  1. I really like the White Sand Tri-coat and am now debating which color interior to go with and wanted to see what others on the board have chosen.

My dealer recently received a White Sand Limited with camel interior. I was originally thinking about going with the charcoal or med light stone, but have seen the camel and now it is a consideration too. The problem is that I can't actually see those interioirs in the White Sand so deciding has been difficult.

I thought charcoal initially because I liked the look of it, with the contrasting stitching, plus it ties in the black lower strip around the exterior of the Edge. I think it would also be least likely to show dirt. The only problem is that everything is black, so not a lot of contrast and everything runs together.

I also thought that the med light stone would be nice because it is closest to the color of the car and matches the door trim and headbaord. Although it is probably the most likely to show anything, dirt, scuff marks, etc.

I now have seen the camel and it looks nice as well. I like the black contrasting stitching that matches the dash and some of the trim and the camel matching the door inserts.

So if you have the white sand, please tell me which interior you went with and why as well as your likes and dislikes with your choice. If you don't have the white sand but have any comments on the different interiors and their pluses and minuses I would appreciate them as well.

My '08 is White Sand with the camel interior and I really like the contrast the black dash and trim gives it. Glare is non-existent. I put in a black Weathertech cargo protector so the entire cargo area is also black.

  2. I am soory that Ford seems to think grab handles are no longer necessary. Over the past 8 years I have had a Mountaineer and an Escape and love the grab handles............

Are there aftermarket grab handles available?

My Edge replaced a 2003 Expedition and I don't miss the grab handles. I used them alot in the Expd. but that was because I was stepping up into it but since I sit down in the Edge, I don't need them.

  3. Hi there....Actually, I have listened to it, and had a few others listen to it, and if you will ask someone to listen to the passenger side, the noise comes from there also...

My friends and I have come to a possible conclusion...we think it is the chrome clad wheels making the noise...

See if you think the same...see if you can hear it from all sides....

I think it is the chrome clad popping...making some noises....Not sure why though!

:shades: I hate to be the one to say it but, I told you so. Mine starts creaking when I open the garage door and the cold air hits the wheels. I can live with it. Gives it character.

  4. Yes!!!

That is strange...I hear the same thing, I noticed it while backing out of my garage, it was echoing in there. I called Ford, and I told them to check it out. Told them it almost sounded like a rock stuck in my rim somewhere.

    Wonder what this is...

Very surprised now knowing someone else is hearing the same exact noise...Left rear wheel...

    I have a 2008 White Sand w/ 20's

I am taking it to Ford in the morning!

I think it is the chrome clad wheels creaking. I think there's another thread on the subject.

  5. Once again I'm almost positive that kmhibbs has the medium light stone interior, NOT the camel interior. So it won't be a good comparison. If not I apologize.

I am totally positive that I have the camel interior with a black dash and trim. I don't know what's going on with the gallery so I've posted pics below.

  6. Well, we will obviously see what it looks like when it arrives. I went to the Ford web site and pulled up the on-line brochure. The pic of the Limited interior in camel sure shows a black or very dark dash. Other pictures also show darker trim on the doors. Can anyone who actually has a 2008 with camel interior take and post some interior pics? If the changed the doors and are going for a two tone look then it may well be fine. It should certainly help with the glare issues reported by 2007 owners with the camel dashes. We ordered before the 2008 brochures and on-line info. were available so we had nothing to go by but what they were doing on the 2007 models. We wil keep an open mind and see what it looks like. If anyone can post pics of the entire interior it would really be appreciated. Ours is supposed to be built the week of 11/19 before Thanksgiving so we should have it by early December.

Look in the gallery. I've posted several pics of my 2008.

  7. Nope - they're all black. I'm sure it was to address the glare problem with the light dash. I think it looks a lot better. You should go look at one before making a final judgement.

I agree. I compared a 2007 Creme Brulee with Camel to my 2008 White Sand with Camel and I much prefer the black dash to the camel dash. Classier, in my humble opinion.

  8. The only reason to order is to get exactly what you want and not one thing more or less. Too often my local dealer will have trailer tow on most vehicles but that's something I'm not interested in. If you are lucky enough to have found one on the dealer lot that matches your order exactly then go for it. There is no other advantage to ordering.

I agree. If it has what you want go for it!

  9. Can someone confirm that the dash is black on the 08's with a camel interior. I saw it in the 08 brochure and I like it so I want to verify before I order. I thought I saw this discussed in a previous post, but I couldn't find it again.

If it matters, I will be ordering:

    '08 FWD Limited

    Black w/ camel interior

    BAMR

    Nav

    Tow

    mats

    cargo mgt sys

    sirius

I can confirm it. Dash is black with camel interior and looks fantastic.

  10. You don't have to listen to all the options every time. Here are a few options for you:
    1. Use "Advanced Interaction" mode
    2. Simply barge-in when SYNC is speaking

Let me explain these options in a little more detail.

Advanced Interaction mode cuts down on the "explanatory" prompts that SYNC utters and speeds up voice interaction considerably without you having to do anything. To enable this mode, press the Voice button and, after SYNC is listening to you, say "Interaction mode advanced". Once enabled this mode will persist until you change it back again. To revert to the standard voice mode, press Voice and say "Interaction mode standard"

The other option, barge-in does not require any changes. It simply means that you can interrupt SYNC at any time by pressing the Voice key and SYNC will immediately start listening. So if you know what to say you can interrupt it right away and speak your command.

Note, that you can use barge-in at any time, even with advanced interaction mode.

Hope this makes your SYNC user experience less clunky. Let me know if you have any questions,

Hitting the voice button twice will allow you to barge in but I cannot get it to recognize "Interaction Mode Advanced". No matter how I say it it just tells me to enter a recognized command, such as help, menu, USB.....

  11. When using SYNC, you need to tell it what device you'd like to hear (AM, FM, CD, USB, etc)...so what I mean by "clunky" is that you must activate SYNC, then the "voice" recites all of the options before you are permitted to make a selection. This is great the first time you use it, however I don't need to hear the entire list everytime I wish to use my ipod. Since your ipod plugs into the USB connection, which is at the end of the list, you must wait for all of the recitation before it will accept your selection. It would seem that you should just be able to hit the button and say "USB", then whatever artist you wish to hear.

Remember that this is new, so there be a shortcut or two that we have not yet discovered...however there is a readout on the Nav screen that says "listening" when it is time for you to talk. This does not display until after all of the options are read.

The White Sand is fantastic...very deep, metallic-looking and slightly off-white.

I don't have to wait everytime for Sync to recite the options. It says enter a command, I say USB and away we go.

  12. kmhibbs,

Is the interior carpet white in color? Looked at your pics and can only see a little of it. Looks nice, but am guessing that it will be hard to keep it that color for long. In one picture it looks like you got the rubber floor mats. Did you also get one for the rear storage?

Do you know if the carpet is the same color for the camel and stone interiors?

    Clayton

The carpet is tan. I did get the all weather mats and am really satisfied with their weight and quality. I took the regular floor mats, put them in a plastic bag and placed them in storage. I have ordered a Weathertech black rear cargo mat that should come in in the next week or so.

  13. hello

is it true that you can't get 2008 Ford edge limited AWD with 20" wheels?

    spinalqueen

My 2008 AWD Limited has 20" wheels, so unless something has drastically changed you can get 20" wheels on an AWD Limited.

  14. I plugged in my 2 gb flash drive which was full of songs and it worked instantly. And it was fast too. Unlike when I put 100+ mp3 songs a CD, the MP3 could search and skip thru songs as fast as you could push the button. Basically makes the 6 disc CD changer obsolete and irrelevant in my opinion. I ordered a 4 gb flash drive from Newegg for $30 shipped. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820233027 With the ability to pull up music so fast I decided I wanted more selection.

I suspect that a USB laptop drive will also work. That would give you an enormous amount of space. I haven't tried it yet but it should work.

  15. Ahoy Maties..

So, i finally ordered my 2008 Limited Edge.-FWD

    Here we go...

    2008-White Sand CC w/camel interior

    20 inch rims

    Trailer tow package

    All Weather Mats

    BAMR

    Navi system

    Power liftgate

    Cargo Mgmt

    Sat radio

    ---Plus

    DVD headrests (dealership installed)

    And

    Remote Start system (dealer Installed)

    Cannot wait!

    :woohoo::headspin:

EXCELLENT! You won't be sorry you went with the camel interior. Ford did a really nice job on the interior. I compared it to an '07 with camel interior today and there is absolutely no comparison. The '08 is much more stylish and appealing.

I agree that the world will spin slower now as you wait for your baby to arrive. It's so fun watching new parents.

  16. Well, we just got back from our first long trip. We drove from Midland, TX to Alamogordo, NM and back, 778.2 miles and averaged 25.6 MPG. It actually hit 26.0 for a while until there were a bunch of stops and changes in the speed limit. There were no mechanical glitches and we really enjoyed having satellite radio for the first time. The seats are much more comfortable than those in our old Durango. So far, so good!

What a coincidence! My first road trip was to Midland last week.
