Hello folks!
My 2012 Ford Edge SEL 2.0 (~110k miles) developed a sudden loud exhaust leak today. The catalytic converter is detaching from the pipe at the rear. It may have been developing but did not make any noticeable sound until today. I have a few questions. The car was used when I bought it.
Is this a proper catalytic converter installation? It seems to hang low and all the mountings aren't used.
Is the heat shield missing? I could not find a similar looking wire mesh application.
The leak is directly behind the catalytic converter, before any pipe. You can see the separation and black soot in the photo. Is this something that can be repaired or welded without replacing the cat?
