  1. (This really doesn't answer your question....)

On our 2005 Murano, I installed Weathertech in-channel vent shades, and noticed the wind noise definitely increased as a result.

I won't be installing them on our new Edge for this reason.

Too bad, the Weathertech vent shades work great on my SEL+. Your previous experience may have been a function of Murano aerodynamics.

  2. I'm with you Edgy....I see the reflections, somewhat, but not enough to bother me. Edgy and I both have the charcoal interior and were built around the same date (end of April). It really is not an issue for me either. :yup:

I believe it is only a big issue with those of us who have Camel or Light Stone interiors, in that the image of the light colored dash is reflected onto the windshield. It is distracting to some, others seem to cope. The use of polarized sunglasses cuts the image. The fix would probably be to have the upper dash painted the "taupe" color that accompanies the Camel/Lt. Stone interiors. I wear sunglasses (bronze color/polarized) whenever I drive during the daylight hours...it slows the development of cataracts, so the image doesn't bother me. It really doesn't bother me without the glasses, you just look through it...depth of field and all that.

Maybe Ford missed this item, it's neither here nor there. I'm sure it will be fixed in the future, constant whining about it won't change the current situation. It's fixable...yes, at your cost probably. If that's not acceptable to someone, please sell the car, as it is obviously a distraction and we all have enough distractions while driving.

  3. I have a dash kit on order (should be hear in the next day or so). It will change the silvery parts to an American Walnut color.

Folks, I don't think it is the "metal" trim that is the issue. I have the light stone interior and there is a reflection of the entire top of the dash. I do not find it distracting or opaque in any way, and if you are protecting your eyes properly during the day a pair of polarized sunglasses make it go away. It is a matter that could have been addressed by a darker top on the dash with the lt. stone or camel interiors. Ford chose not to do it, perhaps for "thermal gain reasons", or they didn't identify it as a problem. In either case, it is what the individual sees as a problem and to what degree, when all is said and done.

A good custom shop can remove the top section of the dash and color it the dark grey using vinyl paint, if a person desires a fix.

  4. Is it really that difficult to spell out "probably"? I'm sorry but it drives me NUTS when people say "prolly". It just sounds lazy and uneducated.

You have stumbled upon a covert age marker (prolly), identifying it's user as young and impressionable and/or out on a day pass from the Day Center for the Tragically Hip.

  5. I tried to get a new extra key today. I was told it will come right from Ford already cut for a mere $130 and then you need to have the stealer program it for another $90. what happened to going to the hardware store and getting a key made for a buck 99

Go to another "stealership". Most parts departments can cut the key (standard Ford chipped blank- "Valet Key" no buttons) or provide the full button package key, and you can program it yourself...IF... you have BOTH of the original keys. If you don't then the dealer must do the programming.

It's nice when the dealer thinks so highly of their customers.

  6. I have a 17 foot 99 Nitro Tracker. I was wandering if the Edge could handle it in tow. That was honestly the only thing keeping me from making the purchase! So, you think i'll be fine? I assume you got the class II towing package. Is there anything else i need to get?

    Thanks.

My $0.02 worth is that if you are towing on the flat terrain, on short hops to the water, with shallow slope boat ramps, things ought to be pretty good. Other than that, I think you would be pushing your luck for any longevity. You would be at the upper limit of the stated capabilities. You might want to weigh you boat/motor/trailer, ready to go with all the stuff in it, and a full tank. Go to a truck scale, unhitch and set it on the bow caster. You might be surprised at the actual weight of the rig.

  7. I really appreciate the feedback on this forum and certainly understand the comments by those not getting the gas milage they expected. I have not yet purchased the Edge but am very close to getting one. I understand that driving conditions and driving habits all have to be factored in but the bottom line is that the sticker on the Edge does say between 17 to 24 mpg. So worse case I would expect 17 mpg to be the minimum. As I mentined in an earlier post the salesperson told me that it takes about 5000 miles before the gas milage starts to improve.

By some of the posts it seems that this is not always the case.

You really should read the entire sticker statement, before making an expectation about your bottom line. You will find that it is alot more than the "big" numbers.

  8. I purchased my Edge while in Laurel, Maryland on a trip from South Carolina two weeks ago. I did not have time for the dealer to add a trailer hitch. Does anyone have options as to what I should do?

Basically, I wish to pull a small jon boat and occasional other small trailers.

I'd check with the dealer, in that, the factory "tow package" comes with the hitch, oil cooler, larger radiator, upgraded cooling fan and bigger battery. Like most things, depending upon the total load, you might be OK with installing a hitch and oil/transmission cooler...BUT...any warranty related mishaps probably would be a problem given the non-factory installation.

I would install the hitch, if you can find someone to "custom" or if dealer could provide. It doesn't sound like your "loads" would be a problem for the Edge. If your "trips" are relatively short and load is below the total 3500 lbs limit you should be fine. Just watch the temp gauges from time to time.

    That's my $0.02 worth.

  9. I do think that sntmods makes a good point. The fuel recommended is 87 octane. My buddy has a Murano and they say you should use a 91 octane or better. He still uses 87 because he is cheap, I am not sure what if any effect that will have on his engine, but if he were to use the recommended 91+ he would be paying alot more for his gas than I am for mine. He is getting roughly 19-21 mpg on his Murano.

    Jimmerz-

Have you and your buddy considered swapping vehicles for a week? It might be an interesting experiment in MPG and make/model differences.

  10. Frankly, I would like to see any damage to my new vehicle before it was repaired.

I went to the dealer's lot, at their request, as they were NOT going to do anything until I had a chance to see it. The damage was on the passenger side and looked suspicioiusly like a "chain binder" had been dropped across one of the embossed stiffener channels. It was repaired within the week, with no perceptable trace.

I took delivery on April 23, and I have been happy to own this vehicle. I can find none of the criticisms stated on this and the Blue Oval forum to be of much concern. I sense that some prefer to believe all that they read without actual experience, but that is their burden.

  11. There are a lot of very good chrome polishes out there...

    Never Dull Polish

    Bomsaway

    Mother's Chrome Polish

    Liquid Glass

    Autosol

These are directly from folks on my motorcycle forum. And people who have Motorcycles KNOW how to clean chrome!!!

I have a bottle of Fast And Furious Chrome cleaner, it works great also.

Mythbusters cleaned an old chrome bumper with aluminum foil and Coke. It worked the best, even against the commercial stuff.

I'd be worried about putting foil against chrome, but if chrome is tougher than aluminum, maybe there's nothing to worry about....

Aren't the factory "chrome clad" wheels...clad in plastic chrome?????

If they are, then all of the above could do some serious damage to the surface.

    Just a thought.

  12. After waiting 44 days, my SEL+ AWD, Light Sage Metallic, no BAMR/no Nav/no Rear Entertainment, finally arrived. I know that the turnaround time for my order was short, compared to others, but still a "long" time.

I got the call from the dealer with good news and bad news. The Edge arrived, as ordered, yesterday, but.....it was delivered with what we call in my business: "Teamster Tracks" (sorry brudda's). It looks like someone during the course of shipment, allowed a "chain binder" or other device to fall on the roof. Nice size dent on the formed reinforcement of the roof. I will get to view the repair hopefully by the end of the week (dealer estimate). If all is well, the deal will be completed, if not, then time to start looking at the Lincoln lots, as they seem to have the best selection in stock, and be resigned to taking some of the options that I don't need/want.

Sad that what appears to be a well assembled vehicle succumbed to a transport accident/lack of attention. I do wonder why it wasn't noted at the rail yard, or by the truck transport.

    Onward.
