  1. I did try to search the forum for this but could not find it. Hopefully someone here could use this information. I was trying to install a dashcam into my 2012 Edge. It has a "parking" mode like many dashcams do, so I wanted a power source that was switched. Obviously, a power port would not do. So, I decided to tap into the fuse panel, which uses low-profile mini (LP-Mini) fuses. After looking for unused fuses in the panel and using a test light to determine which ones are switched, I decided to use port 38. Went ahead and got myself a LP-Mini fuse tap. That's when I discovered (as probably already known to many on here) that the fuses are recessed into the panel so that a LP-Mini fuse tap will not reach the contacts. Couldn't figure out what to do for awhile, but then I discovered I had some standard Mini fuses in my toolbox and decided to see how they compared to LP-Mini. Turns out, the blades of the fuses are about the same width and length. The only difference is the fuse is deeper overall. So, I bought a standard Mini fuse tap. Worked perfectly. I cannot reinstall the fuse panel cover, but that's no big deal to me. Hope this helps someone. (And if this tip is already on the forum, please accept my profound apologies.)
