  1. I had the opposite problem. Couldn’t turn the dang things off – and couldn’t keep the parking lights from coming on every time a door was opened. It interfered with star-gazing and stalking my ex. Seems that some model-years allow you to turn these functions on/off by pressing various buttons at certain intervals. If so, it’ll be in your owner’s manual. For my 2010 Edge, the Factory Trained Service Advisor, at my Authorized Ford Dealer, initially told me it couldn’t be changed. But, after arguing with him, he agreed to have a Knowledgeable, Factory -Trained, Service-Technician take a look at it. Conclusion: It could be changed, but since the change would require an actual connection to an actual computer, the cost would be $118.
  2. Same problem here – twice. First time: Two of us carefully placed the protector after removing the entire backing. Then we used the supplied squeegee to smooth it out. Once it hit the sun, bubbles developed AND the protector & bumper became wavy. So, when it was hot, I carefully pulled off the protector and trashed it. Then I spent hours removing the remaining glue with naphtha-based solvent. Second time: Like a fool, I got another one. This time, I slit the backing in the middle and slowly removed the backing while pressing with the squeegee and, at the same time, trying to keep the protector aligned on the bumper. First one direction, then the other. This eliminated most of the sun-bubbles, but the waves returned. When I cease being really p’d-off, I’ll remove and trash the second one. Like most Ford accessories, it’s an overpriced piece of crap.
  3. I have the same situation. During walk-around of my Edge, the salesman pointed to the storage bin in the right wall of the cargo area and noted that the base-speaker would go there - if it had one. He said the wiring for the base is wrapped up behind it. I’m wondering if we could just stick a Ford base-speaker and grill in that hole. Don’t know if the existing base-wire is “live” or if something needs to be done at the radio end. If this is possible, we might be able to improve the sound quality at a modest cost and with little effort.
  4. My 2010 Edge FWD SEL has a very annoying engine whir. It sounds like the alternator or a belt tensioner is on steroids. The noise increases with engine RPM, with the AC on or off. It is definitely engine-related. THIS IS NOT THE FUEL PUMP. At 5,000 miles, I took it to the Authorized Ford Dealer where the Certified Ford Service Adviser winced when he heard it. He said “It should not do that.” Four hours later, the Certified Ford Service Adviser called to say . . . . . No Problem Found . . . . That’s Normal . . . . They All Do That . . . . Don’t Worry About It. He wouldn’t accept the argument that the noise itself is the problem. Before I take it to another Certified Ford Service Adviser at another Authorized Ford Dealer, can anyone tell me if they have experienced the same problem and how it was addressed? I’m also wondering if those of you who don’t have the normal annoying engine whir feel somehow cheated.
  5. Thanks for taking the time to reproduce those instructions. Unfortunately, they didn’t work. I tried the procedure at least a half-dozen times. Each time, the horn chirped or honked as indicated, but there was no change to the Perimeter Lighting. Now, that’s really weird! Perhaps there’s an additional step for the 2010 Edge - pay the dealer $118.
  6. As a follow-up to my original question which was: “How can I disable the Illuminated Entry so that the parking-lights and dash-lights don’t come on whenever any door is opened or closed?” I e-mailed Ford Motor Company and received the following response: “Inquiries of a technical nature are best referred to our dealerships . . . They are in the best position to discuss and review your request.” I then went to the dealership, and the service advisor told me: “I don’t know. “ “You’ll need to schedule a service appointment.” A few days later, when I arrived for the appointment, the service advisor said that the illuminated entry CAN NOT be turned off. So, I gave him a copy of this forum with Waldo’s comments. He agreed to have a technician look at it. Four hours later, the service advisor called to say that yes, indeed, the Illuminated Entry could be turned off. But, since they would have to connect it to a computer, it would cost me $118. That’s right - $118 to flip a friggin’ light switch. I declined to pay, and will go on living with: “Hey mister, you left your lights on.” Plus, I get to share this story with future potential Ford customers.
  7. Any other suggestions? I can’t find anything in the Driver Information/Message Center (or in the Owner’s Manual) which tells how to turn OFF the Illuminated Entry/Exit. I’ve set “AUTOLAMP” to zero, but this only affects the headlights. The parking lights & instrument lights still come on for 25 seconds, whenever a door is opened or closed (as discussed on pages 112 & 113 in the Owner’s Manual). On a previous vehicle (Dodge) I was able to disable these lights by simultaneously pressing buttons on the key. I suspect there is some similar feature on the EDGE, but it eludes me.
  8. I just got a new 2010 Edge SEL. The parking lights and dash lights come on whenever a door is opened. Does anyone know how to turn this OFF?
