  1. I replaced rear pads & rotors on my '07 edge this afternoon and taught my youngest son how to do the brake job. First step for him was to watch the MACT youtube clips so he'd know what he was getting into. Luckily mine doesn't have the dampener to break off, and has press in pistons instead of screw in. But the videos gave him a good idea of what we had to do. Thanks Bill T!
  2. OK, time for another good report on Robin Ford. My wife's Edge started "bucking" or hunting for the right gear on upgrades and any other shift points. It would come and go. Then she started getting the "wrench" idiot light come in, and car wouldn't go more than 5-10 mph. But it would go away after a restart. I don't have the time or knowledge to chase intermittent problems with the tranny, so finally took it in to get checked out,. And yea, trouble code P0717, it's my turn for the TSS sensor to go bad. Rob at Robin explained everything to me, there's no damage to the tranny... yet. Replaced the TSS & OSS and flushed and replaced the trans fluid. Approx $780. Lousy timing for an $800 bill to hit the family budget, but i appreciate the explanation of what was wrong, recommended action, and potential consequences if I kept driving it without fixing. It's a 2007 Edge SEL-Plus, FWD with about 78,000 on the clock. I already had the water pump done, now the TSS/OSS. Hopefully no more surprises and I can go back to loving my car.
  3. I use Chrome to surf this forum and the explorer forum, never had an issue. akirby, love the cartoon! i'm going to plagiarize from you and use it at work!
  4. I went to Robin Ford on the recommendation of a smaller shop that was working on my Explorer. They found the issue and repaired it without just throwing parts at it. Next brought in my wife's Edge, and again, they properly diagnosed the issue and made the repairs. I try to do routine maintenance myself, but sometimes need to go to the pros for bigger issues. I literally drive past a bigger Ford dealer to get to Robin Ford from where i live. I've had less than stellar experiences at the other dealer, so was pleasantly surprised by a good experience. I'll drive past them again to get to Robin Ford.
  5. 2007 Edge, FWD, <76000 miles, really good news, turned out to be a bad vacuum hose connection near the intake manifold. (can't believe i missed it) my second very good experience with Robin Ford in Glenolden, PA First on my Explorer, now on the Edge too!
  6. I dropped off my Edge at the dealer this morning. It bucks or shudders when downshifting. Accelerates ok, upshift is ok, drives ok at low speeds, but when trying to maintain speed on an upgrade, e.g. 40mph or 65mph, it shudders or bucks when trying to downshift. Tach looks steady or maybe doesn't respond fast enough to show fluctuation. Is this the TSS/OSS issue or is something else going on?
  7. i ran it through the car wash, didn't feel like pulling the hose out of the garage and hooking it up...then vacuumed the inside, polished all the glass, checked all the fluids, and used Back to Black on all the faded gray cladding on the sides and on the bumpers, wow that stuff made a huge difference. Love riding in a clean car!
  8. Today i used Mothers Back to Black on the plastic cladding on the lower door edges and rocker panels and the lower panels of the front and rear bumpers and some other spots. Wow what a difference!
  9. I didn't mean to commandeer this thread, sorry about that, but wanted to close the loop. Our car had P1299 code, cylinder head overheat failsafe. The engine stalled right after it threw the code and my wife was smart enough to not try restarting it right away. The temp gauge was pegged and the overflow bottle empty, so We let it cool off, then added coolant before driving it. I got it home but couldn't locate where the leak was coming from. That's when i took it to the dealer. $1440 for the pump replacement, and seems to be running fine now. I'm guessing the P1299 saved the engine.
  10. My first car was a '68 Impala sedan with the 327 and a 4bbl carb. Loved that car. I put cragar SS wheels on it and kept the F78/14 tires on the front but upsized to G60/15's on the back. Drove it for two years of high school and two years of college til it blew up. Had a lot of "firsts" in that car if you know what i mean.
  11. Thanks, oil change is part of the repair work quoted by the dealer, and i'd have asked for it if they weren't doing it. May switch to a high mileage oil or a full synthetic. i want to treat any damage that may have occurred and minimize any further damage. good idea, i'll be watching it like a hawk now.
  12. Thanks for the video! I have a much better understanding of what's happening to my car.
  13. Freebird: only about 71K miles in 10 years. Its my wife's daily driver. We live in Philly area, but its been to Canada and Orlando and lots of places in between. She only works about 2 miles from home so doesn't put many miles on it. Macbwt: Just watched your video on Waterpump/P0016, Awesome! Thank you! Very informative! I'm getting the pump replaced at a local dealer. They didn't report any water in the oil, but... Any suggestions on oil additives/treatments, just in case there was contamination? Enigma: The dealer did come down some, to approx $1500.

  15. It's been such a great car for 10 years, this was really disappointing. The tech didn't see water in the oil, so i'm going ahead with the pump replacement, hope its not money down the drain.
