  1. So far I have not had to break out the estinguisher but I will keep my eyes open!! I can feel a difference in performance gains, more HP than TQ but the main thing I noticed the most was much better throttle response. I am getting a media card today for my phone so I will up load video / audio this afternoon. And no, I am not getting the card just so I can show all of you how it sounds! Check back this afternoon.
  2. I know, I know. When I first had the resonator removed it sounded great, but then I got greedy. Then when I had the system installed, I wanted to get rid of the drone and the only way to do that was to replace the resonator and move the muffler toward the rear. And yeah, I did have him replace the stock pipe that had multiple bends and install a straight pipe from the resonator to the muffler. I can say it is now complete and I am very happy! Still all in all I only paid $310 for all the work that was done, which is half of what most pay for just the system directly from Magnaflow not counting installation. The tips are only 3 inch outlets on the SEL. With the large opening on the bumper there is a huge gap and makes the tip look like a toothpick.
  3. Well I took your advice and had my Magnaflow CAT system redone. I decided to bite the bullet and get 2.5 inch piping and move the muffler from the mid to the rear like magnaflow recommends. I had to use my stock tips since I want 4 inch tips and they had none in stock, but are ordered. Here are some pics of the new work during installation. The sound is amazing with the additonal .25 inch pipes. Imagine the earlier sound clips of the gibson and the flowmaster except deeper and not quite so loud. I have to get a media card to record video from my phone and will do that tomorrow. Here are the pics now!
  4. Yeah, this is a custom made CAT system with no resonator and magnaflow muffler. The piping is stock size and Y'd at the rear with stock tips. I am considering putting the resonator back on. I love the way it sounds during acceleration and above 2k rmps, but around 1,600 to 2,000 rpms the interior drone is a bit overwhelming. Hopefully the resonator will fix this.
  5. Here is a better one. http://s706.photobucket.com/albums/ww63/ch...ideo3gpp2_2.flv
  6. Well here is my clip of my custom made Magnaflow CAT system that cost me a eye gauging $125. http://s706.photobucket.com/albums/ww63/chardylo/
  7. Ok, yesterday I reported that I had a custom CAT system installed on my 08 SEL. The muffler tech used the same size piping for the job and placed a Magnaflow in the same place where the resonator was ( I had the resonator removed the day before ). He had a single pipe running to the rear of the car and then Y'd it out to the tips. My problem is that the more I drive it the more I realize it is just a deep hum, and nothing like what was on the audio / video clips posted. What am I missing? Is it the location of the muffler, should it be in the rear or is it the size of the pipe or both? I am looking for throaty not deep humming? Please advise!
  8. The part of the pipe that bends from the muffler to the Y split is part of the stock exhaust. The only new piping he used was the Y pipe to the tips.
  9. Well I spoke to several different people about that specifically two muffler techs from different companies and they both said there is really no gains in increasing pipe size from 2.25 to 3.0. The sound will not be much more noticeable nor will there be any performance gains. The main reason I got this deal was he is a member of the Chamber of Commerce that I am the President of, so that helped.

    Cat Back

I am curious about something. I just had a custom CAT system made by a local muffler tech with a magnaflow muffler. He installed the muffler where the resonator used to be, removed the resonator and ran a singl pip up to the rear axle and then Y'd it off. I wonder if there is a different between what I had done and what you have here with the muffler at the end?
  11. I just got a Magnaflow custom CAT system installed on my 08 SEL today. I already posted pics but have to do video / audio tomorrow. See my thread on Magnaflow Custom CAT and view the install pics. Part# 11132
  12. Sorry, forgot the part number. Magnaflow Part # 11132
  13. ok, here are 3 pics of the installation done about 2 hours ago. Will have to add audio another time, I don't have that capability on my phone.
  14. Attention, Attention. I know I said that removing the resonator was sufficient, but I must admit I got greedy. I just got back from having a local muffler technician make me a custom CAT system with a Magnaflow muffler. The sound is unbelievable. Will post pics and audio / video ASAP. I can tell a slight gain in torque and a little in hp around the 3k rpm range. He was able to use the existing stock pipe instead of enlarging the pipe to 3' or so. The muffler was placed in the position where the resonator was directly beneath the seating area and then he made a y pipe at the end and was able to keep the stock tips. Materials including labor cost me a whopping $128 plus tax. Very Very well worth the money. From what I heard of the clips of the Gibson and FM Delta series, I got much more bang for my buck.
  15. I wish I can say it did add horsepower and / or torque but honestly I can not tell. I believe this is going to be a sound modification only! The best description I can give is like in my original post. It very much sounds like an Infinit FX35 (Not 45). My next door neighbor has one and is extremely similar, especially at 2-4k rmp and start up. Not much noticeable difference at idle unless the engine is cold.
  16. Under car photos may be a bit difficult but will try, but I can certainly do a video, will post this afternoon. All he did was torch it off and repipe, did a good job and very clean. Inside the car I can tell a difference, mainly at acceleration not so much at idle unless the windows are down. No irritating resonance however, just a little more throaty!
  17. I recently purchased a 2008 Edge SEL in September of 2008 and have read multiple posts on exhaust upgrades and customization. I have been hesitant to fully customize (Cat system) for various reasons, but mainly expense and sound quality. I spoke to a local muffler technician and he recommended I remove the resonator and see how that sounds. Well for $25 I figured why not? I must say the results are VERY pleasing. At immediate start up the tone sounded extremely similar to a Infiniti FX35 (Not 45, that would be impossible), I know because my neighbor has one. There is not much difference at idle unless you get close but the interior sound is I must say nice. NOT ricey, Not muscular but just a nice tone. If you are looking for a little more tone and don't want the expense of a CAT system or are just unsure have the resonator cut off. I think you will be pleasantly surprise. I am!
  18. I have a feeling (correct me if I am wrong) that the point here is adding noise or change of sound is strictly owner preference. When I change my exhaust, it will not be done because I want others to hear it, it is becuase I want to hear a different and better exhaust tone.
  19. I wonder what muffler only would sound like and if it would be worth it. Also, what about the manufacturer warrant. I assume this addition completed voided it!
  20. Forgive me for saying this but is this the same car? In the 3rd pick the tips look like the rectangular outlet, but the 4th pick looks like the stock oval outlet. Am I missing something?
  21. maybe it is just the picture but the one that shows the light on the road does not look like true HID, actually looks like the halogen tinted bulb lighting. True HID should have much side and straight ahead coverage than that. Generally McCullough is a great brand but again, maybe it is just the pic
  22. Assuming this was a muffler only installation and not a full exhaust system overhaul, wouldn't just the muffler void the factory warranty? I actually think the Gibson sounded much better then the Flow, just my two cents.
  23. I noticed this on my 08 SEL, all I did was lower the seat back a little bit and it stops. If it is too upright it will do it everytime, my wife likes sitting straight up. If you just move it back a few notches it will stop.
  24. I have them on ebay now for $1200 reserve.
