  1. Ford gave me new 18" wheels last summer because they were corroded from the previous winter driving. Now that winter is almost over (I live in Minnesota) I noticed the new wheels are also corroded. I haven't contacted Ford yet so I don't know if they'll keep giving me new ones or not. I'll keep you posted.

  2. Has anyone found the front chrome grill or the Ford logo starting to pit or chip away?

I've had my Edge for a year now. I live in Minnesota, so the weather can be hard on a car. I haven't had any problems with the grill or the logo. The only problem I had was the wheels corroding and Ford replaced them.

  3. Thanks for the info about the wheels. I never noticed the corrosion until all you nice folks mentioned it. My dealer is going to replace 3 of them for me. I have to buy the 4th one because my bride put the Edge in the ditch during the last snow storm and dinged up the right front wheel. Ford won't replace anything that's damaged. The good news is my pretty wife wasn't hurt and there wasn't a scratch put on the Edge. The bad news is a few days later the car wash put about 10 scratches on the passenger side doors.

  4. I have no idea if that would work, but why go to all the trouble. I live in Minnesota and just went through our first major snow storm. The stock tires on the 18" rims go through the snow with ease. It's the best snow car I ever had and it doesn't even have all-wheel drive. It's hard to tell if the roads are slippery with the Edge. It's amazing in the snow and I don't have to worry about my wife getting stuck somewhere. Either way, good luck with that. Enjoy your Edge! God bless.

  5. I migrated from a Pacifica Limited to the Edge SEL Liimted and I just got back from the first long 700 mile trip down I80 from Chicago to Flint and back.

I found the drivers seat real hard to get comfortable, constant sifting in the seat after an hour or so. Wife is 5'4" and doesn't complain either in the drivers or passenger seat.

I am 6 foot 2, 220 lbs and I found the seat hard and the pitch of the seat could not be adjusted enuff to get me comfortable.

I wanted more range in the tilt wheel (I do like the GM and Chrysler tilt wheel).

The power seat and recliner did not angle back enuff to support my thighs on the seat bottom well, Granted I DO have long legs, but I don't have a problem with my kids S10 pickup or the Chrysler.

Looks like I will have to look at some cushion or means to get comfortable, but I really should NOT have to!

    Anyone else having trip woes??

I'm 205 pounds with a bad (old) back and I can drive my Edge all day without any pain. Best seats I ever had. Even better than my F-150. Maybe you have to get used to them. I hope that doesn't wreck your enjoyment of the Edge.

  6. I have the factory installed auto-start on my Edge but haven't used it because it isn't cold here yet. I don't know all the features it has but I don't think it has the features you mentioned. I've had after market auto-starts put on 5 on my cars now. All of them at one time or another have srewed something up. My Sable would start up all by itself. My Contour would try and start itself up (even though the engine was already running) in the car wash. My F-150 won't start at all when my wife drives it (she is doing something I never do because it always starts for me. I think she locks the doors before she starts it and that screws something up). My Neon would blink all the lights for about ten minutes. So I would never put an after market starter on my new car. I paid more for Ford to do it, but if it screws up I feel they will stand behind it. Those after market guys look at you like you're goofy.

  7. So I ordered my wife's '08 Limited last week, but I'm truly disappointed that Remote Start does NOT come as a factory installed option. For all the additions that Ford made to the 2008's, I'm surprised that Remote Start was not one of them.

I am curious as to how the dealer-installed remote start functions and the advantages to getting this one over an aftermarket kit. I would like for it to perform the same functions as my '07 Tahoe's remote start does. It first recognizes the outside temperature, then if it's cold outside it turns on the heated seats and blasts hot air from the vents (regardless of the last setting when the vehicle was turned off). If it's hot outside, it blasts the A/C's freezing cold air (also regardless of last setting). Does the dealer-installed remote start function in this manner? If not, could someone please give me a brief summary of it's features.

Also, the dealer's cost is $230+labor, which seems a little steep to me. I have found the same kit for $193 on the following website...

    http://www.partscheap.com/edge07.htm

I would probably still have the dealer install it for me, but this would save me almost $40. Is this system worth the price or is there others out there that have the same features for less money?

Please share your experiences and knowledge. Thanks!

  8. I'm sure you'll be happy with their product. I've got the camel interior and I feel my leather seats could have been a little darker. It's hard to keep clean with the grandkids in and out of it. I don't think I would get the leather seats without getting heated seats. I live in Minnesota and it can get really cold here. I hope you enjoy your Edge as much as the wife and I do. We just had our first oil change @ 5,000 miles and the car has been a joy to own.

  9. I have + 800 miles on a 10 day old Edge FWD. My question is when the pump clicks off the first time, I can manually top off and add at least 1.5 - 2 more gallons of fuel in the tank. My last fill up was 302 miles driven and 16.67 gallons of fuel taken. Problem is I did top it off before this fill up and topped it off again today. The on board computer said 19.5 mpg and the calculated to TOP OFF is 18.11 mpg. Now this was about 80-85 % hwy with A/C and driving about 65-70 mph. I have to say the first three fill ups my gas mileage is going up with Time on the engine. My driving habits are no different. Love the car and NO DOUBT if I did average 55-60 mph Hwy I could get + 25 mpg. So how do we figure the top off, is it part of the 20 or 19 gallon volume ?

I have almost 5,000 miles on my FWD Edge. I love the truck but hate the way it fills with gas. You're correct, the pump shuts off but then you can put in another 3 or 4 gal. I can't tell when the truck is full so I sometimes overfill it and get gas on the side of the truck. I don't know how the onboard computer figures this all out but my Edge is getting way better mileage than you are getting. I've been getting 19 to 20 mpg in town and mid 20's on the road. For the first 2,000 miles I couldn't get over 22 mpg on the road, but then as it got broke in it got better and better. The best I ever got was driving from Minn. to S. Dakota. I had the wind behind me and got 27 MPG. Driving home against the wind I got 23 MPG.

  10. Hello all,

Wife and I just bought our '07 Edge on Saturday and I'm already looking into modifications for it.

Anyone know if there are painted side mirror covers available on the market yet, or the painted door handles?

We bought the SE and right now the mirrors and door handles are black. The Edge itself is Blazing Copper.

    Thanks!

    Aris

Wow, I love the color. I wanted to buy ours that color but the wife chickened out. We bought red, which I like, but not as much as copper. We bought the SEL Plus, so it came with red door handles and mirrors. I have a hunch you may be able to buy chrome mirror covers and door handles. Enjoy your new ride. We sure love ours.

  11. Are there any kits out there that merely replace the chrome in the fog lamps? I've searched for accessories, but it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

For some reason, the chrome bothers me and sticks out like a sore thumb in the black.

I haven't seen any kits for that. I like the chrome. I would rather add chrome to fill in between the lights than omit the chrome already there. Good luck on your search.

  12. Thanks for the fast response...I see what you are talking about..I pressed mine back in place also and will monitor it to see if it becomes loose again.

Take it back to the dealer. My 2 month old Edge has the same problem and I've pushed it back in place a dozen times. It still rattles. I took it back to the dealer and they fixed it for a day and now it rattles again. I'm going to try the dealer again.

  13. I had the headrest dvd players installed in my new Edge at the Ford dealer. They sound and look good. My grandkids love the games that are loaded into the system. They can watch the same movies or play the same games, or they can play them individually. I like the headrest dvd players better than the stock factory ones because they don't block your rearview mirror and there are two players instead of only one. The sound for the system can be heard through the radio or wireless headphones. It's a pretty nice setup!

  14. Ford Accessories part number - 7T4Z-7845440-AC - but there is no picture to see what it looks like - $ 125

Don't buy Ford's cargo cover. I did and brought it back. They want you to drill holes in your brand new car to install a plastic hook to hold the back of the cover up. Then you have to hold the front of it up by placing loops over the three headrests. That means you can't use the back arm rest and you can't lower the back seats (they are all looped together). To hold up the sides they want you to slide a hook between your back side window and the molding. After a few times doing that you would have loose scatched molding. It 's not a good design, save your money.

  15. Hi Edge owners,

My kids love the rear DVD system, but today that we tried to use it, the LCD shows a message saying "Bad Disc" and it doesn't allow us to eject the DVD (it is the same DVD that they were watching yesterday).

Has anybody run into the same problem?

Any hint or tip is very welcome!

    Best regards...

Is it a store bought dvd, or one you burned with a label on it? I had a cd I burned (with a paper label) cought in my dash cd player. My cd's (with the label) are too thick. If your dvd's are store bought I don't know what the problem is. Try hitting it;usually works for me.

  16. OK so I went to my local dealer today to catch a glimpse of the Dark Ink Blue I'm considering ordering for my '08 Edge. According to the dealer's website they had to '08 Taurus' (1 black and 1 blue). When I got there I only saw 2 black Taurus'. I asked the salesperson for assistance. She said they only had 2 blacks and no blues. On my way out I staired again at the black Taurus under covered area. I stepped closer...closer still....leaned in to within about 1 foot and low and behold, it was dark ink blue. It would have to be a pretty sunny day I think to bring out the blue in that paint color. Although I haven't seen the Light Ice Blue yet (currently on the '08 Escape and Taurus) I think I might be leaning towards that color instead. I'm not a fan of black and dark ink blue is much closer to back than it is to blue. Too bad the dealer didn't have any Ice Blues to preview but I think I will have to see both side by side in the direct sunlight to make my final decision. But you can bet 95 people of out 100 people will mistake ink blue for black. And with that in mind, it's not a pretty black either. My first impression was it wasn't black enough. Kind of like Steve Martin's tux in "Father of the Bride". On the flip side I was worried about the Ice Blue looking to feminine since I'm a macho beefcake and all (just kidding). However if it looks refined, classy and upscale like the Blue Metallic I've seen on the Lexus RX 330 then I can live with that.

If you're considering ordering this color site unseen, don't. I highly advise you to preview it first on the Taurus.

Ford seems to have trouble with colors lately. Their purple and gray are so dark they look black too. Why make a color so dark you can't tell what color it is on a cloudy day? We bought a red one and like it, but a few more good choices would have been nice. The off white, tan, copper and red were the only colors we liked. Lucky for Ford that the Edge is such a nice truck that they could sell them if they were painted pink!

  17. That is cool, but alas it is two separate DVD players. It'd be nice if the screens were slaved to a unit up front.

I just had the twin DVD players installed by the dealer and they did a super job. All the wires are tucked away and it looks like it came from the factory already installed. I have a hard time getting rid of my grandkids when they ride in the back seat because they want to stay back there and play the preloaded video games.

  18. I owned my Edge a day and managed to get my cd's stuck in the cd player. The dealer anwered my cry for help and pulled a cd player from one they had in stock. Within an hour I was on my way with a new cd player. He said the problem was I shouldn't play cd's that I have burned because they are too thick. I know the cd's I play have a paper label and thus they are thicker. I would like to play my home burned cd's without the label but I'm afraid to. Has anyone else tried playing their own cd's without the label?

  19. Someone described the cargo cover in this thread in the Edmunds MKX forum.

If part of this cover really clips onto the rear seat headrests, I wonder what happens if someone hits one of the power seatback fold buttons...

I bought the cover and didn't like it so I returned it. It hooks on all three headrests which means you can't lower the seats or use the middle arm rest. The center has a hooks that are supposed to hook between the window and the side molding. In time I think that area would become damaged. For the back fastener they want you to drill holes and mount a button looking thing. Once I saw that I bailed out!

  20. :reading: "Way to go" from Minnesota. Nice looking Edge. I ordered a red SEL plus with the bamr and 18" wheels. It will be made on May 31 and I should get it by June 8th. The dealer will keep it for a couple of days to install the auto-start and DVD player in the head rests. Enjoy your Edge!
