  1. I recently had the same problem with my 2011. Mine was still covered under warranty. I don't know the cost, but I do know that the dealer had to take the inside door panel off to replace, and it took them 2-3 hours to do it. When I got the vehicle back, there was a big gap between the panel and the door, and I was not amused. I could stick my little finger in it. Drove a rental Nissan Rogue home that night while they tried again. It looks better now, but still isn't as snug as the other three doors.

  2. I had an 07 AWD with the Hankook tires, and traded it to a new 2011 FWD with the same tires. I haven't noticed any such issues either. I drove the FWD '11 in several snows last year, and didn't notice much more difficulty than I had in previous winters with the AWD. I've been very happy with the Hankooks.

  3. I have those same tires on our 07' FWD Ford Edge, and I don't exactly understand your problem. I think that being a FWD vehicle it is a quirk that you are experiencing that would be no different than driving any FWD vehicle -- even a Taurus. Naturally, the tires want to spin when the gas is pressed, and being FWD the powertrain is in the Front. This is exactly why many prefer or need AWD or RWD since with AWD the tires all spin the same. But, there is no happy medium since RWD vehicles are prown to fishtailing, and are harder to control. I would rather have the FWD problem because I drive a 2WD pick-up, and in inclement winter weather, it can be downright dangerous to drive.

  4. I have the same issue with my 2011. It has done it since day one. Starts clicking off with 3 - 4 gallons to go to completely fill the tank. Incredibly annoying. I just assumed they were all like this--if not, I am going to the dealer at once.

  5. I have a 2011 Edge SE FWD with 5,000 miles. I drive about 40 miles to work, part of which is through an area with several steep hills. If I am going downhill at 55-60 mph, and have to hit the brakes because a slower vehicle is in front of me, the transmission is shifting down one or two gears, which is forcing the RPMs up from 1,500 to 3,500. The transmission will not shift back up until the vehicle is on level ground again. My dealer says that this is "normal" and as long as the shifts are not rough, I should just ignore it. Does anyone else have this going on, and do you think it is normal? I don't see any logical reason for it to do this, and I find it worrisome.

  6. I think the Edge, both old and new, looks much more "masculine" than the Veracruz, Highlander, Equinox, Murano, Venza, etc. What's not for a guy to love? Good looking wheels, big 4 inch chrome exhaust tips, lots of electronic goodies, decent power. I would prefer an F-150, but in light of fuel prices, this guy is very happy with this Edge.

  7. Bought myself a Christmas present and traded my 2007 Edge SE to a 2011 SE in Bordeaux Reserve Red with Light Stone interior. I have put almost 1,000 miles on her in 2 weeks and think that the 2011 is light-years ahead of the previous models regarding interior quality and quietness. Seems like almost everyone on this sight has bought a limited or Sport, but this is my daily driver and I log a lot of miles with my job--couldn't see sinking $40,000 or more into a vehicle only to destroy it with high miles. For a sticker of $29,000.00 less X-plan and rebates, my SE has Sirius, automatic headlights, backup sensors, auto-dimming mirror, keyless-entry keypad, outside temp. display, compass, one-touch up window, etc. I'm averaging about 24.5 mpg mostly highway driving. I find the "base" stereo system and HVAC controls very user-friendly. Lovin' the Edge here in Kentucky!

  8. I would like opinions on FWD and snow as well. I have an 07 with AWD and am considering a 2011. AWD is an expensive option, which would delay my purchase for several months. I am wondering how much difference I will notice in 2 - 5 inches of snow with FWD only.....

  9. I have an 07 SE with AWD and both rear bearings developed a loud whine at about 45,000 miles and were replaced under powertrain warranty. Has been quiet ever since. I now have 67,000 miles and have not experienced the PTU leak issue. Air conditioner developed a leak at about 60,000 and cost $400 to repair. Have also had a lot of squeak and rattle issues. I am now considering upgrading to a 2011 and can't decide if I want AWD or FWD. If I had it to do over, I would not have bought an 07, would've gotten a later model instead.

  10. Test drove a 2011 SE today--just need a basic vehicle to drive to work. Can someone point me to a summary of what functions the base "MyFord" audio system has? Not the Touch Screen, but the base system with the 4.2 inch screen. Car salesman knew nothing about it. I remember seeing a button labeled "phone" and there is a numeric keypad to the right of the screen. Does this system do anything other than play the radio, CDs, and Sirius?

  11. Seat bottom. The more I have looked, I think it is something to do with the rails more than the cusion. I'm just going to live with it for a few more months, and then trade to a 2011. I bought this one used and think it has had some rough treatment. Looking forward to buying NEW and knowing where she's been from day one.

  12. 2007 SE AWD with manual cloth seats. The drivers seat is squeaking something terrible. Every time I get in or out, shift position, or stretch my back--Squeak! I love how the Edge drives, but frankly, this is driving me nuts! Passenger seat is totally quiet. Vehicle is out of warranty. I have been to two dealers, and have gotten the same story--all they can do is replace the seat with a new one, which will cost $100s after labor. Anyone have the same problem? Are there parts in the seat that could just be loose and need tightening? How does one remove the seat cover? Thanks.

  13. My wife and I have owned: 93 Ranger, 98 Ranger, 93 Explorer, 2000 Windstar, 2002 Windstar, 2004 Sport Trac, 2008 Taurus X. 2006 Fusion, and 2007 Edge. Almost NO problems from any of them. These sites by their very nature attract problem reports, but as already said, all the quality surveys out there have Ford looking very good right now. I think you will love your Edge if you purchase one. I would agree that the individual dealer relationship is a key to happiness.

  14. Why did I buy an Edge?

    1. I've owned a long series of Fords, and have never had any significant quality problems of any kind.

    2. Smooth ride.

    3. Comfortable seats.

    4. Mileage is almost as good as the last sedan I owned, and superior to prior SUVs.

    5. Powerful engine.

    6. Lots of back seat leg room.

    7. AWD is great in snow and rain.

    8. I drive a lot, and I feel very safe with the AWD, ABS,side air bags, etc.

    9. Handling feels very car-like to me, but with an SUVs ride-height.

    10. Was sold on the sporty looks the first time I saw one.

    11. Kids think its cool.

    12. Can play my MP-3 player through the stereo.

    12. "Blazing Copper" is my favorite color of all time.

  15. My wife has an 08 Taurus X, and this has happened to us as well, maybe 5 times in 2 years. Just driving down the road and suddenly the stereo shuts off. Press the power button and it's back on. It won't happen again for months. We asked the dealer and they couldn't explain it, but they offered to replace the unit if we want them to. We're approaching 36,000 miles and I'm not sure if I want them tearing into the dash or not for this. Also worried they may mess up our Sirius subscription if they switch radios.

  16. Hi KyEdge. :D Valve stems are a generic item that are not vehicle or even auto-manufacturer specific.

There was a widely publicized problem with defective valve stems (sourced from China). I believe it was early last year. While the problem was not Ford specific, Ford was one of many automakers to get a bunch of the defective valve stems. Ford sent out a letter to owners concerning how to inspect them and what to do if an owner had a problem with a cracked valve stem.

Check with your Dealer to see if this problem applied to your vehicle. Either way, you should certainly address this with the Dealer who installed the tires.
