing the Edge ST once my lease is up. I think Ford should setup some sort track day for current Edge Sport owners, since dealers won't allow their cars to be test driven.

The Edge Sport is quite a bit cheaper than those that you listed. Especially when you start adding any options to those European models, the pricing is a huge difference. And let's be honest, there's not many buyers who are in the market for a luxury sporty SUV, that are going to cross shop it against the Edge Sport.

  5. BAMR I can understand, it's a giant piece of glass. But rear window? What the heck is Ford doing with them that would cause this failure? Was it a Ford design or supplier QC at fault?

I would say it's a design problem. If it were a supplier QC issue, they probably would have issued a recall or TSB already (since they can charge back the entire scrap and rework cost to the supplier). Wouldn't be the first time I've seen that in the automotive industry :)

  6. So I've been talking with some dealers on getting in to another lease for a comparable car. The prices are just ridiculous. I got one quote for $780/mth LOL. I have always had a thing for Grand Cherokees so I went in and test drove one. Talked to a sales guy who wasn't pushy at all and made some decent offers for a lease. More within acceptable pricing IMO. Looks like I'll make a switch for a few years.

Buying the Edge sounded nice. I love the car. But when I started factoring in upcoming costs (Tires, hitch, etc) it just doesn't seem like the right move for me.

So for now the plan is to jump in a Grand Cherokee Limited (Sterling).

Good choice! Nice to get into the current (and last) Grand Cherokee that's still built on the Mercedes ML chassis.

  7. Agree with akirby, it really depends on the road. I do notice it more now that my winter tires are on (tire is more narrow and a softer compound). It feels so at ease once I get the OEM 21" Pirelli's back on.

Barvic, tracking and tramlining are different but exibit the same characteristics (I learned this the hard way spending tons of money on my Subaru BRZ to correct what I thought was it not tracking straight). Floaty feeling and following of the "waves" of the road are a dead give away that it's tramlining...especially when your vehicle seems to drive straight on smaller, flatter roads.

  8. Hes pissed off about the lack of navigation map updates. I never buy them so it doesnt bother me but it is silly they havent even offered any paid updates the last 2.5+ years.

I got that, but there is no confirmation that this mid-cycle refresh won't have updated maps. It just seemed odd to immediately start complaining about map updates on a model that hasn't even been released. Hence the "huh" lol
  9. I ran an update to my Sync3 in my garage last night connected to my home Wi-Fi but didn't see any difference. The new update was downloaded and after that was done and with Apple Carplay accessed through my iPhone, Waze didn't project to the the screen in my 17 Edge Sport.

Is the update available now or is it something coming soon?

I doubt the update you got was the newest version that allows for Waze. It also doesn't have anything to do with Apple Carplay. Presumably when you plug your phone in and it boots to CarPlay, you will just exit it and go to the main Sync screen where you can then connect to Waze (assuming you have it installed on your phone).
