  1. While putting it in reverse the other day, I pushed the pedal pretty hard and heard a pretty loud "squeal". I noticed that it would do it no matter what gear, as long as I pushed it to the floor...see att'd video link. Anyone else have this?

turn up volume, it's much louder in person

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiSIxQBGzoc

Brake pedal swing arm pin at top or the pin at the brake booster rod point could be making the noise.

Yes we have also seen the brake light/cruise control switch sometimes will squeak.

It needs to be checked out.......hopefully its not the brake booster itself thats making the noise.

  2. OK, update to my previous thread about the block heater or lack thereof. I found and purchased a block heater from O'Reilly's autoparts store for 32 bucks. I have located the plug that requires removal to install the block heater but I must hunt down an allen wrench big enough to remove said plug (its a BIG plug). I am taking pictures as I perform this task since it seems no one has installed a block heater on an Edge and will post when completed.

    It can be done.

you will need to drain coolant and get two gaskets from Ford dealer.

parts 5F263 and 5E241 are gaskets for the right hand ( rear ) catalytic muffler.

you will have to remove the muffler to get to the block plug.

The correct parts for the block heater, cover and harness are:

    Block Heater 6A051

Cover to protect harness from the hot exhaust

    030104

    Electrical harness

    6B018

There is also a O ring but not sure the part number.

I have done this to my 2007 Edge and yes you need a hoist and few hours to do this.

If you have questions you can send me a message.

  3. 2007 MKX. Clunk when turn turning left 90 degrees, or 180 degrees. Low speeds(AKA stopped at a stop sign, start rolling forward, then turn wheel).

    Anyone else have that?

TSB 07-25-8 is for the clicking or creaking cv joints.

They can check but if its a early production 2007 and some 2008 vehicles, then there are other known problems when making a 90 degree turn at slower speeds.

The ABS brakes will apply rather abruptly . There is a cure for this but it takes a bunch of coordination with Ford Tech line

    to get it approved etc.

Some vehicles will require that the ABS control module located on the Hydrulic control unit ( HCU) be replaced.

  4. Mine is a 2007 AWD MKX and I have the same problem. I hope Ford browses these forums to see what people are reporting about their cars. I call it free Quality Control. I took my vehicle over the weekend and have yet to hear back from them. I told the service people about this forum and the web address to show them I was not the only one. I hope they follow through. One of the service people asked me what people in this forum was saying the problem was caused by and so far I have not seen where someone has said it is caused by this or that. I suspect this is a new problem as this is the first winter / cold days for this model as the EDGE/MKX was started in 2007 (Or at least I believe it started in 2007).

Its the PTU ( Power Takeoff Unit) axle seal for the intermediate shaft that is failing.

The only thing that cures it is replacing the PTU. Dealers have tryed to replace the seal and it will

    just happen again.

Takes over six hours to do this job. Ford pays us 2.4 hours to fix this.

    PTU units are on backorder.

Have your dealer inspect the seal and order the parts.

    Richard and Barbie

  5. The AWD vehicles have a known problem with the Power Takeoff Unit seals. This is usually the seal where the passenger side axle goes into the PTU.

If you look up from under the vehicle it has that nice yellow colred seal deflector. Synthetic fluid will drip down onto the exhaust.

The smell is very uh different.

Parts are on National backorder right now.

  6. I read an online car magazine article a while ago that indicated Ford makes available to the public a list of Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and Test Ids (I've forgotten where I found the article).

I'm having trouble finding such a published source.

I'm trying to find out the meanings behind some TIDs my OBDII reader is showing...

Does anyone know of a website where information on the meaning behind TIDs is located?

I'm showing 0x26, 0x2a, 0x2b; one website I found shows "EVAP" next to these, and "Misfire" next to the 0x56 code but no other information.

(Does EVAP refer to the fuel evaporation and canister system?)

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Evap refers to the evaporation system:

    fuel filler and cap

    fuel tank pressure

    canister purge

    0x2b indicates vapor pressure

    0x56 shows a misfire

DTC codes would be more helpfull.

The system had a leak which could be as simple as not having the fuel cap on properly.

  7. Hi

I've just bought at 2008 Ford Edge Limited - in Buffalo. I need to turn on the Day Time Running Lights, which I've been told IS installed in the vehicle, jsut not turned on.

Canadian Dealership wants $100 to "flip the switch".

US Dealership wants $50 to do the same, but called today to say they don't know how.

    ANY HELP would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Kyle

Kyle this is very simple to do :

The Dealer can use the IDS programmer and program the smart junction box .

They need to enable Daytime running lights in the exterior lighting section.

Takes less than 15 minutes to hook up the programmer and change it to enable Daytime running lamps.

If they don't understand how to do this they can call the Ford Tech line.

  8. Is there a fuse for the reverse sensing system?

Reverse Sensing System (Park assist) (if equipped)

This feature sounds a warning tone to warn the driver of obstacles near

the rear bumper, and functions only when R (Reverse) gear is selected.

    1. Select this function from the

SETUP menu to disable the reverse

    sensing system feature.

    2. Press the RESET control to turn

the rear park assist OFF. When R

(Reverse) gear is selected, PARK ASSIST OFF will be displayed.

It is in the manual under message center.

    Richard and Barbie

  9. The Daytime Running lights are controlled by the smart juntion box, ( SJB)

The module is located under the dash.

It is programmable with a IDS scanner via the OBDll connector.

You can go to exterior lighting then Daytime Running Lights ( DRL) and turn on or off this feature.

Yes I know that DRL are required in Canada and I am not sure if Ford Tech Help Line

will allow the dealer to reprograme this module.

Section 417-01 and 418 of the workshop manual describe how the module works and also the

procedure for programming a new module.

I usually get requests to turn on the Daytime Running Lights from dealers......oh well thats a totally different situation.

    Hope this helps.

    Richard and Barbie

  10. Ok are you sure you want to do this?

Remove the 2 bolts from the top of the radiator grille.

Remove the 4 scrivets from the top of the radiator grille.

Remove the 3 lower pin-type retainers.

Remove the 6 fender splash shield screws (3 each side).

Remove the 4 lower screws (2 each side).

Disconnect the side marker lamp electrical connectors, if equipped.

Disconnect the fog lamp electrical connectors, if equipped.

    Remove the front bumper cover.

Pull the corner of the bumper cover from the bracket.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  11. Yes its a known problem

    TSB

07-19-6 POPPING/SNAPPING NOISE - FRONT OR REAR 18 INCH WHEELS - TURNING AT SLOW SPEEDS BELOW 10 MPH (16KM/H)

Publication Date: September 10, 2007 This is for vehicles built before 8-24-2007

They have a procedure to follow and if necessary will replace wheels with updated parts

    Richard and Barbie

  12. DRLs are as useless at teats on a bull....it's just something General Motors started in 1995...Thank God Ford doesn't have them as a standard item...

There isn't any Daytime Module that you can disconnect!

You will have to have the smart junction box reprogrammed to turn off the Daytime running lights

    by your dealer.

    Richard and Barbie

  13. first off ...no need for any lights in the daytime thats why the sensor is shutting them off....the relay kits are only necessary when the car is ready to turn them on ...also the sensors are sensitive as are powered relays they are probably interfereing with one another in the daytime because the sensor might pick up some darkness and turn them on ... when you round the corner it may pick up light and turn them off ... i have hids in my edge and trust me its just better to have them turned on manually will save you headaches later on with ballasts and ignitors burning out ...hope this helps

The Daytime running lights are controlled by the smart junction box which is programmed to run the headlamps at a reduced voltage during the Daytime Running Lamps mode. This will not work with HID at all.

Normal headlamp mode will be fine . If the area where you drive requires Daytime running lamps then

    you will have a problem.

Daytime running lamps can be turned off in the Smart Junction Box programming.

  14. Hi all

Does anybody have the direct replacement part number for the keyfob transmitter for our Edge? I called the parts program hotline to order one and they show two different keys for the Edge. One is a 1 button and the other a 6 button. Neither would fit the correct description. I called the dealer and they want like $90 for the key alone. Anyone know for sure? or if one of the above is the correct one?

    Thanks

............and yes, we lost a key! Have to get it programmed...... :banghead:

I dont have access right now to the Ford parts system.

If you need the part number maybe can get that during the week.

  16. I recently learned that Ford is developing a new twin turbo option for the 3.5L along with other engine platforms. Does anyone know if this is true, and if the engine with be available for the Edge. If so, when is it expected to be available?

Ford is working on twin power.......but its direct injection heads with a turbocharger. The 3.5 engine was originally designed for this.

There will also be a 3.7 engine with twin power .

The 3.7 will replace the 4.0 v6 in a lot of vehicles and could show up in the Mustang and other vehicles.

Direct fuel injection works best with low sulphur fuels.....which a lot of areas do not have yet.

Not sure when we could see these engines show up in production vehicles.
