  1. That's my wife's answer to any problem, turn it off and let it reboot. The funny thing is that's she's right often. I thank everyone for the suggestions. We'll see what happens.
  2. The dealer found nothing, of course. I thought about the parking brake so I tried moving with it engaged. Immediately the warning lights came on. That still doesn't mean that the brake wasn't engaged even though the brake pedal had relesaed. Sounds unlikely, but still the best suggestion so far. Thank you.
  3. Excellent, and thank you. I dropped off the car at the dealer today. I'm not optimistic.
  4. My '08 AWD has about 42k miles. Recently I pulled into the driveway after a freeway run of about 40 minutes @ 75MPH. The temperature was in the 60's. Thirty minutes later, I started the car and backed up. The car felt like the brakes were still on (they weren't). The engine was straining, but the car wasn't moving easily. Once in the street, I put it into drive with the same results, engine working hard but not moving very fast. I went slowly around the block with no change and no shifts occurring. There were also no warning lights showing a problem. Back in front of the house, I shifted into reverse and was treated to a loud bang (or wham). I put it back into drive and parked it for about 15 minutes. Before I shut it off, I checked the fluid, it was full, clean and smelled normal. After 15 minutes, I started the car. It was fine and has been so for the last 3 days. Any ideas?
  5. I had a strange problem a couple nights ago. I had driven 30 miles @ 70MPH in 60F weather and parked the car. About 30 minutes later I came out and when I backed out of the driveway, the car seemed like it had the brakes on. In the street I put it into drive, the same situation, the engine was straining but the car not moving very fast. I went around the block (slowly) with no change and the car didn't shift either. I stopped, and when I shifted into reverse, the was a bang or clunk, quite noticeable. I pulled into the driveway, with the engine still straining. The transmission fluid was clear and full. I turned off the car for about 10 minutes, started it again, and the problem was gone and has not returned for 4 days. The car has 43k miles.
  6. My 2008 Edge was tapped in the right corner of the rear bumper in a parking lot. Now the rear sensor display says the check the sensor/system (or something like that) and doesn't work. I suspect the right rear sensor is damaged, but I see no way to access it from the inside of the bumper without removing the bumper. How do you get the sensor out to check or replace it?
