  1. Well I resolved the towing issues today. Dealer gave me more than we paid for the ST 15 months ago and 2K off MRSP on this F150. I guy really needs a pickup truck! It has the 12" sync 4 screen, co-pilot 360, 10speed with the 2.7L 325/400 and many other things the Edge did not have including more conformable seats. Quieter and smoother on the road.

If I were you, I would definitely drain & replace the PTU & Transmission fluids, maybe even the RDU. Getting 11.6 mpg driving 62-64 mph over 1000 miles means your Edge was really working hard.

I averaged 17.5+ at 68 MPH on a 1450 mile trip for Arizona to Washington last month. I think this is more in line with Ford's intended towing for the Edge.

Thank you for sending this.  My Ford ST already has a class 2 towing package on with the 4 pin connector.  I need to rewire it with 4 pin to 7 pin so I can use electric brakes on the camper.  I have already bought that kit off amazon.

My main concern is towing a 3200 lb camper.  I don't want to exceed my tongue capacity or damage my vehicle. Any help would be great?

    Thanks,

So I tow my Can Am Spyder from Arizona to Washington on an open trailer 3 weeks ago and it did just fine. When I get back to  Arizona I have a Kawasaki KRX 1000 waiting for me. It is going to be heavier and I think I will install electric brakes on the trailer. Could you give me a run down on the brake controller you are using and the wiring that you had to do? Thanks Chris

  4. Depending on when I was built, make sure it has had the transmission software update.

That video is not true. You only disable the BMS if that's how you program the car...  If you don't know what you are doing, sure that's when undesirable things happen.  But as someone who understands how vehicle systems and communication works, plugging a random device into my car's network is the last thing I would ever do.  Having some random programmer send broadcast messages startup is how you confuse the car and have "odd" behaviors - properly disabling the stop/start features via FORScan or UCDS is not the 'wrong way'.

Do your research everyone, don't believe what one out-of-touch shop says.

The Auto Stop button is NOT a can bus device. I installed the Auto Stop Eliminator a while back and love it. I had an issue after they tried to reflash my trailer module for the running lights coming/staying on when the vehicle was off. So I contacted them and here is their answer.

    Hi Chris,

I'm sorry to hear about the issue with the Edge.

No, I'm confident our device is not related to these issues. The AE003 is a simple analog device, not a CAN device.

When you press the auto start/stop button on your vehicle, it mechanically touches a signal wire with 12v to a ground wire. The signal wire goes from 12v to ground to tell the vehicle to toggle the auto start/stop. Our device just does the same thing. It takes the signal wire and momentarily connects it to ground to toggle the start/stop. If start/stop isn't toggling, then the device isn't actively doing anything.

It sounds like the tech missed a step that is causing the U2100 code (Initial Configuration Not Complete). Anytime this code is present, the start/stop will be disabled. It's how these vehicles are programmed and has nothing to do with our device. This is why when the device was removed, nothing changed.

  6. Well, it is not the Auto Stop Eliminator causing the issues. Here is the response I received back from Auto Stop.:

So with the Auto Stop removed I spent the morning back at the dealers. They said the U2100 is still present, and asked for more time to disconnect the battery and wait 20 minutes and then try to flash the trailer module again. RESULT, now has a different code! They left todays ticket open and are contacting Ford again. They think Ford will say replace the Trailer Module.

    Stay tuned. Chris
  7. Well it appears that the Auto Stop Eliminator caused an issue after the trailering module update. Tech got a U2100 code after update that he could not clear and now auto stop does not work. Sort of a yeah! I removed the module and it still is screwed up.  The Trailer lights do not come on with the vehicle off, so we got something right. They were waiting for a reply from the Ford hotline. I have the vehicle back.

  8. Took the ST in for the rear camera recall and the service bulletin on trailer running lights staying on. The service writer was looking the SUV over and even opened the hood. He saw the catch can and said that is a good idea to install that! I release the auto stop button so they would not know that I have the inline module install to the button. Chris

  9. While reading the manual learning how to do the global windows, I found the programming steps to set the FOBs to the seat positions, which the dealer electronics checkout guy failed to show us. You turn the can on without starting, then hold the seat position button of the door for the FOB you want programmed to that seat position, after the second tone/beep press the FOBs lock button within 3 seconds. Now that FOB or opening the drivers door while carrying that FOB will set your seat position. Up to three FOBs can be set to the three buttons on the door.

On our RAM the two FOBs were preset to the two memory seat positions, it also remembered mirror, radio and HVAC setting for each FOB.

Guess I will have to spend so time in the owners manual and see what else I have missed.

If you or wife would ever enjoy using the paddle shifters in the Sport mode to manually shift through the gears from 1to 8, then you should definitely try it on both cars before making your decision.  The 2019/2020 transmission, at least  mine and several others that I know of, have a problem which will not allow acceptable shifts using the paddles in the Sport mode.  When trying to shift you experience bucks, skipped gears and flares.  I had my dealer try a brand new 2020 on his lot and it exhibited the same problem.  Ford is trying to hide the problem and will not even discuss it. If I contact Customer Service I am told to contact the dealer service department.  When I contact the dealer service department they know little or nothing about the ST.  The ST Supplement to the Edge Owner's Manual says to contact the Performance Center for questions or concerns.  When I contact the Performance  Center they have no knowledge or experience with the Edge ST.  When I bugged the Performance Center to ask Engineering about the intended use of the paddles and why there were no instructions.  They avoided my question.  It seems ridiculous that a performance enhancement can not be effectively used on Performance Group's "ST" vehicle and that no one will admit to it or discuss it?

If  you never intend to use the paddles in the Sport mode then the 2019/2020 is a great car once the transmission TSBs are flashed,  if not already done.  BTW, I have heard that they fixed the issue on the 2021. They made it a 7-speed.  Can anyone confirm?

A lot of shifting issues were fixed last June with an updated firmware flash.

  11. The cluster is the biggest disappoint I have with our 2020 ST. Their engineers should be sent out to rent FCA products with their 8.4" uconnect and 7" EVIC (AKA cluster) that one can taylor to their likely. On the RAM we just sold I had to virtual gauges, one from boost and one for exhaust brake HP. Had a whole list of things I could put their like transmission temps etc. There was an area in the four corners where you could put things. Sample attached. The boost and tranny temps are virtual gauges. When in Nav on the center stack was running then a lane selection color mini map/drawing would show up on this display pictured when switch from one interstate to another.

  12. I just got to test the anti-lock brakes on our ST. I was on Baseline heading West from Ironwood. At Meridian a car made a left turn in front of me just as I was about to entry the intersection. Looked the mirror to see if I missed a stop sign, nope! Went from 45 to almost a stop in a very short distance, with a slight chirp out of the tires. This was a full on size 13 shoe hitting the brake pedal as hard as I could. If I would have been driving a beater I would have hit the car.

  13. I think at the Ford ST Experience event one gets to test this out. "Guided scenic mountain drive from Hyatt Centric to Soldier Hollow Nordic Center which will allow you to experience the handling, paddle shifts, and RPM hold capability.  At Soldier Hollow participants will perform exercises in a skid car to learn how to control oversteer and understeer, experience the accident avoidance capabilities of Ford Co-Pilot360™ and push the vehicle to its dynamic limits (Autocross)."

You know what they say about guys who answer their own postings, don't you?

Edit: their smart, great looking, manily and hung.

OH darn, I hope to meet such a guy some day.  At 76 my skin is getting thin and I am on Warfarin, so I bleed like a stuffed pig.

I realize that this is an old post but last time i saw it, i still had my '16. now that i too have a 2020 ST, i can comment on your problem.

my 2020 ST gets the instructions on the right hand display of the instrument cluster. i assume you're not seeing phone, entertainment, and navigation at the top level of the menus.

i use google maps as well and i was happily surprised to see the instructions for auto android nav and not just the built-in nav.

    I have Sync 3 v3.4 Build 20136_PRODUCT

let us know if your problem was ever resolved.

Does your ST have factory NAV to links to the EVIC display, and maybe is allowing Google maps to take the path to the right side of EVIC?
