  1. I would like an ipod holder for my Edge, but am not sure what to get. I don't need one that transmits as the car already has that. I have my cell phone on a holder that clips to the a/c vent. I was thinking of one that goes on the windshield but with the windshield so deep, I don't know if the arm would be long enough to bring the ipod close enough for me to change the channels. (Wish I had the Sync). Anyway, does anyone have something they can recommend. I need it in front of me so I can see the video or change channels. One alternative is to take the cell phone holder down and put an ipod holder up instead, because the cell phone is right where I would like the ipod, but I thought I would check to see if anyone has something that is working well for them.

  2. Ahhhhh......the car is equipped with a satellite antenna, if you got the Sirius radio....this antenna is that squarish black thing that sits on top of the rear dust deflector above the rear window....right above the CHMSL (pronounced "chimsel")

I have yet to see any of the geeks actually put a satellite on their car...I guess it's only a matter of time, though.

I guess I left out a very important word :banghead:

Does anyone know if this is complicated to install.

I'm a piano geek, not an install geek.

  3. To anyone interested in adding iPod to their factory Navigation Radio: Brandmotion now has the iPod Direct Connect PLUS!

We have lowered the price of the Direct Connect on our website to $225 from $245. There is no mention yet on our site of the PLUS adapter. However, we have the new NAV adapter and are offering it for $225 instead of $245 for 30 days only, to celebrate the launch of PLUS.

To get that price, either call us at 877-276-6456 or order on-line for $225 and make a note in your order (there is a special place for comments) that you have the factory nav. We'll make sure you get the right kit. The plan is that the price will go back up to $245 on Oct.1 for the PLUS and stay at $225 for the basic version.

If you have the factory navigation radio, but not a factory SIRIUS receiver, you'll want to get IPDCFD001N. If you have both you'll want the IPDCFD002N. The website doesn't have these part numbers listed so put that in the comments with the words "factory nav".

Besides working with navigation, we increased the search speed and made the steering wheel controls work better for some vehicles.

I just ran across this. I have a question. Do you show a pic of this and what do I need to to use it. Is it all plug in or do I need to get under the hood?

    Thanks.

  4. Last week I lost about 4 buttons on my NAV. They were fading in and out for a while before and now they are completely black. I tried pushing on them anyway and they don't work. I guess it's time for me to take it to the dealer to get it fixed. Kinda hard to use the map when you can't push the button to take you to the screen where you put in the address.

  5. Yesterday, it was very hot. It's been hot all this week in California. As the sun was coming down, I realized it was cool enough to open the BAMR. As I was watching it open up, I saw the most beautiful pink clouds, in the sky. Would have missed it otherwise.

  6. I thought you guys would also like to know that you can get a lot more from your Sirius radio. You can get real time traffic info. There is a monthly fee though.

  7. I thought you all might be interested in this link about having Sirius on your computer if you have it on your car.

Since my Sirius was free for a year, how do I find out my membership info.

I am going to try to download this on my computer now and see what it's about.

  8. I have noticed that every now and then the light on one of the display buttons on the radio actually goes black. It will return but then goes black again. I believe it's the one called channel. If you push on it when it is black it won't work. Is this something that will need to be fixed. And if I wait till the 08's come out do ya think they will replace it with an 08 radio with sync. ;-)

  9. I have noticed that when my car is turned off and parked that the speedometer needle is resting at 5 MPH. I've never seen this on any other car I have driven. Is this a something that needs to be corrected or does it make any difference?

It's not bothering me any, but am curious about it.

Will it show me driving 5 mph that I am actually going? Which would be a good thing really.

  10. I remember in the 70's when my dad bought a new car, he got a can of spray paint and painted over the dealer's name that was all around the license plate. People asked him constantly why he did that and he would tell them he wasn't going to advertise for the dealer. Now a days you can buy new license plates. When I got home the first thing I did was I took off the paper ad and license plate and put on a new one. Thank goodness I didn't have to worry about a chrome badge. Maybe I would have gotten a can of spray paint and painted over it....just kidding.

  11. I had been looking into getting a Ford Expedition and had gone to several dealers, but the price was so over the top. I didn't want another Explorer because the ride was so bad and even my son was complaining about it in the back seat.

I drove a new Explorer at another dealer hoping that the ride had improved and it had not and as I got out I spotted the Edge. I didn't even know what it was or have ever heard of one. I got in and saw the BAMR and the comfortable seats. Then we took it for a test drive and no longer did the passenger feel as though their kidneys were being shifted around. It was like the angels were singing. This is what I had been wanting all along and didn't know it.

  12. First fill I was getting around 24 mpg. Last fill up I was getting 17 mpg (street driving). Then I noticed now I'm getting 14 mpg and figured it was because my husband had been driving. My husband tends to jack rabbit start and such. Anyway, I have been driving the car the last couple of days and it's still saying 14 mpg.

I was wondering if the reading changes every time you turn on the engine or just when you first fill it up?

Also, on the subject of fill up. The low gas message seems to come on when I have a quarter of a tank left and won't stop till I get some more gas. I can't even see the gauge that tells you how much gas you have.

Can anyone educate me on both these things?

  13. I got my Dash Mat. I have a black interior, so I got the black dash mat. There is a 75% improvement with the glare. I would have given it 100% but there is still glare from the center console which is understandable not covered up. There was talk on the forum about the dash mat and that it was kinda hokey and had a dated look, which I agreed with. I do like the look of the leather dash, but the elimination of the glare has to out weigh my preference.

There is still a glare with the chrome piece of the center console, but that is easy to ignore and if I it wasn't, I could throw a black wash cloth over it and it would disappear all together.

For those interested in knowing more, the dash mat is custom for the Edge. It has a slit for the air bags and an opening for the vents. Heck, I'll just put up a picture so everyone can see what it looks like.

p.s. there is a rumple around the console and around the vents as I have not permanently attached it to the dash. I was waiting for it to conform and settle before I did that.

  14. I have the dark amythsus (can never remember how to spell that) and it looks black and I thought it was at the dealer. But, it is so cool, because so many people ask me what color it is. Also, the dark amythsus has lots of sparkle in the paint and you can see it when you are right on top of it in the sun. I wonder is the dark blue is the same way.

  15. Anyone tinted a strip on the windshield at the top? With so much glass, my knees got burned on a long road trip recently! Would it look too pimpy or 70'ish?

I got a strip of tint to go on that had a cool design on it. I was already to put it on (gotta get a ladder) and my husband said it would be too much. So, I got a piece of plain tint to put on. I haven't done it yet. So, I'd like to see what others think. I thought it would be okay.

  16. Any word on whether the Sync system will be availalbe as a retrofit for the 2007 Edge/MKX?

A video of the Sync system is available on Utube - very impressive!

BUT, the steering wheel controls, in the video, reflected a PHONE button on the right side of the steering wheel, which is NOT found on my MKX.

This in itself bodes poorly for a retrofit.

I saw that too, and thought the same thing.

  17. Just wanted to add... I don't want it to sound like I am unhappy with the car. I am in love with it.....and that is why these minor imperfections bother me.

The evening I bought my Edge the dealer told me that he usually does a walk around to check the vehicle but since it was dark that he told me to do it the next day and if I saw anything to let him know. He even followed up with a phone call a few days later to make sure everything was alright, and I didn't find anything and I was happy.

With that, I would call the dealer and tell him when you washed the car you noticed these things and see what he says.

I felt very confident that if there way anything wrong with my car that the dealer would have fixed it, so I am hoping that you will find the same with your dealer.

  18. After rolling in to the Vons parking lot and heading toward the sun and almost not seeing a pedestrian crossing because they were in the glare, I decided to try different things to eliminate the glare.

This weekend with the help of a friend, I tried my own experiment to try to get rid of the glare. I had the front windshield facing the sun as that is when the glare is at its worst.

Putting up dark material on passenger and driver windows to simulate tinted windows. It has been mentioned on the forum that tinting the windows would help. Result: No change in the glare

Same thing with light material. Result: No change in the glare.

Closing up vista roof trying again. Result: No change in the glare.

Shading very top of front windshield to create shade on the outside. Result: Only helped the part that was shaded. Can't shade whole window; law won't let me. So much for that idea.

Covered dash with light material to simulate dash mat. Result: Not much help and dash reflected it back like a mirror.

Covered dash with dark material to simulate dash mat. Result: Hey, now this seems to be working. Not perfect but a more than 50% improvement in seeing out the window.

Combined this last idea with covering the passenger window and driver window and closing the vista window. No difference.

End result, a black dash mat worked for me and tinting the side windows will not be necessary.

Try your own experiments and see if it matches mind or is different. Or let me know if you come up with other ideas.

Oh, and also tried this with and without sunglasses and with sunglasses and the black material on the dash was the best result.

  19. Just posted 1 pic of my edge with the front windows tinted (was done today). And I am still waiting on my 22" wheels to arrive from california.....295-40/22 tires will be here in a few days. Went with the General Grabber UHP's...tire rack had them rated at #1 by customers, so i went with them....cool tread design!!! :shades:

Are the fronts as dark as the back? I think I read that you tinted them to 15?

I'm in California and would like to darken my windows but want it to look good and not get a ticket. So, I was wondering if yours were "legal"

I've got the windows super dark (darker than legal) on the Monte and have gotten a couple of tickets. I just don't want to worry about that with the Edge.

I'm sold on the idea of darkening the windows as it'll keep it cooler and help cut down the glare, but don't want to bother if I can't get them dark enough to help.
