  1. I own a 2019 ST with 13,000 miles on it. About 5 months ago it started developing weird transmission issues. The first was in heavy bumper to bumper traffic when I was in NYC. A lot of clunking and slipping/surging along with strange "Thumps/shudders" when coming to a stop (Like a softball rolling from the tailgate to the back seat). You could feel it through out the cabin although it seemed like it was coming from the rear end.

I had it looked at back in June and they did a SW update on the PCM. This seemed to fix some of the issues but not the thud/shudder while coming to a stop (Definitely not brake related as it does it with no brakes applied either). I took it back to the dealer (Not my purchasing dealer) and left it while I was on vacation but it sat for 7 days without moving (thanks ford pass). Needless to say I was upset so I picked it up and made an appt at my purchasing dealer. They had it for 2 days and came up with replacing the gas tank straps, which are on back order. Definitely not the issue but this is what ford tells them to do.

Not happy with that explanation, I started to look more in depth into when and how it happens (It does it 10 out of 10 times and can be consistently repeated as I did for the tech during a ride). I have come up with the following.

It only happens when in regular transmission mode. If I put it in Sport mode or paddle shift, it does not happen. Furthermore I think I've traced it to a final downshift to 1st gear when stopping. If I am in Sport mode it seems to downshift at a much higher RPM and only into possibly 2nd gear until at a full stop so no thud/shudder. Also If I paddle shift up to about 4th gear and let it come to a stop without downshifting, it comes to a stop in 2nd and does not thud/shudder.

Has anyone had any similar experiences?

I've followed through all the transmission posts since I became a member 2 years ago so I know there had been a lot of issues since the ST came out.

Edit: I just found this. It's exactly my issue

  2. My 19 ST has always had some transmission oddities since I purchased it new (May 19) It would Clunk loudly going into drive from park and switching from reverse to drive. It would slip a little going from reverse to drive and moving forward. It also recently developed some strange bumps/thumps while moving in NY bumper to bumper traffic. just inching along not pressing the gas pedal. I took it in and they did the PCM update and said It was fixed.Since then I have not been in bumper to bumper traffic, but noticed this thump when slowly coming to a red light or a stop sign right before you stop. I sounds like something shifting in the cargo area like a ball rolling from the tailgate to the back seat. Not extremely loud but it sounds like something disengaging. I emptied everything from the cargo/under cargo area, the consul and nothing under the seats. I can make it do it 10/10 times so it's something mechanical. I'm dropping it off next week so they can have it for 5 days while I'm gone away.

The fronts went on as if they were OEM, the rear needed a little extra pushing to get them to line up but once you start to draw down the bolt they snap in place.  They should be tight against the brake caliper when installing them.   At least 1/4 inch away from the rim there is no way they will touch.  After install went out for a 20 minute road test and came back everything stayed in place. Have put these on my fathers car in 2013 when he bought a new Nissan and they are still on and look like new.  After about a month I did go and give a slight turn on the bolts to make sure they stayed tight and have not touched them since.   I rotate my tires so as part of my plan will always put a torq on them just to make sure they are still at 25 in-lbs.

My mistake. I confused your pictures with SweetAnnie's I have the same rims in her pictures. Hopefully she has no issues with rim clearance

I am interested to know how close they come to the inside of the rim. I was pulling the trigger on the same ones you have but I could barely fit a folded piece of paper between my caliper and the inside of the rim without rubbing (We have the same rims)

I did email them and they assured me they fit though

BTW Ford offers a tire and wheel warranty package.

I didn't purchase the rim/tire warranty on my 2014 Escape with the 19' rim/tire package and immediately regretted it! cost me $$$$$ when I hit one and needed a new rim and tire. I purchased it for my edge ST this time around.
