  1. I was told the factory hitch was integral to the bumper and couldn't be removed. I was rear-ended this winter and the part was damaged. I asked not to reinstall the hitch but they told me they had to. Disappointing. But maybe the receiver could be cut back?

I had a Class III U-Haul hitch installed and it fits perfectly without having to remove the factory Class II hitch. That might be an option? Works for us.

  2. I believe Class II vs Class II is weight distribution. I have the factory Class II and I had the Class III installed to tow our RV which has similar weight (19', 2650 lbs dry). WD is required if you are going to tow that trailer. The weight of that trailer will cause the front wheels to be too light on the road and will reduce maneuverability considerably. the factory hitch can probably hold your trailer but it doesn't have the WD characteristics of the Class III and you will definitely notice it. I assume you have weight distribution/ torsion bars with this trailer? then you need a Class III hitch. it's no longer a question of exceeding the limit of the factory hitch, but a question of drivability and safety. I posted a pic of my RV attached to my Edge here

No worries in the late reply I think my edge can tow up to 2000 lbs because it didn't come with the factory towing package but I am unsure. But the hubby and I went out and test drove an explorer and an F150 and I think we might be leaning towards trading in my edge for an F150 FX4 crewcab fully loaded in sterling grey metallic. Needless to say as soon as we stepped back into the truck the hubby knew he wanted it he didn't even consider the explorer lol although the explorer is very nice. We figured with 3 kids now and our dog and all of our stuff it might just be better to upgrade to something bigger that we know can handle the towing capacity with no issues. I love my edge to pieces and I know i'll be a shedding a tear if I trade her in :( but know the FX4 will be a good family hauler with more space and will be ready to work when the time comes for a new camper.

at 3 times the towing capacity, the FX4 will provide way more options as far as trailers are concerned. good luck.

  4. Abnormal is your edge equipped with the factory towing package?

We're looking at buying a pop-up tent trailer to go camping. But my edge (2011 edge 3.5 V6) we purchased it without the factory tow package, didn't even give 1 thought about it at the time when we bought our 2011 two years ago unfortunately. We have started to look into installing an aftermarket trailer hitch and have already found that we should stick to a trailer no longer than 8ft and perferably have the dry weight stay under 1200 lbs, we have found some trailers for sale online that weigh less than this. The last thing I would want to do is ruin my transmission and or other parts towing a small tent trailer. Does anyone know of a good repututable aftermarket trailer hitch that is a good fit? sorry if it's been asked before. Do you think my edge could pull a small tent trailer and five passengers or would I be over taxing it? (these are the times when I miss our old F150 FX4 crewcab  ).

hey Edge9998. I apologize for the tardiness in my reply, I have to login here on a more regular basis. :( I assume my Edge has the factory towing pkg because it has the factory hitch. the factory hitch is definitely good for a tent trailer and I used it to tow my boat. I had to upgrade to a class III from U-Haul 3 years ago for our camping trailer. BTW, U-Haul has nice hitches at good prices. I have a weight distribution hitch and we tow our ~2700 lbs trailer just fine. I assume your towing capacity is 3500 lbs as well? without seeing the trailer, I would assume yes, you can tow a small tent trailer with 5 passengers easily.

  5. hello

I have a 2007 Edge with factory audio (6 CD changer). I've owned this truck for several years now and as far as I know, Bluetooth is not enabled on this radio BUT when I look at my phone, it detects it as Bluetooth enabled. Anomaly?

I haven't been able to make the connection but I'm curious to see if anyone else has seen this or been able to make the connection? Would be nice if it worked. B)

(I use a Windows Phone 8 if that matters)

    thanks

    Norm (Canada)

  6. I've towed a 20' Larson (~2700 lbs dry) on a tandem axle trailer with electric brakes without any issues. (2007 AWD Edge) it actually towed really well. the Edge pulled the boat out of the water every time without spinning the tires once. Of course I used the low gear setting to pull it out of the water and disabled the O/D while on the highway. The towing experience was excellent. No issues braking.

We also tow a 17' hybrid trailer (~2700 lbs dry) for camping and it tows very nicely.

  7. Thanks for the info,

I was having the same issues as well,

the rubber plug does do something, you have on the top the brake adjuster

still with the adjust back tight you cannot get the rotor off.

First one took a little over an hour, second one took 10 minutes to get off.

I have never seen an emergency brake pad like this before? I don't know if I like it or not.

I did the same thing as loosen the brake tension first ,then collapsed the adjuster in the drum.

What I did was put all the lugs back on and had a bar that used to spin the rotor around as I was pulling out

this way it was knocking off the rust that got built up on the lip. once I know I had enough play I was able to pull on each side

of the rotor. small trick is to put the opening where the rubber plug was on the bottom and I used a wooden dowel to push out the

shoe. just make sure the keep an eye on that spring.

    Steve

Shanker has it right; the rubber plug gives access to the parking brake adjustment and it needs to be loosened to allow the rotor to release. The plug needs to be aligned to approx. 11 o'clock to see the adjuster. Once I figured it out, the rotors came off relatively easy. Wish I had researched here before my first attempt at this job. Would have been much simpler. I have not seen brakes like this before and they are the most difficult brakes I have ever removed.

  8. '07 Edge

    only 35,00 KM (22,000 M)

front pads needed to be changed so i installed new ones. they were in bad shape. the slight steering wheel wobble has not gone away completely. I was hoping it would. I need rotors it seems.

Anyone else have to change the pads and rotors so early on? sounds premature to me.

  9. My used (but new to me) '07 Edge was originally intended for the American market but was recently brought into Canada probably as part of a fleet sale. The large numbers on the speedometer are MPH rather than KM/H.

I'm used to driving at 100 km/h, not 60 MPH. This may seem trivial but does anyone know if it is difficult to change the faceplates?

Unless it's rather simple and inexpensive, they'll stay as they are.

    Thanks

  10. I was wondering if it bothers anyone that the only way to open up the hatchback on the Edge is from the hatchback itself? I'm going to have a remote starter installed on mine soon, is there anyway they can give me a keychain button to open the hatch as well?

Love my Edge, just surprised they didn't put a second way to open up the hatch, at least from the dash or something.

well it bothers me. those of us w/o power liftgate, there should be a "unlock liftgate" button somewhere near the driver. does anyone know if someone sells an aftermarket power liftgate?
