  1. OK, I still have 6P. I'm in a growing county in FL and I'm finding half the roads aren't coming up on my map. Starting to get frustrating since I'm new to the area and have become highly dependent on the DVD Nav. Before I drop bank on the 7P DVD, is the 8P DVD due out soon?

8P disc is out has anyone got it yet ? :hyper:

  2. that's pretty lame.. seek help here, find it elsewhere, then won't let anyone in on it here, but flaunt it to the others.. why even post up you got it squared away if you do not plan to share it? what's the big secret for God's sake? :redcard:

Sorry guys I did mean to come off that way because of where I work there are things I cann't talk about an things I see done so thats why I wuz able to get it done. What I should have said is that it is possible to have done but ford has it set up in away that dealer donn't have access to.The rewiring can be done on your own.but if ford see it can void elec' warranty.

    Sorry again

  3. Mangnuson-Moss Act (1975)

Ford cannot "void" a warranty because a NAV unit was installed . . . .

. . . unless the installation practice &/or the unit itself is PROVEN to have cause the failure for which the warranty claim is filed.

I'd like to have given it a try (your suggestion for re-wiring) but I already returned the unit to the seller and to me it's just not worth it just to have a kewl looking touch screen in the center of the dash. Besides, the NAV function itself is pale in comparison to dedicated NAV manufacturers (Garmin, etc.) I have factory HK NAV on my Ultra Classic and I have a Garmin Zumi installed on the handlebars. . . .

I will say this Nav will work an Sync too an not hard to have done some reprograming an jumper wires.Dealer can not do this because of warranty reasons once you touch or alter factory wiring you have voided your electrical warranty there is different wiring that goes in for a nav factory unit.I had my unit done an everything works including sync. Not going to say how so done ask.

  4. Hi Night_Owl. :D Well, you can try. Do you have anything in writing where the Dealer reps state that it would/could be installed in your vehicle with full functionality? If you do, you are in better shape than if you do not.

If you do not, all you can go to the Dealership and speak to the Sales Manager or General Manager about what you were told by the Salesperson (do not even bother speaking to the Salesperson). Express your dissatisfaction with the fact that it is not possible for them to do what they promised (and have it work exactly like the Factory Installed system).

    Keep us updated.

    Good luck. :beerchug:

I talk to a tech at the plant today an he said that it can be done.I'm stuck too by friday he is going to flash my set up at work an he said everything should work.If he cann't do it then I know there is no chance this is his job !!

  5. Pardon my ignorance but I'm not feeling confident with this. I opened the storage door and slipped a butter knife under the grey plastic cover that extends the length of the console starting at the storage door end. I felt nothing but resistance and saw bending plastic. Should I be gently prying the entire edge all the way around? Without the benefit of drawings, I'd like more detail. Thanks.

LOL just stick your 2 fingers in the little space an pull back like a banana I'll pop right off.

  6. I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say? The Pioneer is the 2008 system. The SYNC in your 2009 is likely set up to work with the 2009 Xanavi system, so it probably won't work with the Pioneer, whether the dealer installs it or someone else and it definitely will not work with the Travel Link.

There are two 2009 Xanavi systems, one with an 8in screen used in the Flex, MKS and a few others, and the smaller 6.5in that is used in the Edge. Are you saying the 6.5in Xanavi will not fit in your 2009 Edge? I find that hard to believe since it was made specifically to go in vehicles that weren't changing the interior in 2009.

The fit is the same only differents is that 09 deck is a sony not pioneer an sirius is built in not a seperate module. There may be a wiring conflict because if you had a cd player with sirius you would have a module in the trunk an you don't need that. The correct Antenna is made to do both approx 190cdn.So if it is a pioneer in your 09 its totally wrong...... Does your steering wheel controls work with it ?

  7. Here you go... here is the APIM Sync box with the "User Device" USB2 and USB (stock) ports labeled. located in center console at the back at floor level accessed from passenger seat by panel removal. I got a 6 ft USB Mini B cable and that is perfect length to run cable down drivers side of center console and up into the glove box hidden under center console trim. Mini B fit snug and perfect. I will then add a F2F adaptor at other end so I can use my stock iPod USB cable and have a second USB2 "User Device" for a passenger if they bring an iPod along. $7 mod in cables/adaptors. Plan to come up with some trick way to bring it into the glove box, maybe a flush mount at the bottom or side of the glove box like I did my custom glove box LED light and kind of like what is already in our center console.

Glad it works saw the module on a scrape center console a work but didn't notice the port, going to add it in beside cig' lighter on dash!!

  8. I am trying to do the same thing. When I contacted Ford this is the response I got:

"Thank you for your inquiry regarding your vehicle service issue. SYNC and navigation has to be installed at the factory for both to work together, this is due to special wiring that has to be done to the vehicle, the dealers do not have the necessary tools to do this at the dealership. "

My dealer is telling me the smae thing. I then replied with a second email from which I have heard nothing. I'll keep you posted. I am keeping hope that someone has a solution.

Any update yet I just got the Nav deck also an when I plug it in I have no steer control an no Sub an GPS do you need another anntena for GPS? Going to dealer on weekend to talk to them about it.

  9. Found out that there is a confirmed 2nd USB port on the 2009 Flex, you just need to plug a cable into it and then your device.. so anyone heard/read/found elsewhere where this hidden port is on the Edge?

Or, does anyone know where the APIM (accessory protocol interface module) box is located? as I believe that is where the 2nd port is located. I think it is in the center console someplace and only yon cars with Sync.

I know that the Sync module is on the back of the center concole ( access from back set) the cover just snaps on just pull from the bottom up.

  10. You mean by attempting to fix the problem numerous times? I don't see any problem here with Ford's efforts - they're attempting to fix the problem including making new parts. I don't hear them turning anyone down or trying to deny the problem or say that it isn't a warranty issue. And they're paying for multiple warranty repairs on some vehicles.

The only bad thing they've done is not fix the problem permanently. I think part of the problem is that the dealer's aren't installing the seals and new PTUs correctly. Outside of that it's either a supplier issue (still Ford's responsibility), a shortage of ford engineering resources or just a really hard problem to solve - or all 3.

I agree that it's a problem that never should have happened and it should have been fixed months ago. But I don't think Ford is treating it's customers badly (yet at least).

I agree ford knows of the problem an they are trying to fix it an have taken step to correct it, some might say not the best ones but they are try.As an CAW member I can only work with what I'm given to work with engineer must set higher standard for quality on part an out sourcing !!!

  11. I've read a couple posting that state the center console cover around the shifter "just snaps off." That's great but I haven't been able to locate any details, like which end do you start, are there clips that could snap off, etc. I appreciate it someone would point to or provide this information. Thanks in advance.

    TL

Start from where the console storage opens an just pull up lightly they just snap in that it.

  12. Dymes any comment on the PTU Problems Ford is having.

I thought since you work at the plant you can give me the scope.

I will be visiting Oakville in May. Any change I can get a visit of the Plant?

    Gary Smith

    SMOKIN EDGE

I work on the line in trim area mainly dash install an some wiring stuff.I have the same problem with my edge dealer waiting for parts.I've already changed my drive shaft an hangers (out sourcing bad parts) I only had 11000km on my Edge.I read more here than they tell us at the plant but you see alot too.My friend in repair department gave me the heads up to watch for these problems an he was right ..........

  13. funny you mention this as I was about to ask jtalberts if he has the black antenna on his spoiler?

I wondered if the factory put them all in place, and then for those that ordered sirius like I did when I ordered my car or for those with it coming off the line, they finish off and put in the module & wired it up.

But like you say.. if he does not have that antenna on the spoiler, then no wiring down, then likely have to get after market kit which you can read about here where dealer installs for like $450, or at like TSS Radio or a dash mount even

I work at the oakville assembly plant where the edges are built, spoiler are pre ordered an pre wired according to orders, everything is done on the line.Dash comes done to us we just plug them in an bolt them down.

  14. so, your still running or splicing wires to a degree, even dealing with a harness - which is like kryptonite to some people. with the Sirius, yes, you can read around here about adding Sirius after the fact to your stock head unit. Some threads on it, where to find the mount location (like Dymes points out), etc.. But it still requires dealing with antenna and head unit hookup. IIRC, you cant just plug in the Sirius box in the back and POW.. Sirius. I think it an easy install, but to some... maybe not. You still have antenna and head-unit interface to do. and with the remote start, again, several threads on it about how it can be done, but again, you still have a harness and wires to run. it is not just as simple as plug in a remote start box and POW.. remote start.

so, as said above, both of these are totally attainable. it is just a matter of (1) how much effort your willing to put in and (2) how plug and play do you really expect/want it to be.

If the wiring is in the trunk it behind the deck as far as antenna if the bubble is on your spoiler your antenna is there tooo....If these thing aren't present in car kit is your best bet.
