  1. What weight distributing hitch are you using? I called the Curt dealer that I bought the hitch from and they said it wasn't possible to use one with the Edge? Thanks! Jeff
  2. I have a 2008 Limited with 20" wheels & sport suspension and am towing a 2010 Rockwood 2514G pop-up GVWR of 3300lbs on a Curt Class III hitch. The rear end of the Edge is sagging a lot more than with the 2008 Forest River pop-up we had which had a GVWR of 2800lbs so I've been looking for options since the Curt isn't weight distributive capable. I found a company called AIR LIFT that sells a kit (60819) that looks like iyt will help to level the load when trailering and can be zeroed out for normal use. I was hoping someone else may have some experience and could offer up some advice. I've listed the link below for the Air Lift 1000 kit. http://shop.airliftcompany.cust.shopatron.com/product/295921/60819/_/Air_Lift_1000%3B_Coil_Spring Thanks! Jeff
  3. Thanks for the input - I actually went with a Curt hitch last year and could not be happier. I also lucked out in that a small donation of bagels and coffee = free install of the hitch while they were bored at my dealership :-) Who said barter was dead???
  4. Well the overall silence regarding my U-Haul question was deafening so I ended up searching eBay for my hitch. There is a dealer in Springfield, MA selling the Curt hitch for $157 shipped UPS ground so I grabbed one. My Ford dealer (been going there for almost 20 years now) installed the hitch for free - always bring coffee and donuts to the body shop guys! We pickup our new to us 2008 Flagstaff 208 pop-up camper on Thursday. I was able to get the RV dealer to install the trailer wiring and brake controller for $182 and that's with a "T" connector kit not splicing into the wiring harness. I'm sure the'll run the power under the car to the battery compartment but I'm OK with that. Jeff G
  5. Thanks for the input PSUFetch, I was really hoping to hear someone had UHaul do their hitch and the job was excellent so I wouldn't have to be the Guinnea pig :-) The hitch itself is $149 and they stated the whole thing installed would be $199 plus sales tax. So I figure for $50 they can do the job if they're competent and don't hack my Edge apart... Jeff G
  6. I bought a leftover 2008 Edge limited with the Sport suspension upgrade (20" wheels and all). I would like to get a camper for the family since the kids are old enough now to enjoy camping but just don't have the time/tools to install a hitch myself. We have a pretty good UHaul center here in the Albany, Ny area and they've quoted me $200 for a Class III hitch installed. I see the majority of folks here use the Curt hitches and for the most part have done the install themselves, but as stated it's just not in the cards for me. Has anyone had UHaul install one of their hitches on the Edge? If so how good was the install (cutting, drilling necessary or was it bolt on)? What price did you pay? Are you happy with the job overall? I've searched the threads for U-Haul and Uhaul and have looked through a ton of information but only found one true reference to UHaul and it didn't sound pretty... Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Jeff G Schenectady, NY
  7. Well I can't wait, I take delivery of my brand spankin new 2008 Edge Limited AWD in Vapor Silver next Friday morning!!! I really love the look of the black paint, but here in New York it doesn't seem to stay clean very long. I checked with my other local Ford dealers to comparison shop the 7 year/100k mile warranty and looks like I can't do any better than the $1590 I've been quote. Jeff G
  8. So did you take the plunge and install these units yet? Would love to hear about it and see some photos...
  9. As much as i would like the black (ugggh) I think that the Vapor Silver makes the best all around sense - I have a 5 year old son and a 10 year old daughter so time is NOT always on my side... The body shop manager at my local Ford dealer was the one who said that it "seems" like the black paint never really cures as that's why it appears softer than other paints. That was their opinion only and I have a great relationship with them - almost 17 years (OMG am I that old?). I really appreciate all the informative feedback you folks have provided - this is awesome! Jeff G Side note: I was looking for a argo area cover and found this one which is listed as a genuine Ford accessory - is it sold piece or some sort or flimsy unit? I need one in black but didn't see it listed. http://www.partscheap.com/Ford_Edge_Cargo_...-7845440-aa.htm
  10. Thanks for the information on the paint. I don't have a lot of experience in car detailing to be honest, so it may make more sense for me to get the vapor silver although I do love the Edge in black... I've never owned a black car either. In regards to the price, right now Ford is offering two different rebates on 2008 leftovers here in upstate New York. $3500 + $2000 so the dealer has kicked in another $2660 in additional discounts to make the final price $30500. Jeff
  11. Hi everyone! I have to say this forum has been very helpful making my decision for a new car. I do have one burning question about the quality and the maintenance of a black paint edge versus the vapor silver. My local dealer has one of each in a 2008 leftover and personally I like the looks of the black paint over the vapor silver but have been told that the black paint doesn't hide damage as well and never quite cures to a super hard finish... Any insight on this? The deal that I'm getting is a 2008 limited with the following options: Navigation Power lift gate BAMR (yes i've actually read the posts!) Interior appearance package 20" wheels/sport suspension All weather mats Sticker was $38,660 I got it for $30,500 (new not demo) I also opted for a 7 year/100,000 Premium Care warranty for $1590. How did I do??? I can change from the vapor silver to black tomorrow if it makes sense since they're both the same price... Any and all feedback would be appreciated and I look forward to many good posts on the forum! Jeff Guntert Schenectady, NY
