  1. Got them today at a Buick dealer. $18.00.
  2. Michelin for me, every time. Get the wrong brand and you'll have a noisy ride. Never been unhappy with Michelins. Latitudes are what is on my 08 FWD. Been fine in the snow.
  3. My Edge came with the 'towing package', with 1.25" receiver and 4 pin connector. To make it a real tow vehicle: Installer had to: cut off factory hitch, install new 2" hitch with 6-pin connector, install electronic brake controller, rewire connector and add wiring (at least one new wire from the tail light) for brake controller. What I DON'T like with the 2" receiver is poor ground clearance - 11". Would like to raise rear end 1-2". Not a lot, but it will make a big difference when off-road or towing. Motorcycle carrier drags bad. Coil springs, I think. Can you buy a spacer? I don't know what I'm talking about on this subject. See photos.
  4. Read this carefully. It has saved my ass many times. Do NOT adjust your mirrors so you can see the side of your vehicle from driving position!!! Read the article. Look at the diagrams. http://www.hanselman.com/blog/HowToAdjustY...d3Monitors.aspx
  5. Roofbars have 2 allen head screws at each end. 8 screws total. 30 minutes to install. I want them on and off frequently, so I substituted metric bolts (3/4" 6mm I think). Now, 5 mins off/on with socket wrench. (Moon roof no work with cross bars)
  6. Read the manual about O/D. Downhill (NOT in O/D), hit the brakes, it will auto downshift. Not as good as manual, but I'm getting used to it.
  7. Yes, I HAVE READ all previous posts. I grilled my dealer (before purchase) for more than an hour about towing capacity. The Edge is not designed as a 'tow vehicle' like most Ford trucks are. It is a Mazda 6 with a Ford body. But, I did not want a truck. Finally I believed the salesman, manager and the brochure about the 3,500 capacity. The wimpy factory hitch? I don't think they had ever seen an Edge with a 2" receiver hitch. So, I bought a lightly used 2008 Edge, with a need to tow a 2,500 lb camper. Next stop - a 2" receiver. Easy, I thought. Went to UHaul first, they gave me zero confidence in them doing ANYTHING to my vehicle. This was the biggest UHaul in Colorado Springs. Just on a whim, went to my local (quality) RV dealer. Asked about hitches and the service guy was an immediate pro about my car and what to do. He and his install mech went out to the car with me, got under it, removed the left tail light cover, checked the wiring with a meter and explained what would be required. Estimated $300-400. Went back inside the RV dealer's shop, looked in catalog, ordered 2" receiver hitch (Reese $175), and signed up for the installation. Three days later (hitch took two days for delivery) I had a 2" hitch and an electronic brake ready to test for $666 total. That's right. Buy an Edge with towing package, add $700 to tow your camper! Was I upset at the extra money? Of course. My Edge came with the 'towing package', with 1.25" receiver and 4 pin connecter. To make it a real tow vehicle: Installer had to: cut off factory hitch, install new hitch with 6-pin connector, install electronic brake controller, rewire connector and add wiring (at least one new wire from the tail light) for brake controller. Took them from 9AM to 4PM to get it all done. Several phone calls to me to explain the next problem (mostly cutting off the factory hitch). Keep in mind: Edge factory towing package is essential, read about 'heavy duty' engine parts at Ford. My Take: RV dealers are expert with hitches and brake control hook-ups - they NEED to be in order to sell campers. They have the people who can do it right. Yes, I paid a lot. My priority when towing is not to worry about ANYTHING going wrong. Being in charge of two vehicles totaling 7,000 pounds (with a hinge point in the middle) at 60 mph is enough to worry about. Colorado cross winds can be 50-60 mph, not unusual at all. Try that while towing a 13' tall slab sided camper! Plus, if the hitch or trailer brakes fail, I'll have somebody to sue. What I DON'T like with the 2" receiver is poor ground clearance - 11". Looking for a way to raise back end 1-2". Any ideas? See photos.

My edge did have trailer package, 1" receiver. Had to cut off factory hitch. Took all day. Factory trailer package is essential, read about 'heavy duty' engine parts at Ford. 9. I agree w the Crutchfield recommendation. They are a little more expensive than your local Best Buy, but..... They know what will work (and what won't) and they'll ship it ASAP and you get a card for local installation (extra $). My last car I put in radio w XM and the radio was great, the parts they sent to make it fit worked perfectly and the local installer I would have never found by myself did a really good job. Done in 1.5 hours - take the dash apart, install XM receiver and antenna, connect wires, etc. It was a big job, I watched the whole thing. Never once had a problem in 2 years.
  10. I bought an Edge two weeks ago. After months of looking and comparing, this Edge was my choice, I bought it and so far, WOW! Smooth, quiet, comfortable, good dash/ tech, and still looks better than all other SUVs (except for $80K Porsche). It’s as good as every other car I’ve owned (except for the two Jags) BUT: Let me test it for a year and see if I still love to get in it and drive every day. $40,000 was my max so no high-end cars. Plus didn’t want to be driving a ‘big money’ car in bad times. Other vehicles tested before I chose the Ford (had to be able to tow, get reasonable mileage, look good, have ALL the tech stuff and be comfortable to drive on marathon trips): • Jeep Cherokee Limited (couldn’t make a deal, too expensive, bad mileage) • Nissan Xterra SE (almost bought another one, it is a great go-anywhere vehicle) • Toyota Versa (towing no good, too expensive) (nicest of the cars I looked at) • Subaru Tribeca (engine too small, towing no good) • Mazda CX-7 and CX-9 (towing no good) The Ford dealer made me a great deal, including trade-in allowance. Car was last year’s model and a demo. When I got up to walk out, ‘to go home and decide’, manager took another $2K off and upped trade-in allowance. I sat back down and signed his contract. So far, so good. One major issue: the service dept is STILL the way it was at American dealers 20 years ago. They haven’t figured out how to do what we all want. And they still have employees who are ‘fast food’ quality. And they are not fully computerized!? Arrive for scheduled service, you’re not in the computer. Paper service orders! What? I made an appointment, and they can’t find me. Who did you make an appointment with?, is their question. Finally, someone comes to help and they drive your car off to be fixed. Now, wait to get a loaner. Sit down, nobody comes over to keep you informed. Just like the old days, you have to get up after 30 mins of total boredom and start asking ‘where’s my loaner?’ When your name is called (who calls your name except cheap restaurants?), you don’t complain, you’re just happy you’re ahead of the other suckerz still ‘waiting’. It’s fixed, go to pick it up. Here we go again! They’re late and don’t know you, and when they do find you and the car, you get in expecting a clean car at least on the inside - and there is grease on the driver armrest! And they didn’t quite get all the things done. And no car wash. And the same doofus employees. Aarrgh. It is a trip back in time at the Ford service department. Japanese/ Swedish/ German service, YOU know what we want. I was totally spoiled for the last five cars. Oh well.
