  1. OK, time for another good report on Robin Ford.

My wife's Edge started "bucking" or hunting for the right gear on upgrades and any other shift points. It would come and go. Then she started getting the "wrench" idiot light come in, and car wouldn't go more than 5-10 mph. But it would go away after a restart.

I don't have the time or knowledge to chase intermittent problems with the tranny, so finally took it in to get checked out,.

And yea, trouble code P0717, it's my turn for the TSS sensor to go bad.

Rob at Robin explained everything to me, there's no damage to the tranny... yet.

Replaced the TSS & OSS and flushed and replaced the trans fluid. Approx $780.

Lousy timing for an $800 bill to hit the family budget, but i appreciate the explanation of what was wrong, recommended action, and potential consequences if I kept driving it without fixing.

    It's a 2007 Edge SEL-Plus, FWD with about 78,000 on the clock.

I already had the water pump done, now the TSS/OSS. Hopefully no more surprises and I can go back to loving my car.

  2. I went to Robin Ford on the recommendation of a smaller shop that was working on my Explorer.

They found the issue and repaired it without just throwing parts at it.

Next brought in my wife's Edge, and again, they properly diagnosed the issue and made the repairs.

I try to do routine maintenance myself, but sometimes need to go to the pros for bigger issues.

I literally drive past a bigger Ford dealer to get to Robin Ford from where i live.

I've had less than stellar experiences at the other dealer, so was pleasantly surprised by a good experience.

I'll drive past them again to get to Robin Ford.

  3. 2007 Edge, FWD, <76000 miles,

really good news, turned out to be a bad vacuum hose connection near the intake manifold. (can't believe i missed it)

my second very good experience with Robin Ford in Glenolden, PA

First on my Explorer, now on the Edge too!

  4. I dropped off my Edge at the dealer this morning. It bucks or shudders when downshifting.

Accelerates ok, upshift is ok, drives ok at low speeds, but when trying to maintain speed on an upgrade, e.g. 40mph or 65mph, it shudders or bucks when trying to downshift.

Tach looks steady or maybe doesn't respond fast enough to show fluctuation.

Is this the TSS/OSS issue or is something else going on?

  5. I didn't mean to commandeer this thread, sorry about that, but wanted to close the loop. Our car had P1299 code, cylinder head overheat failsafe. The engine stalled right after it threw the code and my wife was smart enough to not try restarting it right away. The temp gauge was pegged and the overflow bottle empty, so We let it cool off, then added coolant before driving it. I got it home but couldn't locate where the leak was coming from. That's when i took it to the dealer. $1440 for the pump replacement, and seems to be running fine now. I'm guessing the P1299 saved the engine.

  6. Oil change, if there's any doubt.

Thanks, oil change is part of the repair work quoted by the dealer, and i'd have asked for it if they weren't doing it. May switch to a high mileage oil or a full synthetic. i want to treat any damage that may have occurred and minimize any further damage.

And a coolant change within 500 miles. Coolant and degas bottle should look clean & clear with no visible contamination.

good idea, i'll be watching it like a hawk now.

  7. ConestogaActual, how many miles does your Edge have on it?

Freebird: only about 71K miles in 10 years. Its my wife's daily driver. We live in Philly area, but its been to Canada and Orlando and lots of places in between. She only works about 2 miles from home so doesn't put many miles on it.

    It will make it. ;)

Macbwt: Just watched your video on Waterpump/P0016, Awesome! Thank you! Very informative!

I'm getting the pump replaced at a local dealer. They didn't report any water in the oil, but... Any suggestions on oil additives/treatments, just in case there was contamination?

Repair pal shows the cost to replace a water pump on a 2007 Edge is $1200 to $1535.

Enigma: The dealer did come down some, to approx $1500.

  9. Thanks. It only has little over 71K miles, i'm pretty good about routine maintenance but this was a big surprise. The tech didn't see any water in the oil so i'm going ahead with the pump replacement, hoping for the best. Its been such a great car for 10 years, some minor annoyances, but nothing big. i really hope i'm not throwing money down the drain.

  10. Hi, i'm new to the Edge forum, also belong to the Explorer forum. My 2007 Edge SEL FWD is my wife's daily driver, was her birthday present that year. We both love the car, its been great, but today I got kind of a shock. It needs a water pump. I'm hoping the engine isn't toast from coolant leaking into the oil. Hoping for the best.

Have always been a Ford guy, 71 LTD, 87 Mustang LX 5.0, 07 Explorer EB, 07 Edge SEL, 10 Explorer EB, 12 F150 FX4 ecoboost

  11. don't walk away, run, run like the wind! I loved my 2007 Edge, bought new, until today. Took it to the dealer for a leak just like you described. They said i need a water pump, ok says I, ballpark how much? $1800. assuming the antifreeze that leaked into my oil pan hasn't killed the engine. no warning, no idiot lights, nothing. Water pump is internal, driven by the timing chain, whole front of the engine has to come off to get to it, 12 + hour job.
