    Same with me. I will never buy another after owning six new ones. I have a 2019 and only have 3600 miles on it and am to the point where I'm going to trade it off. I can't believe they are still putting the same transmissions in new ones. I hate driving this thing especially when it's cold.

    Yep, there is probably a reason you found one on a lot with only 10,000 miles on it... someone unloaded it. 

    What I find the most frustrating to me is the fact that they all don't do it. I have driven three others equipped exactly like mine and the harsh shifting is hardly noticable. I believe that's the main reason there are not more complaints than there are.

     

    Mine, like so many others, is worse when it's cold. I have kicked myself a hundred times for not noticing it when I test drove it but after giving it some thought I realized that they already had it warmed up. It wasn't until the next morning that I got the full effect. 

     

    I'm not in a position to trade it in and take a big hit now so I'll have to drive it for a couple years at least. I've been buying Ford's for a long time but this is my last. This has really soured me on them for not fixing an obvious problem.

  4. Toby99...I too mailed letters directly to Ford executives, three of them to be exact. I would send one every day if I thought it would do any good.

     

    In answer to your question of why others are not complaining is simply that they all don't do it. I know this for a fact having ridden in two I couldn't get it to do it and talking to two other owners that when asked about it didn't know what I was talking about. There must be tens of thousands of these things on the road. It's near impossible for me to believe that many people think like they say "that's just normal, that's how a car should run". Now the percentage of these cars that have this problem to the point of being as noticeable as ours is anybody's guess. I just happened upon this forum, I'm sure that there are many more out there that we don't know about.

     

    My question is where do we go from here? It would seem as though you and I have pretty much run the gantlet of things to do. I was thinking the other day about constructing some kind of a post that could be shared by friends and followers of Facebook, Twitter and any other form of social media. If it got out to enough do you think it may put more pressure on Ford to do something about it?

     

     

  5. Well, yesterday I had a field rep ride in my car along with the service manager at the dealership. Wouldn't you know it, the car didn't do it as much as it usually does so the rep wasn't able to get the full effect of what is going on. Absolutely nothing new to report...they brought it back, plugged it in to check for codes, looked for any new updates, the same thing they did the first time I took it back. Of course, there were no codes or new TSB's out so I was again told this is just normal. I talked to the service manager a while after the rep left and he didn't make it sound too promising of them coming up with a fix. In his opinion, they would have to rewrite the whole program which would involve emissions and government red tape. 

     

    He seems like a straight-up guy to me I don't think he was just trying to blow me off. He showed me where he contacted Ford and told them there was an issue and explained what is going on. In his words, Ford is aware but not enough people have complained about it yet require them to do anything. So I have pretty much run out of ideas as to what to do. I have written to the home office, opened cases on it, had a field rep come check it out, and had it back to the dealership three times now. If anyone else has any ideas I would love to hear from you.

  6. Kcbbriggs;   I was told that all 2019 Edge Titanium's have the same engine and transmission. The 8F35 is what is in mine and no doubt yours as well. I haven't noticed any clunking sounds or bogging down of mine but the rest you described is just like mine. There is supposed to be a field service rep come to the dealership where I bought it soon, maybe this Friday. As soon as he does I'll post on here to let everyone know what he has to say.

  7. Kcbbriggs:  I'm sorry to hear that you have joined the growing group of people that purchased this vehicle and are having problems. This only involves the 8F35 transmissions which are in all of the 2019 Edge Titaniums. I have researched this a good bit and have found that a lot, but not all, of these models, do this. It sounds like you have done just about all that we can do at this point if you opened a case. You can also call ford engineering at 313-518-7309. I also wrote letters and sent them to Dearborn Mi. and finally did receive an answer. Hopefully, with more people bring it to their attention that they will come up with a solution to fix it.

  8. Toby 99;  I had the 19-2331 performed on my vehicle over a month ago. It did not help the shifting issues at all. I was told that it is for another problem with the same transmission ( a harsh engagement clunk when shifting from park to drive or drive to reverse).  I would be very interested in knowing what Fords' field service engineer had to say.  I too tried the cruise control behind another vehicle in traffic and noticed the same thing that you guys have. A much smoother acceleration and shifting.

     

    Please keep me informed of any new developments about this situation.

  9. That is interesting Mikey I will try that the next time I get in traffic. Have you called the customer service line (1-800-392-3673) and opened a case? If not you need to do so and have them give you the case number. The service manager at the dealership where I bought mine said that is what will eventually drive Ford to come up with a fix. At this point, Ford just considers this an undesired operating characteristic of the vehicle and no repairs needed at this time. In other words, not enough people have complained about it yet.  Good luck and I hope the TSB 19-2331 does more for yours than it did mine.

    Here is an update on my issue.  Near the end of September I mailed an extensive document package to William Clay  Ford Jr., Executive Chairman, Jim Hackett, President and CEO, and Dave Filipe, President of Powertrain Engineering. 

     

    The documentation included a cover letter explaining the issue with the 2019 Edge.  It also included copies of my three service visits and this forum post from start to mid September.  Several weeks later I received an email from Brad Simmons, Ford's Director of Community Outreach.  Below is his email.

     

    Dear Richard,

     

     

     

    Your letter to Bill Ford has been forwarded to our office for reply.

     

     

     

    Please know that we do care about the ongoing problem you are having with your 2019 Ford Edge and understand that you are disappointed with the service you have received thus far.

     

     

     

    I have personally forwarded your letter to the manager of our Customer Service team requesting a review of the matter. A member of the team will be in touch with you as soon as possible.

     

     

     

    We truly hope this problem can be resolved to your satisfaction and that you will remain a member of our extended Ford family for many years to come. Our warmest good wishes to you.

    After several weeks of no contact by the Customer Service Team I emailed Mr. Simmons and asked for assistance.  As of today I have not received a reply from him nor have I received any contact by Customer Care.  I will also mention that I have not received any contact from Jim Hackett or Dave Filipe.

The service manager told me that the only thing I could do was complain to ford and if ENOUGH  people did they may up-grade the software. I never drove a 2020 and am curious to know if they did anything to correct the problem with them.

     

    I somehow missed it when I test drove it. The dealership is along a highway where I just jumped out on it and it was 50-60 mph up the road and the same back. As soon as I got it back to our community it started doing it (we have a 25 mph speed limit) and the next morning when it was cold it was worse. It is sickening to have bought a brand new car and have it run like a 72 duster or something.

    I've spent the past 20 minutes searching through an assortment of Edge groups and forums and can't find a single mention of erratic shifting from the new 8 speed.  I even tried a Google search for "Ford 8 speed transmission issues" and came up with nothing.....actually, nothing Ford related but GM owners sure do hate their 8 speeds.

     

    Literally everything inside your transmission is governed by a computer and servos so diagnosis and reprogramming is easily done just by plugging in a computer. I'd suggest taking it to a different dealership but first wait for feedback from those with the same transmission.  That way you'll have some documentation to take to the shop with you.  If you need to stick with the same shop, tell your service writer you want to take a ride in another '19 Edge with the same engine/trans combo.  Have him/her ride with you in your Edge and the one off the lot to see the difference.

    I was going to give you a link to a forum post that had several people reporting the same problems I'm having but for some reason, it won't let me. There has been a technical service bulletin issued for the 2019 edge SE model that is doing the exact same thing. I guess the titanium model has a slightly different eight-speed transmission and there have been no upgrades for the software at this time. The dealership service manager went as far as to tell me it was normal.

  15. I did not notice it when I test drove it. Just jumped out on the highway and it was 50-60 mph up the road and the same back. As soon as we got it back to our community and slowed down to 20-30 mph it started. I give it a tank of gas thinking maybe it just needed to get broke in a little. Of course, it didn't get better and when I took it back to the dealer I was told it was just normal for this vehicle and there was nothing they could do. I now have a new vehicle that upsets me every time I drive it.
