For me the V3.0 update (there was another that appeared since then) brought the home screen heated steering button.  I think for some builds certain features are rolled out in different revisions - which seems strange to me - but then I don't really know much about the inner workings of the sync interface.  My comments here do not apply to the ST by the way - I have a 16 sport.

Thank you. I've also got the 16 Sport. I'll look for that newer update. Thanks for the heads up!

The heated steering button is a sync3 update - which you can get via a wifi download or a dealer install I imagine (I did the wifi option on mine).  After the update is appears on the home screen of sync.  For the life of me I cannot understand how that made it through qa testing as it most certainly should have come out that way from the start.

That's interesting, was it the V3.0 update? I also completed the update a month or two ago, but no change to my home screen for the heated steering wheel button unfortunately.

  3. Owners manual says to not drive "too quickly" (whatever that means ?) for the 1st 1,000 miles while engine breaks in. If you really wanted to be safe, you could probably change the oil after that initial break in. The service intervals don't reference the need for the 1st oil change to be performed prior to the normal interval of 7,500 - 10,000 miles. Although I personally won't ever wait that long for oil changes because I drive a bit more spirited & my experience with turbo engines. This is one of those topics similar to "what oil brand should I use". I'm sure you'll get a range of answers across the board!

I'd say go with whatever makes you feel most comfortable. For what it's worth as a point of reference, the previous race engine I built had break-in oil until 400 miles, changed again at 600 miles, again at 1,000 miles and one last time at 1,300 with full synthetic.  The tolerances of the 2.7 eco boost are less aggressive so you should experience much less break in wear. If I had purchased my Sport new, I'd probably be changing it around 1,000 miles give or take. Like poster above though, I don't have technical info on the Edge in regards to that requirement outside what is referenced in the owners manual.

Not fixed.... 'Senior Tech was assigned to your vehicle. He was able to reproduce the issue. No fault codes were found. Fluid levels were fine.' A call was put into a Ford hotline, waiting for a response. No TSBs have been issued.

    Bummer.

At least they were able to recreate the issue when the tech drove the car. That's a big part of getting an automaker's attention to look into issues. Here's to hoping they have it resolved quickly for you!

  5. Probably sounds like a dumb question, but where are you finding the price? Just went to MF website and for me it was showing "currently under development". I also thought MF doesn't sell directly off their site. Although this is promising! Kind of hoping it might be able to be tweaked to fit my Sport ?. Good find!

Yeah I know I reset the main gauge then there are also the two Trip ones.  They all read different now.  I am lazy so before I start running numbers I figured I would ask and see what others may be seeing.  I am going to see what Apps are out there for the phone, instead of just noting all my mileages in a note or something.  Thanks.

I use a free app called Fuelly. Pretty basic, but you input mileage in, how many gals and cost and will track your progress as you fill up each time. Pretty neat app if you're into tracking those sorts of things (I'm a data guy so I live for this stuff lol).

Congrats on the ST, I'm jealous! Hope you're enjoying it for the most part.

What are you guys/gals getting for MPG?  Mine is pretty much 16.4 on the computer and I reset it when I got it, has 830 miles on it and got it with 200.  16.8 from new according to the Trip 1 gauge.  I do remote start it almost daily and let it run a few minutes because I live in the frozen tundra of Upstate NY, Watertown.  But still I expected a tad better.  I am not hammering on it but running it nice then a few times with some gusto during breakin.  I even had the cruise set at 75 on the highways and on a flat was the only time the instant hit over 20 and that was not much over 20, maybe 22-23ish.  Most of the time it was at 20 or under on a relatively mild road, mostly flat with slight up and downs.  Engine was fully warmed up.  I know winter gas drops it a hair but my 1998 Jeep GV V-8 seemed to get better mileage and I beat on that.  Is it just because low miles, I do mostly mixed driving some 65 and some 40 and normally only 10 minutes at a time since that is what it takes to get to work.  I just expected closer to the city rating of 19.  My Focus ST that I had two pedal modes, floored and idle, got 23 MPG and that was driven the same and I drove it like I was running from the cops.

Thanks.  If it has been covered I am sorry, I only checked for posts in here.

I don't have an ST, but have the Sport & also live in Upstate NY (little north of Albany). The idling will definitely hurt your MPGs, but will depending how long its warming for. I do know new cars tend to get worse gas mileage and will increase a bit as the car breaks in. While your 2.7 has a bit different tuning than mine and the ability to disconnect the rear wheels completely, I'm betting gas mileage will be darn similar. I track my fuel economy using a phone app.

Through the couple months I've owned the Edge, here is what I'm getting.***One note I've been using 93 octane for every fill up except 1 or 2 which I used ethanol free 91 octane. I dind't see much of an improvement/change with the 91, so I went back to 93. After 2133 miles, I'm average 19.5 MPG. This differs quite a bit from what my trip computer says. I have not reset over the 2133 miles and it's showing closer to 21 mpg. Have you tried calculating your MPG manually, definitely possible your trip computer is not accurate. Like the poster above, manually is your best bet for accurate figures.

We get letters and phone calls from our dealer all the time. Everything from 'our use car inventory is low',  or 'We need used Edge's on our lot'. Even get dealer 'spam' on my Mustang too :)

They are just trying to sell you a new vehicle :(

This is my experience as well. The dealer will always have "low inventory" or "several buyers" looking for "your car" where they will give you a "great deal" on a new car. BUT like you said OP, your payments are up in April. I'm the kind of person that doesn't like car payments, so for me that would be a check in the "no new car" box. However everyone has their preference on car payments.

That being said, they are kind of apples to oranges in my opinion. TI vs SI are different motors and different suspension/brake setups, so perhaps you think about it more along the lines of what are you looking for out of your Edge? I see you have a couple of quick cars, so if you're Edge is more a hauler my vote would be to keep the TI. One last thing to consider, while its not a completely new car for 2019, lots of new parts and redesign. First year of redesign always ends up having some type of first year bugs that will be worked out for 2020+.

My first car was a '64 Chevelle Malibu, boy what I'd give to have had a 496 in there!

  9. You should have them give you the runout readings from the balancing if they can, just to make sure they did truly get into spec. I know this option is annoying but..... may be worth bringing your car to another dealership/indy shop and have them balanced there. If you have a good shop you trust, let them know the dealership is having issues balancing and see if they don't mind trying and getting their thoughts.

Something else to check, see how many weights they used to get the tires/wheels balanced. If there is one or several with what seems like an over-abundance of wheel weights, I wonder if you have an out of round rim that needs replacing.

One other thing (but less likely), would be brake rotor warped or caliper stuck. Does it get any worse/no different when braking?

Update 12/19/2018:  My wife finally received her repaired Edge ST yesterday late evening. This was a 42 day repair.

Final diagnosis:  1) Verified coolant leak from the coolant block on the PTU. 2) Verified rear main seal oil leak. Both were identified as "Assembly" defects and were fully covered under warranty.

The parts list is long, the labor hours to complete was very large as well. There was a leaking half shaft seal that was the third defect, but probably got lost as a separate diagnosis as they had to pull both CV half shafts anyway as the transmission had to be removed to access the rear main oil seal. Basically, the entire powertrain was negatively impacted, and much of it had to be removed to effect repairs (basically only the engine and rear differential were not removed). Total parts that were removed include the battery, wiper cowl assembly, steering shaft, manifold/catalytic converter, both CV half shafts, PTU, transmission, connecting exhaust, subframe, and some suspension components. That was what was identified on the repair order

We have not decided yet on any next steps, but the Edge ST seemed to drive well last night when bringing it home. We of course will monitor the vehicle for any subsequent leaks, driving issues, etc. Never been through something like this before, and I hope that I never experience this again.

I've been following your ST since you started having the issues. Glad you finally got the ST back at home & sorry about the issues, what a nightmare from the sounds of it! Isn't it crazy a couple of seals/leaks can cause so much needing to be removed to fix. One thing I did want to say, and I know you were mulling over your options.... I wouldn't be too concerned about those issues causing others down the road. Of course there are tons of variables, but coming from a family of mechanics, having to removal and reinstall doesn't normally cause quality/longevity issues down the road.... although I can certainly understand the apprehension when a new car has issues out of the gate that take a month to resolve. Hoping for your sake those are the only two issues you will run into for a few years! Will be interesting to see if those are common issues once a few more STs have been sold and are on the road.

Either way, hope the wife is able to enjoy some wheel time :)

No. Some are just front wheel drive. Did you just assume that it was AWD or was it sold to you that way?

Another thing is that tires make a huge difference. Summer tires have no traction in snow. zero. nothing. all seasons are barely better. for winter driving you need winter tires even if you don't see snow. cold temps reduce traction dramatically on non-winter tires.

There are websites that let you get your original sticker if you put in your VIN. That will give you 100% positive information as to whether or not your car is AWD.

I actually have the window sticker & can confirm that it is AWD. Completely agree on the winter tires being better in the snow. I may pick up a set at some point, but will likely ride out this winter. There are some decent all-season tires on there now, but need to find me a set of winter alloys :)

I'm less concerned with getting good traction in the snow due to tires, trying more to figure out if my AWD is working as it should or if there were settings I was unaware of. I didn't want to band-aid the issue with winter tires if my rear wheels aren't engaging properly. Sounds like i should look into the PTU/RDU a bit more and see if that is causing the issues. Still under the bumper-to-bumper warranty so at least if anything is wrong, should be covered by Ford. Thanks again everything for some ideas, will keep digging into it to see what I can come up with.

I thought there was a display that would show you the torque distribution.

Yes I did manage to find that and it wasn't sending any torque to the rear wheels. That's why I was kind of wondering there might be some type of drive mode selection or awd on/off options. I did test on the highway when I floored it the rear wheels showed they were getting torque, just surprised on snow it wasn't sending any traction to the rear.

  13. Thank you very much! Taking a look at the owners manual now, would turning off traction control help engage the AWD system better? Tires are all seasons, have about 50% tread left. I'm less concerned about their grip as I will probably be replacing them come spring time. I'd say they have another good winter left in them for winter road driving. More so trying to figure out how to get the AWD working if there are settings for it. Doesn't look like it from the Owner's manual, but didn't know if other owners have run into similar issues with the rear wheels not engaging.

  14. Hi All,

Just purchased a 2016 Ford Edge Sport with about 28k miles on it. Love the car so far! Had been looking for a new car to replace my 2005 Saab for about a year, but hadn't found a car with all the features I wanted at my price point. Was really across the board with my search, looking at everything from a Lexus GS350, Volvo XC60, BMW X5 & X3, Genesis G80, Jeep Cherokee & Grand Cherokee. Happened upon my local Dodge dealership that took this car in on trade. With '16s having the ACC and the 401 tech package, I took it for a drive and was sold! Hadn't really considered a Ford prior, but wow I was impressed what you get for the money. Great car so far!

Now onto my question: The northeast had a big snow storm this past week and I had driven up to my cabin for the weekend. The driveway which is just dirt was covered in snow, but packed down from a few cars. Long story short, my car had sat for two days before I got in to leave the cabin. When I put the car in reverse, got no traction at all. Felt like the front wheels were just spinning, which makes sense... snow and ice! Driveway is pretty flat so I had some family come out and help me push the car backwards to get out of those little divots that form from spinning the tires (maybe only 2-3inches deep at this point). I had my brother hop into the driver seat so I could help push backwards. As he was hitting the gas, I noticed only the front wheels were spinning and the rear wheels weren't moving/spinning at all. I tried to find traction control to turn off, thinking maybe that would get power to the rear wheels, but doesn't look like turning that off is an option. Anyways.... and I feel silly for asking this, but I thought these were AWD? I consider myself a pretty knowledgeable car guy, but don't know much about Fords. Is there a way to get power/traction to go to the rear wheels? I watched for a while as only the front wheels were spinning and nothing was being sent to the rear wheels. Went through the range of trying to "creep" out of the holes and my brother tried hitting the gas with more gusto to propel it out, nothing seemed to get the rear wheels to kick in. Is there something I was doing wrong here or are these cars known to have AWD issues? I feel like my 2005 5-speed Saab (FWD) would have had an easier time getting out of the snow with the manual trans, but was surprised how seemly poor the traction was in the Edge. However, could absolutely be driver error as I've only had the car for less than a week.

Really appreciate the help that anyone can provide!
