  1. The only time I notice any glare in the Edge is while driving in a very bright sun and directly into said sunlight. not if I'm going away from or at an obtuse angle.

there is almost no glare in my gf's '08 Highlander, which I drove this past weekend and was surprised. I think the windshield angle on the Edge is much more sloping, combined with a pretty flat dash (on top) which causes the reflection towards the driver. without redesigning the entire windshield and dash I don't think there's much else they could do.

just don't use shiny Armor All... which I already did. without it I bet I wouldn't have half as much glare

  2. I did have one incident with my low miles 2008 SEL so far. I was pulling into a Target parking lot, turned into a space in an empty row at about 8 MPH. as I was 3/4 into the space, with the wheel nearly all the way to the left the vehicle completely died. Oil, Battery, and Engine warning lights all lit. thing still in D with my foot just barely having a second to begin depressing the brake (not the cause). wasn't even running the A/C or any other accessories aside from the radio. never touched the shifter or ignition

so far this has only happened once. should it happen again I will be sending her in. but I'll be reporting it to dealer during the 1st service anyway.

one other question, my right rear emits a momentary but obvious high pitched squeal if I am loading anything (even of very light weight) into the cargo area, I think only when parking brake is engaged but need to confirm it.. is this normal? no sound comes from the left side at all no matter how hard I push down or if I drop a heavy load closer to the left wheel. might have to mention to the dealer as well.

also I got my 1st door chip yesterday :( my own fault as I nudged the door open just a hair wider to squeeze something out of the back seat and heard a thunk from a small (1/4") dia steel pipe along this block wall at 1/2 rear door height. but I'd rather have it be from me than some unknown marks all over the place from unknown persons. luckily it's tiny, but I still want to touch it up since I know it's there and people could conceivably notice it.

pull right? yea maybe. the jury is still out. seems to drift that way just a bit on occassion but couldn't be sure if it was just the roadway for drainage or the vehicle out of line, so I'm still figuring it.

  3. I have 4200 miles on made a run from Orlando to Bradenton and got 23.5 running 75-80 around

town my wife get 17-18 I'm looking for a cold air package has anyone heard of anything out there.

nobody seems to make a really good one of these yet, but I'm not sure how great of an improvement there would be in the Edge as some other vehicles, as others have wondered too. I saw one setup for sale, I think on eBay but was not overly impressed. it was sort of a universal looking intake

  4. bbf2530,

Its a Ford ExtraCARE plan (basic + High Tech).

    The zip is, 10570.

I'm a bit apprehensive, I probably will not give the reg. info.

Sorry for the mix-up of your name.

  5. Well I might be trading in the Edge today  Hate to see it go but I really don't need it and with gas prices on the rise and not looking like they are going to stop anytime soon I need a car with better gas millage. I'm also going to lower my monthly payment.

I have looked up the value of the Edge for Trade on KBB and Edmunds and KBB is listing it at 17,500 and Edmunds is at 19,200 Thats a big difference.

I have a 2007 SE AWD with Roof Rails, Trailer package and 6 disc CD, no BAMR, 25,xxx miles Excellent condition

What do you all think would be a good trade in value?

    Thanks in Advance

sorry to hear about it. I just got mine a while back and since break-in isn't done yet I haven't exceeded 16MPG. but hope to do so soon and average around 20-21 mostly highway driving. since I don't drive a high amount of miles it's not a big deal to me. still, filling up for $60 the first time was a little bit of a sticker shock.

as for the price to sell for, might want to split the difference. I have noticed that KBB seems a little bit low in my past experience. is that private party price that you looked up? just checking.

also look up cars.com etc. to see what dealers are selling them for in your area (likely about 1500 higher than what you'll end up listing it for). since it's in excellent shape and you seem intent on listing it at a fair price I think you'll end up getting very close to the asking.

I recommend autotrader.com if they have that in your area. my girlfriend just listed her old car on there and I helped her sell it yesterday. she had much better results than other ways we tried in the past. this vehicle had one softball-sized dent on the driver's side front fender which she intentionally showed in the picture, and it still got offers relatively close to the asking price from people who hadn't even seen the car in person. and this is a 2000 Xterra base model with 125000 mi in average condition... nothing special.

  6. your HIDs and wheels look great, I'm sure you get lots of complements on the vehicle :) I ended up ordering some xenon H11 55w and hoping they will work much better than stock for low beams. we'll see how those do before I decide to go all the way up to HIDs which I am still leaning away from

by the way stubby is cool is it dual purpose (FM & Satellite)?

  7. For those interested, here is the official Ford ESP web address: LINK: Ford ESP Plans This site may be helpful to those interested in ESP Plan information, pricing and purchases, without the hassle of Dealing directly with a Dealership. It explains all of the various ESP Plans in detail, and you can actually work up pricing on a Plan you are interested in, or various Plans for comparison. Really quite handy.

remind me to buy it within the 12/12,000 then! thanks for the warning you just saved me $100!!

  8. One thing to add to this from being a salesman and working in a Ford dealer would be that you can buy an ESP anytime. As long as your in the factory warrenty its the same price if you buy it now or later. Drive it for a few years and if it gives you any trouble then extend it. Why pay for something your not going to use for the next 3 years.

I said the EXACT thing to the finance guy when I was buying my Edge. said it's negotiable, and I'll just buy it later if I want. he looked at me like, damn you're pretty good... but still claimed it would be $400 higher later. I'm like, ya thanks but no thanks. told him nice try (LOL)

only thing I couldn't see past was the GAP insurance (not that I'd ever considered it necessary before). they quoted me $800 and after negotiating down from their "fleet" price of $500+ I ended up paying like 300 bucks. full replacement through my insurance company I'm sure would have been costly if they even offer it (no I don't have $tate Farm). they try to sell you "for the life of the vehicle" yadda yadda but I think that's just spin. who's filing a claim with their GAP insurance on a 5 or 6 year old car? still I couldn't say no.

  9. what kind of checklist... I would say one thing you can do is go to the website and print out the full list of options. for example, the Edge you can go to that vehicle page and within one click show the list of standard features. then with another click you can "build" it and price with options.

you can also do this kind of thing on Edmunds. in my case after I ordered a vehicle and it arrived, I walked around it several times, sat in it, started it up but didn't drive it. made sure everything worked. started it up (didnt really drive it, trusted if there were any problems I'd find it within the 1st 30 days). adjusted everything, seats, mirrors, etc. I made sure all the options I ordered were there as expected. checked the window sticker which had been placed in the glovebox already. eventually I found two minor, but relatively long surface scratches on the car. the fleet salesman, when I told him, noticed one more. two of them buffed out right on the spot but one did not. so I had them open a work order to take care of during my 1st service. in other words, make sure it's everything you were expecting but also look for any obvious defects before signing all the paperwork and leaving the lot.

this was my 1st time EVER buying a new car and a special moment for me so I was ecstatic and understand where you're coming from (I think). hope this helps!

  10. Wow yuo guys are great and very informative.

I have thought about ordering a new one the only problem is that the dealer may or may not have an SEL with the optional 18" premium wheels when

    mine shows up.

    Timing seems to be everything.

I have been searching everywhere online and can not find any information about the 2009 edge's except for the sport model.

Were only a few months away from the 09's showing up and maybe ford has realized how limited customers are with the wheel options.

Anyone know of a site that gives info about the 09's.

    Thanks

I don't know exact timings or anything, but would you want to wait a minimum of 4 months (perhaps longer) for an '09 which will likely only have a few cosmetic differences? just asking.

I mean you can have an '08 ordered by any dealer, built to your liking and in your hands within 6 weeks. trust me...

by the way if you are loading it up with options don't get an SEL. it'll come out to the same price as a base Limited, I also say this from experience because I had the options you see below and it came out only like 1000 less. but that was fine with me since I didn't want to pay the extra thou + tax and interest (I financed most of the vehicle cost) for stuff I didn't need or desire. as others have mentioned, any respectable dealer will let you swap to a different wheel no problem.

  11. Thanks for the info I want a limited but blazing copper is hard to come by with the options I want.

And the wheels are still an issue.

did they check other dealers for you? have you checked Ford Direct yourself (kind of a pain but once you get the hang of it, is easy)

I wanted a Red SEL but was very specific about options I was looking for including charcoal leather and the Audiophile, with the 18" Painted Aluminum rims, two of the harder options to find on SEL. the first thing the salesman (fleet sales) did was check other dealers for anything remotely CLOSE to what I was looking for. he came up with one vehicle that was at least in the ballpark and printed it out for me, but it had a few things I did not want/need like tow package. and missing 1 or 2 others. so he just went ahead and ordered the vehicle and BAM 5 weeks later I was stylin'

sounds like this guy didn't even want to check other dealers for you - the basic minimum. I bet being EOM (April 30th) all he cared about was selling one on the lot TODAY so he could hit his number. I dealt with 2 other dealerships somewhat like this (ok not that bad, just not helpful enough in my estimation). walk away and find a better one :)

  12. that's cool I'm still thinking about it. I'll decide soon enough. eventually I'll get tired of only being able to see 200 feet in the dark with the stock bulbs :(

someone said they replaced their lo-beam H11s with H9 xenons instead. did I just misinterpret that? how would an H9 (65W?) work out in an H11 (55W) housing? or was that for the fog lamps (I don't really care to upgrade these yet, they work fine much better than the stock low beams)

  13. what is oil cooler. I think my Edge is leaking something also. I seems fumes are getting into the car. Guess what Ford can duplicate our find.

I have started reporting "COMPLAINT" AT http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/index.cfm and

    http://www.consumeraffairs.com/

one other good one is http://www.carcomplaints.com/

Maybe then they will start tunning in . My ford place in so many words said report them to the BBB. :finger:

an oil cooler, basically think of a radiator but instead of engine coolant it's cooling your engine oil.

it's standard equipment if you have the tow package. allows for your vehicle to run under severe conditions without frying your oil every time thereby damaging your engine in the long run, or contributing to an overheating condition.

  14. Are you doing low beam only or high and low beam?

low beams only. you know what though, I am rethinking it right now since I'm not sure if I like the reflector pattern I've seen with the HIDs. also I'm pretty mediocre with electrical things. so maybe just go with some high intensity bulbs. I don't like the stock ones even though I gave them every chance.

in my Ranger I have silverstars or nighthawk, I forget the name. they work pretty well, I might just go with something similar in the Edge

  15. tiny paint imperfection on my Redfire (roughly the size of the head of a pin) on my rear bumper where the top (flat) part meets the vertical face.

decided to point it out to dealer, only to the point where they'll give me some touch up paint so I can try to make sure nothing underneath shows. there were also three scratches , one on front passenger door right side I never saw, dealer told me about it after I complained about the ones on the rear quarter panel and longer one on liftgate right below window, on that angled lip above the license plate. all but one on the rear quarter buffed out by hand (by the dealer). the other one they had to open a work order during the sale to have it buffed out professionally.

all but the minor defect most likely occurred during transport I'm guessing.

  16. lighten up leadfoot :) you'll get at least 15... and it's not just acceleration from stoplights. don't drive over 70 MPH either, note how your owners manual says it takes 15% more gas to drive 65 MPH than 55. it only gets exponentially worse from there.

V8 is nice (sometimes). gas prices for a couple of tenths faster are not. I took a little road trip this weekend, saw gas as high as $4.19 a gallon here in CA ... 87 regular! I always laugh at the people who always say they have to mash the pedal to "make up" for the V6 also. yeah 0-60 7.4 man how do people deal with all this sluggishness? crazy

my Edge isn't even broken in yet and I'm averaging 15.4 MPG right now for only 17 MPH average speed. that's quite a bit of city driving combined with a whole lot of rush hour traffic on the highway. and a stop at one or two drive thru's. I suspect I'll get well over 20 MPG soon and probably even more as my avg speed improves.

  17. The type you see at Target or Walmart, $10 ~ $20, that twist up for storage & pop-out for use...if you bought one that fits well, share your source & important data....thx

I bought two at Pep Boys the other day. THe first one was one of those accordian-style unfolding jobs. It was silver and super thick/insulated. I bought the "jumbo" sized. almost fit - problem was, it reached almost the entire height of the window but was waaay too wide. so by having to fold the extra flap down to fit, it left about a 4" gap on each side! not acceptible :redcard: there were two others that were the round/unfolding kind. one is a big disc with some extra fabric around it, but I didn't like the looks of it. The next was another round unfolding (twisting) one. turns out it's actually 2 separate discs. it's assymetrical so you can adjust it for a wider or taller windshield. I adjusted them the tall way. they overlap slightly towards the center but there is a small V at the bottom of the windshield near the automatic headlight sensor and maybe 1/2" gap on the sides near the pillars. if you're going to be parked in bright sunlight all the time might be a problem.

otherwise, since it covers about 90% of the windshield and cost only around $12 that's pretty good. I might try some more if I find any.

I suppose if I want to spend $40 + shipping (4x as much) I can cover 100% of the windshield at heatshieldstore.com
