  1. How do you remove the mirror glass? I need to remove and replace my old colored plastic and put it on the new mirror housing I got on the internet.

If the other guy who removed it using several screw drivers reads this how exactly did you do that?

    Thank you

It isn't easy to describe without showing you. It'd be easier if you can get the mirror off first. Once the mirror is off, you'll see 5 clips that hold t he colored plastic piece in place. You just push the tip of the screwdriver into the clips to get them to pop them out.

The reason I used several screwdrivers originally is because I couldnt figure out how to get the mirror off first. So I used the second screw driver to push the mirror aside while I wiggled the other in to get the clip to pop. It'll be much easier if you get the mirror off first.

  2. I actually figured this out myself. It turned out to be super easy. You just open the door and you will see a plastic/ rubber cover that covers three bolts and the electrical connection for the mirror. Remove the cover, disconnect the electrical, and remove the 3 bolts and the mirror housing comes off. Easiest mirror replacement ever.

The only tricky part was that I replaced the colored part of the new mirror housing(which was beige and I picked up on ebay for $100) with my old one, which remained undamaged. There are 5 clips behind the mirror glass that you have to unclip. I did this with great difficulty without removing the mirror glass itself by creatively using several flathead screw drivers. But in the end i was able to pop it off and putting the original color matched one on was easy. Sure beats the $200 plus labor the dealer wanted to charge me.

  3. So I busted the passenger side mirror on my Edge thanks to a narrow garage opening. Its not too bad, the housing is okay except for the black part that surrounds the mirror (the black portion). I'm thinking I can get any mirror housing and switch the colored part with my current one. Anyone have an experience in trying this? I'll post a pic if my description isn't clear enough. Also, I was thinking of trying to use the 09 or 2010 mirror (I think they have the blind spot mirror which I like). Anyone know if they fit an 08 edge?

  4. Only downfall to this i can see is that then the bluetooth is controlled through the radio so that button on the wheel will not work.

Hmm well according to the Pac-Audio site, the PAC MS-FRD1 features include retaining the stearing wheel controls.

    * Retains all functions of SYNC including:

    o Voice Recognition Music Search

    o USB

    o iPod

    o Auxiliary Input

    o Streaming Bluetooth Audio

    o Bluetooth Phone

    o Turn-by-Turn Navigation

    o 911 Assist

    o Vehicle Health Report

    * Retains Factory Satellite Radio

    * Retains Standard, Audiophile, Shaker, THX, and Sony Amplified systems

    * Retains all Steering Wheel Controls

    * Retains Rear Seat Entertainment and Rear Seat Controls

    * Provides all necessary outputs for Standard or Navigation radio installations

  5. yes you will need a steering wheel interface of some sort .

look at the top right of diagram on page 1 and middle of page 2

Ah yes I see now. So it seems this setup is possible. Will mull it over, I'm a bit reluctant about losing the 6 disc front loading changer in the stock setup because I listen to audio books from the library and they come on many discs.

  6.

I'm seriously looking into doing this. I want to put in an aftermarket nav/headunit, so I called PAC Audio, and they told me that if I wanted to retain steering wheel controls for the music functions I would also have to get this depending on which unit I put in.

If you have done this install, can you confirm this? The description for the PAC MS-FRD1 says retains all steering wheel controls but I'm not sure if they mean just the controls related to SYNC.

  7. A few weeks ago my radio suddenly turned off. It had done it one or two other times also. I wonder if there is some kind of surge protection that kicks in sometimes.

Was it just the radio for you or the message center and digital a/c display as well? I'd seen others say that their radio went off but none say the other two things.

  8. Okay, this was pretty bizarre. Last week while driving the Edge home from work on a somewhat rainy day, I'm listening to some CD in the car when it just spontaneously shuts off, buttons don't respond, clock goes off. On top of that, the digital AC display turns off completely, as does the message center display in the dash. No amount of button pushing brings it back, but about a minute later everything comes back on. Then, after about 30 seconds, it all goes off again, and comes back on after 15 minutes. It has stayed on since then, but this was seriously bizarre.

  9. Well I will mention it at my service appointment on Friday, have them take a look. I'll post back here on what they say.

So turns out I had the PTO seal problem too, they replaced the seal with the newly designed one. They think the shuddering/vibration while backing up and turning at slow speeds was related to low fluids caused by the PTO leak problem.

  10. Hi Osiris.

I have an '09 AWD Edge...I'm not sure if this problem exists w/ all Edges, or maybe just the AWDs. Yes, mine has this too...kind-a subtle...just at very low speeds as if I'm backing out of the garage or parking spot while turning the wheel... It's not been enough to cause me concern though... Has anyone else had this problem?

  11. Hey just thought I would join the forum. Since I bought my 08 I fell in love with it. I needed to store my stang in the winter so I needed something to drive in the cold months here in New England. I'm 22 years old, I live in the Boston area, and I'm hoping to learn some stuff from you guys here. I'm finding that I need to modify my new edge like I did my mustang, stock just isn't for me. :shades:

Welcome to the forums. I got my 08 Edge last week and love it too. Also living in MA in needed something for the winter months.

  12. Hey there,

So I'm one week into owning my Edge and had some observations and questions. I gotta say I love the car so far, and I'm very happy with it, even though I'm having some things serviced this friday. I've got a few questions:

    1) Can I put in the stock nav unit that works with Sync into my Edge? Has anyone done so, and if so, can you DIY it?

    2) I noticed some shuddering when turning the car at low speeds, like say when backing out of a parking lot? Is this normal?

    3) I also noticed that power to the power connections seems to stay on even when the car is off. I plug in a portable GPS and it stays on when I leave the car. I'd prefer it'd turn off automatically, so is there a way to change this? If not, is it likely I could drain my battery by having things plugged in (phone, iPod, GPS)?

  13. Hey There,

So I want to do my first mod to my new (to me) Ford Edge. I was initially going to put in one of those 3d sherwood kits in a wood finish, but the wife begged me not too, she thinks its too old fashioned. I looked at the carbon fiber but don't really like that either. Anyone know of any other options?

I saw that sherwood innovations (http://www.sherwooddash.com/) has satin nickel and brushed aluminum. The stock dash around the stereo/climate controls looks like brushed aluminum already...so I'm thinking of Satin nickel but can't find a good picture to get an idea.

Anyone done the satin nickel trim? Anyone done any other kind of trim they like and can post a pic? I already saw the post here

But thats not what i'm looking for really. I need something 3d/molded that me and my wife both like. Suggestions welcome.

  14. Sounds like your credit is good. Go online to Capital One and apply for a loan. It will give you the rate you can get right there. You can have a check mailed to you to use for the loan or wave the rate in front of the finance department and get a lower one. I went in with a Cap One loan and got an incredible rate from the bank at the dealer, they wanted that loan.

Unfortunately I had already signed the new deal at 4.5% instead of sticking to my guns. So this is what I did instead. I looked up the dealer on the BBB, found out the president's name from their website. I googled his name, found he had a LinkedIn account, as do I. I sent him a message on Linked In. About an hour later they call me back and say the "convinced" the bank to honor the 3.8% rate. The power of the consumer at work.

  15. You should have done your homework and secured your own financing ahead of time. This way you're not dependent on the rate they quoted you initially and you don't have to deal with the finance dept. at all if you don't want to. Let's say you can get 3.99% from the credit union - you tell them to beat 3.99% or no deal. Or just take the 3.99% and tell the finance guy to take a hike.

Thats exactly what I did, I had my own financing set up ahead of time, I just let him convince me he was going to give me 3.8%. You are right though, I should have walked out and just went with my original financing. I just didn't want more delays cause we needed the car for a trip we are taking.

  16. Okay, I have a question, because as I should have anticipated the dealer had another trick up his sleeve.

I financed about $10,000 on this car, and the finance guy quoted me a rate of 3.8% over the weekend. Shows me my FICO score yada yada. Tells me that AAA won't honor the rate of 4.09 that they approved me for (I didn't buy that, but I did think he could really get me a better rate).

I tell him well are you going to process the application and he says "I don't need to, this is what we call a buyable deal, anyone is going to approve it".

So I say okay. I go home and come to pick it the car up yesterday and the finance guy pulls me into his office and says the bank came out with a different credit score, so it puts me a tier lower and now I'm stuck with 4.5%. It comes out to just about $3 a month more but its really the principle of the thing.

Heres what I think happened. The finance guy wants to entice me with a low rate, so he pulls my application with the highest of the 3 credit scores from the bureaus. I think they are supposed to use the middle score but I'm not sure. I think he new this but wanted to get me in a position where I'd come when picking up the car and be willing to accept the 4.5% rate. Offcourse the finance guy claims he had no way of knowing that would happen. I don't buy it. What do you guys think?

I'm thinking to post a complaint to the BBB, which incidentally, has on record another complaint for deceptive sales practices from this dealership.

  17. I have had mine fixed once already and within 2 months had the same problem. They had my Edge for 3 days the first time.

Yeah, so I bought a 2008 Limited today, and I am having this problem. Sigh, can't believe I didn't test this out. Still under warranty, but what was the fix for this?

  18. Wouldn't be nice if Ford finally made the Edge hybrid and then you'd get this very cool new feature thats in the 2010 ford hybrids?

I applaud Ford, they really seem serious about innovating and winning back some market share. The only thing I'd worry about is looking at this thing when I should be looking at the road hehehe.

  19. Skip the bug shield. Get the Weathertech vent visors and the bumper protector for the Toyota Scion fits, there is a post about it under the 2008 Edge/MKX section.

    http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?/topic/3905-found-it/page__st__60__p__32262__hl__scion__fromsearch__1&&do=findComment&comment=32262

Yeah wasn't planning on getting the bugshield. I want to put it a wood trim kit, and maybe some ambient lighting in the cup holder and footwells. I want to do it tastefully though, and I don't want the hardware themselves visible at all. I'm thinking to put in a nav system too, but I need to figure out how that can work with the Sync system.

For exterior, was thinking of getting chrome door handles at some point, and maybe running boards if getting my kid in and out of the car seat proves difficult. Bumper protector sounds like a good idea, too.
