I did pull the drive shaft and the axle shafts on the RDU, left the RDU unit installed, electrical connection connected, everything seems to be working just fine, no warning lights on the dash, I basically have a front wheel drive now. Hope the PTU stays good I change fluid every 15,000. I hated to do it but since ford is building junk these days and not backing their product i guess i had no choice, after buying a brand new RDU from ford and it goes bad in one year and eight months, definitely not any different than the Chinese junk

I’m back on this old thread from February 23 after replacing that brand new RDU and change an oil every 15,000 miles I changed it this week again all kinds of metal shavings and noises coming from it contacted the dealer since buying new and only having 45,000 miles put on it, they said sorry Only one year warranty so now I’m back deciding to buy another one from China. Definitely not buying a new from Ford Sterling axle garbage or to try to totally delete or bypass the rear RDU if anybody reads this has anybody bypassed this by removing the dry shaft and the axles to the tires

Some useful info here but I'm guessing no one ever figured out how to enter the new axle code into the computer with FORScan? I am replacing this with a new one (that's on back order thru Ford) it's a easy job just concerned about the reprogramming part, if anyone has found any steps to do it through Forscan, please help. My 2016 Ford Edge also needs a new diff at 101,000miles, no it did not EVER go thru deep water and I change the oil in it every 30,000 miles.
