  1. when I first got the vehicle I too was a bit surprised by the amount of roll, but a few things

-all cars have a roll back, some more than others (my gf's 2008 Highlander rolls back just as far as my Edge)

-it won't roll if you use the brake, since the transmission isn't reliable enough way to stop the car anyway

-you get used to the slight roll quickly and knowing about it is half the battle

I always use the PB now, even on the tiniest of inclines. but I almost always did this anyway with every car I've owned. and as soon as you put it in park gently ease your foot off the brake it seems to help avoid the rolling "sensation" as much

  2. While on my trip to Vegas I took my GPS with me to verify speed and a few other little things and I noticed with the cruise set at 80 the GPS would say 77.

So I figured OK I'm of by 3mph no biggie, but later on I set the cruise at 80 again and checked with the GPS again and it said 77 so just for the fun of it I reset the avg MPH on the console and guess what it was telling me. You got it 77MPH

So now I know that the speedo on my Edge is off by 3mph but the computer knows the true speed.

ha that's pretty cool I never noticed that before.... I did notice my GPS seems to have a 1 or 2 mph higher speed than my speedo but never did a since I've only had the GPS a couple weeks and usually too busy watching traffic to play with it. no big straightaways

it's pretty good that you discovered the computer knows the real speed though :) smarter than the average speedo I guess

the only comparison I have noticed with the analog speedo gauge is driving through those areas that have a radar gun posted on a signpost and show you your speed. mine has almost always been right on, never off by more than like 1 mph. so I just figured it was pretty darn accurate but figured I'd test it one of these days.

I do know the analog speedo on my old Ranger was off by 3 mph so I always drove 3 mph faster to make up for it!

  3. I definitely agree with rolling down all the windows for a good minute before running the AC. it helps a lot.

yes the vertical vents make it a bit harder to feel the air at least at 1st. but they designed them that way and not too much you can do. the large cabin and especially windshield let in a lot of UV light so make sure you get a good window shade when it's parked anywhere near sunlight.

I'm planning to do a bit of a driver and passenger side tint to block out any additional rays I can. at least a UV tint if I don't find any other that appears legal. while the front window shade helps, the side windows almost always let in tons of light and heat when I'm parked. I also recommend cracking the front or rear windows a tiny bit while parked in the sun to let excess heat escape - but that's just personal preference.

  4. http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/080806/ford_blind_...irror.html?.v=3

Ford will start putting them on the 2009's ASAP - trying to beat the new Chevy crossover which will also have them.

the article mentions how cheap they will be to include in the Edge for Ford, only a buck or two more than the existing mirrors cost them. I wonder if that means I can go to the dealer and order them for a reasonable amount. I'd really love to retrofit. I have a tiny square stick-on blind spot mirror (Auto Zone!), and don't particularly care for it but it was the best thing I could find that was a decent fit for a few bucks

would love the integrated, flat (futuristic) look and they're a great safety feature... anyone else?

  5. How many Edge owners would consider buying a Ford Edge? Why or why not? Do you think it will have a cult following?

saw my first Flex on the road about a week ago... nice lookin car!!

much bigger than shown in pictures. it's like seeing a super-sized Mini or bigger (late model) Scion XB, but with the Ford styling and build. the one I saw was the standard launch maroon. it's kind of like when the Edge was released and every one you saw was the Blazing Copper Metallic

I wouldn't swap out my Edge to buy one, but if I knew anyone who needed a people mover I'd definitely recommend the Flex!!

  6. BTW.. I watched that Harry Connick jr. commercial last night where he drives the MKX thru New Orleans .. anyway, I noticed that in the entire commercial there is NO antenna on the car! they took it off and just have the black base all the way through. LOL

should have gotten him a stubby :)

I knew there was something unusual about the car in that ad but couldn't put my finger on it. well done!!

I just ordered the 6.8" black aluminum to replace the stock 11.5" ... expecting same reception, better look

  7. today I decided (on my own.. ha) to order the stubby antenna. despite my forgetfulness I managed to remember to measure the stock one before posting and it's 11", or as Lex you said on the other thread 11.5".. much longer than I realized. so I want one just over half to make sure I still get excellent reception which I guess would be in the 6" range - give or take an inch.

thanks for the link to that other thread... I just stumbled across it a minute ago while using the Search box feature. those are the same guys I was planning to order from based on your earlier recommendation here, so glad to hear your experience was good!

I'll let you know how it turns out when I get mine and install it (I like that it's literally a 20 second job) :)

  8. I think it's debatable whether the Edge is a smaller car than your Pontiac Minivan. shorter yes... maybe roofline is a bit lower, by all other measures not really. certainly if it's FWD model you own you should get slightly better mileage than that. but everyone else seems to have decent results on the highway.

I'll give one anecdote I had just filled up on Saturday and drove it about 5 miles on the freeway. I was trying to get to one store near my home and accidentally got off one exit too late, thus had to double back since this place is on a one way road. sat through 2 annoyingly long red lights resulting in stop-and-go with A/C running to get there. drove straight home on surface streets after that. due to my error and street driving my trip computer (now 8 miles) immediately dropped down from 20MPG to 16. after my 11 mile drive to work today on the highway (avg 25-30 miles / hr) I was only able to get it back up to 17 MPG.

point being driving highway vs. city makes the biggest difference IMO. everyone who drives one on highways primarily seems to say they get well over 20MPG even at relatively high speeds. I've yet to achieve that but anyone should be able to get 18+ MPG (around 7-8 km / L) with proper driving, tire pressure, and not running A/C constantly. seems like your average of 5.5 is indeed lower than most

  9. I don't get it.. when I click on their link they're all "dummy" antennas it seems like. I'm interested in a stubby, I want to know how easy they are to install?

Edit: oh, oh I think I get it. so you guys just installed the stubby on the factory base right? so I guess that is the way to go. I'll definitely have to pick out the one I like best and go that route. it beats the long factory one with the wire wrapped around it :)

  10. lol...I was told I couldn't take the head unit out. Bummer. Could have sold it on ebay

not to mention the airbags since they didn't deploy!

those are definitely worth some change. you should have tried to get 'em LOL

  11. CX-7 is not even close... nice "little" car but I don't think there's that much comparison.

drive the Edge, drive the CX-9, pick the one that most suits your needs or personality. if you want something small and sporty consider the CX-7. as others have mentioned, the 2008 seems to have been tuned to run on regular fuel whereas the 2007 CX-7 could only use premium fuel. but I'd confirm that on Edmunds, etc.

  12. yeah I can remember gas as low as about 79c throughout my childhood (early - mid 80s)

normally it was around a dollar, occassionally spiking to $1.20 or $1.30 in the early 90s. I remember when I got my first car (age 21, was about 1995) and gas was like $1.19 a gallon which eventually got up to $2 / gal during that fall and slowly came back down over time. but I recall thinking... wow these prices are insane.

now I can't drive past a station that's not $3.95 regular if not higher. wow what a difference. so much for having $5 left in your pocket before payday and squeezing 3 or 4 gallons into your tank to get by to get to work. I love my Edge and gets decent mileage but I also doubt I'll be filling up for less than $60 anytime soon.

  13. monochrome? as in, one color... ahh but which color? black or white. maybe I'm not just up on my MKX lingo

drivers seat - I like it don't need a huge butt pad. my butt fits maybe if I was a lady with super wide hips or XL dude I'd have a prob. I'm only a L dude

cheesy interior... can't help ya there. maybe for a Lincoln it isn't quite up to snuff (yes I've ridden in an MKX I realize it's really close to the Edge Premium). isn't there wood trim at least? and I think the monochrome package has nicer leather seats, etc. I like my Ford inside & out. I just need to stop and detail the thing for once. get all my dusty fingerprints outta there

shifter - common complaint, but the thing shifts electronically for you (2 low gears) when put into L so an extra shifter position would not be that functional IMO, really just for looks as much as anything else. if you really need to be in "1", by the time you drop below a certain speed, I think it's 15 or 20 MPH the thing automatically downshifts into 1 anyway. so what's the point in having to do it yourself? just saying

  14. man I would have thought the side (seat & curtain) airbags would have engaged. but it's possible you were hit at such an angle this didn't happen. or just with not enough side deceleration force.

I do know the front airbags and side airbags are different systems. but I expected something...

  15. damn, gotta thank Ford's safety department! I am almost tempted to say "how did you like your crash?" as odd as that sounds. probably because I've been in two cars that were totalled and needless to say I didn't fare quite as well as you. luckily no collision as crazy as yours, but my 1st car ('89 Escort GT) did end it's existence in an impressive front end / t-boning when some guy pulled out into traffic from a sidestreet in a little Toyota with no warning.

one thing I am thankful for all the time, that I don't visually see every day when I get in and drive are the impressive safety features. glad you're OK and let us know when you get your replacement Edge!!

  16. $200 over invoice price, minus incentives (I took $2000 cash back vs. the special 2.9% financing with no cash back). I also had a $500 college grad rebate, but that's a separate rebate program where Ford sends you a check in the mail. so it didn't come directly out of the deal. I ended up having around $4500 down - no trade since I still have my truck - and financing it at, I believe 5.9% for 60 months which I will pay off in 48 or less.

I got mine in early April, if I had completed the deal in March I would have gotten an additional $750 cash back from a mailer I got that expired on 3/31. it only ended up being a $250 difference since the factory cash back local incentive increased by $500 in April but my car didn't arrive from the factory in time. no huge loss I'm still happy :)

  17. agreed the Michelins on the '08 are great. when I saw the '07 models roll out with Kumho's and Continentals I thought to myself "oh dear, they cheaped out on the tires"... I'm sure the Edge I originally test drove (an '07) had the Conti's. they felt "OK" but I am really happy with what what I'm rolling on.

my last vehicle - '99 Ranger - came with Firestone (not the recalled ones on Explorer, but not far off) which lasted over 60k but I never thought were special otherwise. then I replaced them with some store brand tire and got something like 35k out of them... ouch. by the time it was itching for new tires again I went for some Michelin X-radials and was much more happy (performed better than stock and also puncture-resistant). this was only 10k miles ago so whoever ends up buying this vehicle off me should be happy with the rubber for some time.

I doubt I'll end up buying any other tires besides Michelin again in my lifetime, so I'm glad Ford went with them on most if not all the '08s. :shades:

  18. I just finished our first fill up this morning at 465km on the odo, with the low fuel warning. Dropped in 65L of gas, my math says that's 14L/100Km. It's been about 80% city, but I'm fairly good at "hypermile-ing," which is what bbf is refering to. AFAIK that is fairly close to sticker. Not sure on what MPG that is though.

7.14 Km/L? Not sure if that is good bad or average... the number's kind of meaningless to me. I suppose the fact that there are 3.785 Liters per gallon (according to google) and I know there are 1.61 kilometers per mile this translates to about 62.1 mi / 3.7 gal = 16.78 MPG. which seems about right since my first tank I averaged about 15.4 and half of that was city driving.

by my 2nd tank I was in 16's and 3rd tank around 18 MPG. so it seems like you're on track.

  19. I'm paying for a little more peace of mind as well. I'm going with full synthetic and changing the oil every 5,000 miles instead of 7,500. I'll go with either Mobil 1 or Royal Purple oil and probably the Motorcraft filter. I change the oil myself so I'll save a little there.

ditto - with the exception I may or may not do it myself (definitely not on the first service). but everything else you said is same here.

  20. On my 2007 Edge, I have complained since taking the vehicle in August that when the driver's door is closed the panels do not line up. It has been back to to dealer many times for various faults but apparently nothing can be adjusted to make the doors align when closed. This only affects the drivers side, so I suppose I should be thankful for small mercies.

Has anyone else suffered from this comical built control?

    isn't that the passenger door?

anyway yeah it's definitely off but since it's not severly so I'd say just turn it in at end of lease

  21. pinstripes? :) hmm I'm sure I don't remember that option. kidding!!

looks great I'm sure she rides as nice as she looks (quite a bit like mine but diff wheels and I have roof rails instead of BAMR). also my girlfriend has a dark grey toyota as parked next to yours in the photos so that made me do a double take
