  1. Are you the original owner of this Edge? If the struts/springs are fine, they may not be mounted correctly, or the stops (determine the limits of strut travel) may be too short.

Have you taken it in for servicing/inspection?

We are the original owners. Haven't taken it in to the dealer for this even though they have done all the warranty and what little service work it has needed. I'll do that...I just figured the shock/struts surely couldn't have gone bad already. We'll see and thanks for the suggestion.

  2. My 2008 Edge has 60,000 miles on it and rides like a Tank! It did this with the original tires and now II have Michlien LTX MS tires on it and they are inflated 2 lbs less than called for on the door jam. The car doesn't seem to bounce up and down when you push down on the fenders, so I don't think it;s worn out shocks. When you ride in the back seat and hit any little seam in the highway it just bangs. I am begunining to think it's just the way these short wheel base cars ride but it gets old driving on a concrete highway...bang...bang...bang at every seam. Does anyone know of any suspension changes that would soften the ride or am I just stuck?

I'll try to answer all the questions in this one reply or post. The original tires that came on out 2008 Edge were the Michelin Latitude Tour HP. P245-60-R18. SO..after reading reviews on Tire Rack I replaced them with the Michelin Latitude Tours. Supposedly they rode better? I frankly did not notice any difference in the ride but did notice some increase in tire noise. The salesman at the tire store explained why and it had to do with the outside stipes on the tire. As mentioned I cut a deal and went to the LTX- MS in the original P-245-60-18s. These seem to ride better and more quiet than the other two and with out pushing their courtesy, I'll stay with these. I have read good reviews on the Toyo tires but if the LTX-MS tires hold up for 50 to 60,000 miles will probably not get a chance to try them? As I mentioned earlier I drove a 2008 Edge and a 2010 Edge both with Perelli ( I can't spell) tires and neither rode any better than mine. SO...I guess it comes down "That's just the way things are" Short wheel base, lack of insulation and no full length frame.

I am in the same boat as one of the other posters...I asked my wife if she wanted to look around for a different car and the answer was "NO" I like my car and it's paid for" Good enough for me. :)

Thanks to everyone for your comments.

  4. I have raised this question before and still not happy with the ride of my 08 Edge SEL. The car came with the Michelin Latitude Tour HP. At 44,000 miles I changed to the Michelin Latitude Tour and didn't get any better ride with those. I cut a deal with the tire store and now have the Michelin LTX-MS. They ride a little better than the other two but the car still rides harsh. I was hoping for a softer ride from one of these but not so. Frustrated I went to the Ford dealer and drove a used 08 Edge and a used 2010 Edge to see how they rode...same thing! I understand that the Edge does not have a full length frame and this is a short wheel base vehicle but I can't imagine why Ford would not produce the Edge to have a smoother ride. My main complaint is driving on the highway. You can feel most seams with a bang, bang, bang. According to the dealer there is nothing wrong or wore out with the struts and shocks and this is just the way the Edge rides. Anyone with the same thoughts and anyone with any suggestions to improve the ride?

  5. After 40,000 miles on my wife's 2008 Edge I replaced the Michelin Latitude HP tires with Michelin LTX_MS tires. I made my decision after reading reviews on Tire Rack and opinions form forum members, plus I had been pleased with them on a 2003 F-150 that I used to have. The thing I am wondering about now, is it time after 46,000 miles on the car to be looking into replacement shocks? A couple of things lead me to ask for help in this are...#1 I don't drive my wife's car much but was hoping the tires would ride softer. It seems that they hit the seams in the highway harder than I was expecting. I debated between the LTX-MS, the plain Latitude Tour and the Continental's. Yes, they are at correct PSI. #2..Used to be that you checked shocks by bouncing the front end up and down but frankly I don't know if that is still a way to check absent of any visible oil leaks. #3...I am not sure now If I haven't put the wrong tires on the Edge?

I sure could use some advise before I go to the tire store and discuss this with them. I want to go with some knowledge and hopefully not get smoke blown up my skirt! Lastly...IF...I get into struts and shock replacement, what would be a good brand, etc, etc to put on that would give me the best, as in a soft ride? Hopefully I'll here form someone who has "been there, done that" and what their results were.

    Thanks for any help.

  6. I have had those on my 07 Edge for 3 months now. They are pretty quiet so far. They look like "snow tires" but are not. $1000 otd at the Ford dealer.

Thanks The OEM tires get mixed reviews at tire rack with hardly any negative comments on the LTX-MS. Puls I don't think the Latitude tour HP should have wore out at 44 or so thousand miles and they have generated a lot of road noise. Thanks for your input.

  7. My wifes car (2008 Edge ) came with Michelin Latitude Tour HP 245/60/R18 tires. Now after 43,000 they need to be replaced. I am leaning real hard toward the Michelin LTX-MS because I have had it on a different vehicle before and it comes in that size. I would appreciate some input from those that have tried this tire on the Edge or input on a different tire you have used.

    Thanks

  9. I am starting to think that such an animal does not exist, but I am trying to find LT tires that will fit the stock 18" rims. If anyone knows of a tire that is close to the 245/60/18 that's on my Limited, please let me know. Keep in mind that I am also north of the border. Thanks.

Pull up the Michelin web site. I think you will find the LTX-MS tire in the size you are looking for?

  10. I had alot of noise on my 07 Edge starting at 30,000 mi. Thought it was either the tires or rear wheel bearing. Replaced the OEM

Conti's last week with the Mich LTX-MS. No more noise.

That's interesting! The Mich LTX-MS is the first one for me to consider. Like I said, I had them on a pick-up and loved them. How do the handle on the front wheel drive Edge?

  11. A bad wheel bearing will cause a lot more road noise also.

Nope...no bad wheel bearing...just road noise. Can't figure out if it's just the car, short wheel base and no isolation from the tires OR the tires themselves. The noise will intensify or decrease with changing road surfaces but certainly not as quiet as I would expect. I'm hoping for another 20,000 out of the tires and will be trying to research, with help from the forum, which would be a good and more quiet tire. I had some Michelin LTX-MS tires on my previous truck and they were the best tires I have ever had but don't know how they would do on the Edge?

  13. I have a 2008 Edge that we bought new and now has 39,000 miles on it. I have long questioned the amount of road noise the car generates. I wondered more after buying a 2010 Ford F-150 which is quiet as a church mouse. I understand the two vehicles are different, as in wheel base and front wheel drive but would like some opinions.

The Edge came with Michelin P-245/60 R18 Latitude Tour HP that get rotated every 6000 miles and are holding up very well. It just seems that there is more road noise than what I would like. I read somewhere that the Latitude regular tire rather than the HP was more quiet? Any opinions or experience with other tires on the Edge would be appreciated.

Is it the tires OR the nature of the car?

    Thanks

  14. I have said it before and will say it again, as have others who deal with the reflection.. it is not shine related. trust me. it is the simple and easy conclusion to jump to. I could dull that dash and you will still get the issue. I just dealt with it again coming down from the mountains this weekend. once you are keen to it, it is obvious. and my dash is "dull" so to speak. it is all about light and angle of windshield. yeah, sure, maybe the "shine" might - and I say might - add a bit to it, but it is there heavy nonetheless. IIRC, Ford took steps to address it after it was noticed in the '07 models.

that photo above, it does not do the issue justice.

I have a 2008 Edge and the glare is not bad. The only trouble I have is around dusk and then there isn't enough lighting to easly see the gauges. However...if you think you have a problem...try a 2009, 2010 and 2011 Ford F-150 on for size. there is so much glare on the gauges it is hard to make them out sometimes, ESPECIALLY the area above the center stack where the radio, time, direction etc gauges are...Impossible to see most of the time during the day!! If anyone has a cure for that, I'd like to hear it.

  15. Ford has addressed in a letter that there is a Heater core problem in the Edge. They have extended the warranty to 6 yrs 100,000 miles I believe

Ford has sent out a letter stating you may experience heater core problems and had extended the warranty on the heater core to 6 years or 105,000 miles. If you have heater core problems, they will inspect and do repairs as required. In the letter it states that it may only require that the factory coolant needs to be flushed and a "REVISED" coolant put in. Since they know they have a problem with the factory coolant I am asking that they preform the flush and coolant change before I have problems OR before I am stuck with the problem after 105,000 miles. So far I have not had any luck and am asking the Auto section of the BBB to look into this.

  16. I own a 2008 Edge LTD and are having a few problems+ just wondering if anyone else is having the same problems?

    (1)Replaced 2 rear wheel bearings/hub assemblies,only 10,000 miles on car.

    (2) Replaced VCT Solenoid,as engine lite came on

(3)It now has to go back again, becuase it doesn't idle smoothly+ car jerks when slowing down??

    (4) engine lite on again??

Like the car,but just wondering whether this is just the start of many problems,so wondering what others experience is or has been with this vehicle?

    Any comments would be appreciated.

The wheel bearing problem at 10,000 miles is caused by a mis-aligned casting that holds the bearing and the hub in one assembly. Had mine done at 10,500 or so. Ford had a bulliten on it and knew rfom the start when I brought it in. I don't expect this to be an on going problem with the bearings.

  17. It's not likely that you left a light on - the battery saver should have kicked in to prevent that (leave your overhead light on and it will automatically shut off after 10 or 30 minutes).

Modern cars can drain a battery if left for more than a few days. The PCM is still running, managing the anti-theft system and awaiting your keyless entry command.

I'd have it checked just to be safe - it is possible the battery is bad or there is something else draining it too fast, but don't be surprised if it comes back as normal.

Had the same problem with a different car...turned out to be a cracked fuse block

  18. I had a sound and also thought of a fuel pump. It turhed out to be a right side wheel bearing that was caused by the swing arm and wheel hub not being square with each other. It was manufartured wrong. Only on modles built during a certain time frame. Ford has a service bulletin on it.

    Good luck

  19. I had posted earlier concerning an abrupt accelerator response with my 2008 Edge. It is only there at speeds of about 2-3 MPH such as when moving in a parking lot.

I received a reply from someone listed as "CreamEdge" and advised that I disconnect the negative battery cable for 15 min, pump the brake 3-4 times and then re-attach the cable. Supposedly in an attempt to re-set the "TCM" which I assume is the transmission control module?

I replied to the answer but got no response. I am new to the forum...not sure who or what qualifications "CreamEdge" is or has. I am rather reluctant to try this for fear of affecting other things by disconnecting the battery cable. Has anyone heard of this as a possible solution to my problem?

  20. Try to reset the TCM by leaving the negative battery terminal cable off for 15minutes, then pump the brakes and put it back on.

Thanks ...but..what is the TCM and what am I trying to accomplish and will this reset everything else such as memory seating, clocks etc.

  21. My 2008 Edge with 2,000 miles has an abrupt response when trying to give it just a little gas in a parking lot if I am moving about 3 to 5 MPH. It's not a real big deal, just annoying. In every other situation the accelerator response is smooth. Both of my other vehicles are as smooth as silk. Before I take it in to the dealer I would like to know if any one else has this problem and what was done to fix it? I know little about mapping, computer and chips other than could any of these have anything to do with the problem?
