Hello all, 2020 Edge 2.0 Ecoboost SEL AWD While passing some trucks on the freeway, on boost, the wrench light comes on. Stop for coffee, start back up and the wrench is gone, but the CEL is on. Back to the freeway, power way down, cruise control doesn't work. Finish my trip, go home and Forscan (using that to try and figure out the low speed surging issue, unsuccessfully so far) shows two codes: P0243 Supercharger Wastegate Actuator 'A' Status (-68) P0299 Turbo/Supercharger 'A' Underboost Condition Status (EB) In to the dealer, who said the problem was the 'wastegate solenoid'. It would be covered under the powertrain warranty. There was a two week wait for the part to come in. I asked if I could have the part after they installed the new one and was told 'No, we have to send the part back to Ford', but you can look at it in the parts department after the repair. While waiting, I tried to look up the part just to see what it looks like, how much an aftermarket part would have cost, etc. Everything I found showed a part that looks a lot like one of the hundreds of other sensors on this engine, with some vacuum hoses sticking out and an electrical connection. Okay, two weeks later I bring the car in, get a loaner, come back later that day, and ask to see the broken part. The lazy POS behind the parts counter started giving me a bunch of BS about having no way to find it, needed a number, blah blah. Another guy, sitting two chairs away, said he would handle it. In 60 seconds, he looked at the computer, got up and went straight to the shelves, and came back with a box and some parts: That, along with the arm that connects it to the wastegate and some nuts and/or bolts. At first I did not believe that was the part from my car, which led me to wonder whether they did anything at all, and just cleared out the codes in the PCM. But I climbed under the car and sure enough, I could (just barely) see a new version of that part on my engine. It appears my engine has parts from the 2021+ Lincoln Nautilus: Okay, whatever. So my car (original window sticker mentions a twin-scroll turbo) has a motor controlled wastegate rather that the vacuum operated one. The build date on my car is December 2020 (yeah I know, Covid car) and it was built on the same line as the Nautilus, so maybe it makes some sense it has some 2021 Lincoln parts on it. But now I'm left with more unanswered questions: Does the PCM in my Edge -know- it is controlling parts from a Nautilus? Is there special software for one or the other? Are the folks at Ford dealer service dept. up to the task of keeping track of all this? Could the mixup be causing the surging and/or schizo shifting issues? The only thing I know for sure is, if you have a modern car and don't have an extended warranty (a good one if there is such a thing), you are so screwed.

Does anyone know if anybody else has posted Forscan (or other software) data showing the actual runtime voltages from the DPFE sensor? I have read the diagnostic procedures posted here and elsewhere and those check out for me, but I'm still trying to figure out if both my original sensor and new one are wonky, or if there is possibly something wrong with the wiring on my vehicle. That signal just looks so noisy to me. I have registered over on the Ranger 5G site to try and get any info those folks might provide. I'll post anything I find that appears as though it could possibly help us, (unless they shun me for driving a lowly Edge, and not a manly truck )

Yeah, Biker, it was your posts that convinced me to try the new DPFE. Wish that would have fixed it. My Edge doesn't seem to care if it is cold or hot, it just always runs crappy under light accel. I'm pretty doggone sure disconnecting the EGR valve made a difference. I'll try that test again next chance I get. That threw a code, of course, but I was able to reset it with Forscan. Before I reset that DTC, but -after- I reconnected the EGR, I drove it around a little with the check engine light on. The tugging was back, but maybe different?, not sure. Does anybody know if the PCM changes it's behaviors just because the light is on, even when the condition causing the light has been corrected but not yet reset? This car is so incredibly frustrating. It is really nice, looks good, comfortable, gets way better mileage than my Nissan Frontier did, cruises down the highway like a dream, but does nothing but p*ss me off when driving around town. And now also, there is the worry that the transmission or torque converter is going to fail. Even in the miraculous case where it fails under warranty, I have little faith in the underpaid serfs at the Ford 'service' garage, you know, the ones telling me 'No codes, no problem'. I'd really like to get away from all this over-tec-d emission controls rats nest, and 20 speed trans absurdities. My next one will be all electric. But until they get -that- stuff sorted out, I guess I'll just keep testing and tweaking.

Here is the data from the road test with EGR valve disconnected. Are there any Forscan gurus on this site? I would like to be able to export the data logs in CSV format, but I don't see how to set that up in the program. Alternatively, if anyone knows the format Forscan uses (.fsl?), I could probably write a Python script to convert the data.

Hello, First time post here other than the (test), but I've been reading various posts on this site for a while now. Recently purchased a 2020 Edge SEL Awd. Very good condition, very low miles (15k). Dealer gave me the old 'Previously owned by an elderly couple, rarely drove it, etc, etc'. Maybe that's actually true and the mileage is correct, or maybe somebody has figured out how to modify the modern odometers, I don't know. But the car is pretty darn cherry, has tires with period correct DOT stamps, the pedals don't look at all worn. So who knows. The dealer did give me the Ford Certified Extended Warranty, but that is turning out to have questionable value. Anyway, after watching for a few weeks while the snow (Erie, PA) piled up around, and almost completely covered the vehicle, the weather broke and I finally got around to actually driving it some. And discovered it has the 'surge', and 'hesitation' issues described here and elsewhere. The term 'Bucking' seems a little extreme to me, it does not slam any shifts, up or down. The car idles perfectly, has pretty darn good acceleration when asked, and seems to cruise well. Getting 27-29 mpg on the highway. But, holy crap, mild acceleration up through gears 1,2,and 3 just make this old musclecar tuner cringe. Not really a dead miss, doesn't really feel like driveline slippage. I read someone describe it as a 'tugging'. That seems like a good description. So, from reading posts elsewhere on this site, and one of the Ranger sites where a bunch of folks seem to have similar problems, I bought and installed a new DPFE sensor. Tried to psychologically trick myself into thinking that helped, but reality always wins, and I am forced to admit, it didn't help much, if at all. So, I bought an OBDII adapter, downloaded Forscan, and off we go. My first road test log was looking at some variables I thought might be relevant to either the EGR and/or Torque Converter hypotheses. The lower two traces are Torque Converter slip, Desired and actual. Can't say I understand what I am supposed to be seeing there. I have no idea why the DPFE and EGR signals chatter around like that. Looks really noisy to me. Anyway, anybody see anything worth investigating further? Thanks in advance. P.S. My next post will include data from a road test with the EGR valve disconnected.
