I am sure the turbo is perfectly fine, it’s the wastegate on these borg Warner turbos which fail. Unfortunately, the wastegates are not serviceable and the entire turbo assembly has to be replaced. It can be done at home, it’s not that difficult. You need to know the build date of your car to ensure you get the correct turbo which fits to your catalytic converter. I used a Stigan turbo and haven’t had any issues.

I’m assuming you’ve already replaced it, but it’s super easy and the pump is extremely cheap. The 2.0l water pump is driven by the serpentine belt, unlike the 3.5 which has a timing chain driven water pump.
