I've finally had enough of the intermittent disc read error on the wife's GPS and the lack of a back up camera, and plan on installing a 7" android unit. I've swapped out plenty of head units in the past, but not in a vehicle with sync and steering wheel controls. The unit lists that it has a feature to configure steering wheel controls, but I'm not sure if it needs a canbus adapter or handles it internally. Have scoured the internet and checked Crutchfield's site, but I'm not finding any definite solutions to what I'll need to get the job done. Trying to avoid tearing up the wife's dash, only to find out I need to order something else. Has anyone swapped out the factory nav system in the Limited for one of the universal Chinese head units? If so, besides the 2Din adapter faceplate, which harness adapter and other components will I need to complete the job?
Appreciate suggestions to go with a name brand setup, but I have a Pioneer unit in my 2006 F-150 and not impressed with it. Had a cheap Chinese unit I installed in my old 97 F-150 that I really miss. Will be installing the same unit that's going into my wife's Edge into my F-150 later.
