I like the original MKX grill..... Maybe it's because I have a 2007

MKX.... I would have to see the entire auto to comment whether I like

    it or not....

What I can say is, I like it on the smaller MK? but not on the larger

    MK?

I'd prefer hearing that all the reviews and experts are saying that

the MKX brakes on the new MKX are on a par with all of the other

comparable CUVs (Lexus, Cadillac, Acura).... The reviews on the

2007/2008 brakes were terrible.......... I will say I have not had

    any problems .....

  2. I am considering buying a MKX limited. I have looked at everything from the Mercedes GLK, Volvo XC60, Audi Q5, BWM x3, Murano, Acura RD.

After months of 24 hr test drives and counting pennies it looks like a MKX which was added as an after thought on my list.

Just wanted to get peoples impressions with the MKX as mine were ones of suprise so it would be interesting to see how my thought process lines up.

    - GLK too small for the money but feels solid. Interior very cheap looking.

    - XC60 - dealerships not willing to really move on price, just say if you dont want it someone else will. Mileage one of the worst. Nice looking though.

    - X3 - last year for the current design, so not a good time to buy plus rough ride.

    - Q5 - add in options and becomes very expensive.

    - RD - rough ride and the 2.5 turbo makes a lot of noise

    - Murano - nice but too small and find it quirky looking

MKX - nice size. Engine revs a bit when flooring it compared to others. Road noise is very quiet. Nice trim, grill take it or leave it. Mileage is confusing. Broshure as for AWD 30 MPG (hiway), search internet, US Reviews say something like 22 MPG. Check FORD.CA, it says 30 MPG. I understand it may be less but what is the actual specs?

Only MKX and X3 had the full service piece for oil changes, brakes etc. Nice touch.

I can never figure out how to reply to these posts... So hopefully you see this reply re the MKX....

I have a 2007 MKX AWD. Two years later I am as satisfied now as when I bought it... That is, Extremely satisfied... Regarding mileage, not good in the city... On the highway with cruise control on and mostly using +/- to increase/decrease speed, the best I've done at 70/75 mph is 23.5 mpg per the guage... I will say, I swithched over to the MKX after many years of having Mercury Grand Marquis'.. The ride is very good especially around turns, not much lean. Takes bumps well.. It has a vey clean and uncluttered look outside and inside. Switches are easy to use. (I don't have the nav or the sunroof). Do have THX which is incredible.. You may think (at least in my 2007) that the seats might be a little firm... However, when you've driven for 2/3 hours consecutive you begin to realize how friendly these seats are to your back... Just be careful if they are still selling the light dashboard. The glare is terrible on the light dashboard.. Mine is darker gray. And that's fine.. Yes, it does seem like it's whining when you hit the gas hard... But during two years I've had no problems. And passing at higher speeds is not a problem... Hope this helps... Good luck with your ultimate choice....

  4. My Perfect MKX would be the Monodhrome version Fully loaded. As far as things I wiould really love to see FORD do for the MKX.

    Xenon/HID Lamps

Styling more set apart from edge.

The MKS Starter system (I would absolutely love remote start integrated into to this system).

Hybrid or mbigger engine, not sure which is more important.

    Back up camera.

The full bells and whistles Sync System. (I would love to see Front control of rear DVDs integrated into Sync)

    More Euro Style Wheels.

    ROOF RAILS WITH BAMR!!!!!

All the Nice extras that are in the MKS, like the smart Cruise control, the hidden keypad and all those goodies.

One of the selling points of the MKX is the lower cost vs the Lexus CUV series. Let's keep it that way. My extras/improvements are from a practical point of view (to keep the cost below the Lexus CUV). I have a one year old 2007 MKX. Have had no problems. Extremely satisfied with my AWD MKX.

    - Increase MPG/maintain reg gas (no need for a more powerful engine)

    - Brakes are fine but test results apparently say not as good other CUVs in same category. I think this hurt Lincoln when it counted the most, out of the gate. (Lincoln should do something about this)

    - Hand grip for passenger side

    - Much, much louder warning signal for backing up. No need for backup camera

    - Signal lights on outside rearview mirrors

    - Auto collapsible outside rearview mirrors

    - Digital readout for MPH somewhere on dash or windshield where it is "easily visible for the driver"

    - Include HD Radio as standard in the audio package (THX is terrific).

    - Silly little light for the glove compartment......

    - I personally prefer portable navigational equipment. Garmin, Tom-Tom, etc ....

    - Rear luggage cover (built in at the factory) not the over the rear seat add-on Lincoln offers - Ugh!!!

    - Integrated remote start would be nice

    - HID/Xenon - I won't win this argument but, ban it!!! (until it doesn't blind oncoming traffic). Under no circumstances should the MKX come with standard HID/Xenon lighting (until it doesn't blind oncoming traffic)

  5. I agree .... I have a 2007 MKX and I can barely hear the Reverse Sensing System.... Great idea.... Horrible execution.... I only have 3 minor complaints... Can't hear RSS.... No cover for luggage in the rear. No hand assist for the front passenger.... But, I really like this car (CUV).. Excellent ride, comfortable for all passengers. Folks who sit in the rear tell me how spacious it is.

THX sound system is terrific... Great around turns... Could be better on gas but, vs Lexus, Regular vs High... Acceleration is fine.... Brakes are fine (although there was very much discussion about the 2007 MKX brakes). I have the Continental tires .... I'm very satisfied with this auto.....

  6. New Owner of a 2008 Edge SE - Creme Brulee. So far I'm liking it very much (love is too strong a word this early in the relationship), however I have some nagging questions after my first afternoon driving her around.

    1) I have the Reverse Sensing System and I can BARELY hear it. I traded in an F150 Lariat that had the same system, and audible alerts were very audible beeps, that simply went nuts as you got closer (solid tone). As I tested the system on my new Edge, I slowly backed straight in a parking lot (very slowly), when the first beep came, I could barely hear it, not to mention the sound seemed to be coming from the rear of the vehicle, and not the dash. Is this typical? Is this something I should have the dealership look into? Could the volume level of the system be adjusted somewhere?

    2) The AC on the driver side is plain dismal. I'm in hot hot NC, and we're in the 90's daily with humidity topping the charts. When you get in the car you want that air blowing directly on your face. I can't seem to get the driver vents to hit me at all? Not to mention the strength of the airflow on high doesn't seem to compare to the passenger side vents. I saw an earlier post on this, but only one person seemed to agree with the poster. Certainly there are some owners on this board living in the hot states that could vouch that this is indeed a 'feature' of the Edge versus an anomaly.

Any help on these 2 issues would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to know if I should be hitting up my dealer on these issues.

  7. I took delivery on my 07' Edge 3 days ago- As I was picking it up the dealer tells me he only has 1 key & if I want an extra one I have to pay $185!!!

WHAT??????? Are they kidding me??? A multi million dollar company cant absorb the price of a key for their customer??

I have purchased an 05 Mustang GT, an 06 Mustang GT, an 06 F150 Lariat and now an 07 Edge- I have given Ford a boat load of my business in the last 3- 1/2 years. If I dont get a key with this car, I will never spend another cent with Ford.

How can you leave out that detail when your selling a vehicle?? That I need to pay for a 2nd key??? Seriously,....I just gave them $23500 and they cant pay for a key to be made??? Im livid right now. They pretty much told me to take a hike & wont even take my phone calls. I have called the BBB and NY attourney general & plan on filing HUGE complaints.

If you live in the NY/Long Island area, do not buy a vehicle from Stevens or Smithtown Ford. They are real unprofessional and do not care about their customers after your seat is in the car-

I have an Edge SEL and a MKX, both with premium Packages. The seats in the MKX are far superior for ride comfort, with the added bonus of heating and cooling. I have leather in the SEL with the heated seat option and 6 way power. After 30 minutes or more, it feels like the cushioning has bottomed out in the Edge and I find it less comfortable. It starts out softer than the MKX but ends up harder.

I'm sure there are a lot of factors that go into seat comfort because there are a lot of different "Frames" that have to sit on them. I'm 200+ lbs at 6'1". My wife, at 125 Lbs and 5'4", does not have any problem with the SEL seats.

If I had not ridden in the MKX, I probably would not have noticed the difference as much. I will look at a cushion device before I take a two day trip in the Edge (or better yet, just take the MKX).

If I drove the Edge for any distance every day, I would consider a cushion or lambs wool seat covers - (yeah, I know - tacky), or go to a trim shop and see if they can insert a layer of memory foam or something else to prevent the cushion for bottoming out under my tonage.

I have a 2007 MKX and was initially very concerned that the seats were very firm. But I liked the CUV very much and bought it (with heated/cooled seats).... Have since realized that the firm seats work to your benefit on longer trips. I realized this after driving for two hours on a parkway. At the end of the trip I stepped out of the CUV without pain and I didn't feel stiff... I have a bad back so it's not like I'm in the best of shape and I am very far from being young ....

  10. In response to Grey:

I posted this on the MKX Forum about a month ago... I'm curious what you think about gas mileage and the MKX seats after a long trip.... Here's hoping you both enjoy your Edge & MKX to the max ....

My MKX w/AWD: 2 hours Parkway driving at approx average of 70mph with cruise control on about 1/4 of the time... Approx 21.5 mpg... My 2004 Grand Marquis (v8/224hp) for the same stretch/same driving habits, 24 - 24.5mpg .. Oh well... Still love this CUV... Best decision I've made in a long time ... And, remember, all other competitor CUVs (I'm thinking Lexus 350, Pacifica and Murano) use premium gas .... And by the way... The longer the trip and more time you spend in the seat the more you realize the firmness of the "seating area" works to your benefit physically. The body remains loose not feeling like you're tied up in a knot at he end of the ride.. Don't be put off by the firmness of the "seating area"... Just a reminder.. It's not the entire seat that is firm. The bolsters around the seating area are soft and very comfortable...
