  1. Hello guys and gals: I have a 2007 Ford Edge. I think I've seen this being discussed in some places...but thought I would re-introduce the topic as it is a bit perplexing and potentially dangerous. My tail light bulbs and bulb sockets are showing a lot of evidence of getting hot and melting. Ford of course is NOT fessing up and I have read similar experiences from others elsewhere. I went to the dealer yesterday and they were dismissive as I was expecting. When I brought up the subject of reading about numerous instances on the internet he responded "You can find evidence of ANYTHING on the interenet if you look hard enough". So, to hell with the Ford dealer - I will remember this when I replace this car. I am on my own. So, on to the fix - I trust this forum more than the Ford dealer at this point. I am going to replace the socket and the bulb. The socket will have to remain OEM. But the bulb...obvioiusly needs to be an LED.. I have seen where others have replaced these bulbs (Sylvania 4157 is what the car came with) with LEDs. Now...I am unsure as to the replacement I should be looking for. 1. Should I be looking to replace a 4157 or a 3157? (I've seen both being discussed) 2. Should I be looking for a red or white light? (I have seen both discussed) 3. And what about the flashing feature? Do I need to take this into consideration? I have seen this discussed insofar as having to mate the correct flasher to the LED. Seems odd because I thouight the bulb was a dumb part and only takes the signal given it. Hopefully someone can shed light on this for me (pun intended). Also - it seems odd that there does not seem to be a dedicated fuse for the tail lights...must be shared on a different circuit. At least that's the way it seems to be according to my owner's manual. AND...if anyone can be so kind as to suggest a source and P/N for the replacement bulb I would be additionally grateful as there seems to be many POTENTIAL types and sources - hard to know which may have given others trouble/success. Thanks all for your help...last time I was on this forum with an issue it was very, very helpful!!
  2. Well, guess what..I was finally able put it on jacks and crawl around under there....I was looking for something kind of forward on the car...or mid-station.....because that is where the noise was coming from....I didn't find anything. I wiggled the exhaust system and tapped on heat shields...nothing.....then I happened to look aft and saw something hanging from the near the tail pipe....it was a busted band clamp that held a heat shield onto the pipe. It had snapped off and was just hanging there. One band clamp later and looks like situation solved! Thanks for your time! I was afraid of something really major...but this time the car gods were looking out for me! Thanks all for your time taken to reply and try to help! Darren
  3. Havent had a chance to crawl under and or put it on jacks...but thanks all for the replies!! Ill follow up on your suggestions and let you all know. But even though sound travel is deceptive in cases like this in terms of easily finding the source ...I don't think its coming from the front drive mechanisms. On the other hand the weird part is that it happens while the car is moving.
  4. Hello Ford Edge Owners.... First, I am more or less new to the forum and am finding this column to be the most active....if I need to post this elsewhere please let me know. But I have an '07 Edge that up until now has been more or less flawless. However, within the past two days I have noticed a rattle sound coming from somewhere under the car, approximately on the passenger side, sounds like near the front right wheel though I am not sure. Could be closer to the vicinity of the engine but definitively coming from somewhere under the car. I hear the sound upon acceleration, with the car moving, and its not consistent. If you were to put some bb's in a tin can and rapidly shake it, that is what it sounds like. Or, another way to describe it...if there were a very hard steel heat shield that was rapidly vibrating and impacting an adjacent structure. I've read on other sites on the 'net where other Ford models have had issues like this, and some folks claim it could be faulty ignition timing....or perhaps a catalytic converter that's been destroyed. However, I only hear the noise when the car is moving and upon acceleration. Any suggestions or diagnosis help would be appreciated. It has 76,XXX miles on it.
  5. Thank you - I did so this weekend and the problem seemed to clear up. Very strange since the sound seemed to come from the door post rather than the door latch - the sound must have traveled up the to the door post somehow. Anyway, thanks again!
  6. I have an annoying sound coming from the area of my door post - doesn't sound like its coming from the door itself but rather from the area of the door post. I hear it when I hit the brakes, or when I accelerate, or go over a bump. A creaking sound - something like metal surfaces or plastic surfaces in close contact sliding relative to one another. The dealer seemed to think it may be a bad weld in the body under the door frame trim - all of that would have to be removed. Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions?
  7. Has anyone found and installed a performance chip on his/her Edge? I have looked on the internet and not found many choices.
