Factory sub replacement choices??

Recommended Posts

Ok...I'm going to replace the factory sub with aftermarket and then keep everything else (including amp & enclosure) stock. I think I narrowed it down to 2 choices....JL Audio 8W1V2-4 and Rockford Fosgate P3SD4-8. I have used a RF Punch shallow sub before and have good luck with it. Only thing is the JL Audio is single 4 ohm voice coil and the RF Punch is dual 4 ohm voice coil. I'm not sure which voice coil set up I should use to replace the factory sub...single or dual. Thanks in advance for any help/info.

Hi did you ever figure out which sub to use? I am also wanting to change out my factory sub but leave every thing else stock.

I ended up using a Kicker Comp RT shallow mount sub. It fit in good...only had to use self tapping screws to mount it bacause the mounting holes didn't line up. It doesn't really sound louder...but it does sound cleaner and doesn't distort like the factory sub did.

Did you hook it up to the factory amp or did you use an aftermarket amp?

I've been contemplating upgrading my sub too, but there isn't a lot of concise information out there about what works and what doesn't. I was hoping for a little more volume and cleaner sound without putting a box in the cargo area.

Here is what I have been thinking of doing:

LC2i line out converter

Soundstream PN1.450D amp (mount the amp and the LOC in the tray next to the spare tire)

Kicker 40CWD82 (I heard that it might be just barely shallow enough at 3-7/8")

Any other advice that you, or any others, could share would be great. Thanks.
