  1. It turned out it was the injector on cylinder 3. Replaced it and the issue went away. Happy until the transmission went out at about 215k. Put another transmission in it thinking with the price of new cars and the relative limited selection I was doing the right thing. The second transmission started coming out with just over 5k on it, so I ended up trading it in and buying a new Sorento. I miss my Edge. I didn't want to get rid of it because I loved it, but it was either pricey repair bills or a car payment. Car payment was cheaper.
  2. Hey guys! Fairly new to the forum. I bought my 2008 Edge Limited used about 3 years ago. It currently has 214k miles in it. A couple months ago, it started acting up with hubby with lights coming on in the dash, not wanting to go uphill, among other things. On the advice of a friend, we took it to a local transmission shop that we have dealt with for years and let him scan it and look at it. He said it's the sensors that are the problem. He can replace them, but cannot guarantee how long they will last. Apparently, the fluid wasn't maintained either (keep in mind, bought the car used so not sure what has or hasn't been done and yes we did check it). Now I'm stuck making a hard decision. My options are to spend $600 to change sensors and fluid, spend $4300 for a new transmission or get rid of this car and buy another. Other than the above, there is nothing else wrong with the car. A brand new vehicle is out of the question, just can't do a big car payment. So I ask...what would you do in this situation? I've considered doing the sensors and getting rid of it, but with things the way they are and prices sky high, I'm reluctant.
  3. When you talk about this kit and buy online from the dealer, can you show an example? The more I read, the more it points to the injector. It's odd that I only get a code when it's hot, never when cold. I want to do this right the first time and for the long term. I'm used to stuff I can work on...not all this electronic stuff. At 201k, a tune up is likely due. I'm not sure what has/has not been done as it was used when I got it. I like the car, though. Thanks for the reply! ?
  4. Hello everybody! New member with an issue. My Edge has a little over 201k and starting Monday of last week came down with a strange problem. I had been off from work running errands and had stopped at a local Kroger to pick up a couple items before heading home. Car had been running fine and ran fine when shut off in the parking lot. Was in the store about 15-20 mins, came out and started the car and it was running rough with a flashing check engine light. Managed to limp it to hubby's work (local airport) and his mechanic came out with his (professional) computer and cleared the codes (P0303 and P0203). When started again, it ran fine all the way home. After getting home and shutting it off and waiting 10 mins or so, restarted the vehicle and the rough idle and codes were back again. This is where it gets strange. Let it sit long enough to cool down and it runs JUST FINE. No issues. No power reduction, no codes, no rough idle...NOTHING. It runs perfect. It has consistently followed this pattern of rough idle on restart after being driven. The only thing to change is the fact that only the P0203 code comes back (misfire code has not come back) and a P0171 (lean code) has popped up, but has not been back since Thursday of last week. Hubby took negative cable off the battery to reset the computer and noted that it arced bad when being put back on, which it should not do. I am wondering if anybody else has had this issue and, if you did, what did you do to fix it? The earliest the local dealership can get me in is on October 4th. I am not dumb when it comes to things automotive (have good basic understanding and can do a lot of my own basic maintenance), but it seems if something was indeed wrong with the injector that it would act up all the time, not just under certain conditions (but, again, I could be wrong!). I am not sure what is going on, but this is something I have not experienced before. Any input is appreciated. Thank you in advance! EDIT: I should mention that I bought this car used with 172k and have no idea when/if the spark plugs/coils etc have been changed.
