  1. Been many a year since I last posted here but I still own my 2011 MKX Limited. It has about 183k kilometres. It's primarily my wife's daily driver but a recent upgrade I made from MFT to Sync 3 has reinvigorated me to try and spruce up the rest of the vehicle. Some of the adventures we've had... Often it doesn't start. That is to say pushing the start/stop button often elicits only a click. Over and over and over. Sometimes waiting a few extra seconds or using the fob lock/unlock or pressing the brake pedal for a long time seems to help. Otherwise you've just got to be patient. New fob batteries make no difference and the dealer has no clue how to fix it. Other times it starts just fine many times in a row. It's really just an annoyance but I wouldn't recommend it as a getaway vehicle. One keyfob refuses to function in any conventional way but still works to start the vehicle if placed in the secret pocket. Things gone wrong include failure of the adjustable up/down in/out steering wheel: it makes the proper sounds but it ain't ever gonna move. Dealer wants over $1000 to fix that one but since it doesn't really bother us, that's not going to be fixed. The rear-view camera hasn't worked consistently (or at all) in years but I've got a replacement camera on order from Amazon and with the help of a excellent Youtube video showing the whole procedure done on a 2011 Edge, it shouldn't be hard to replace. I should have done that a long time ago but the dealership's quote of $1200 put me off. Both rear taillights are cracked for no known reason, I intend to get replacements from a wrecker some day. Come to think of it, the dealer also wants over a grand for those pieces of plastic. Like many others, the brake booster failed and was replaced last year. Other than paying about a hundred dollars for an independent mechanic to diagnose it, Ford covered the replacement cost under their extended warranty, Lucked out there because I had totally forgotten about that letter Ford sent me about the issue maybe 8 years ago... The APIM (Sync 2) module has been gradually failing for many years. To the point where there was no screen display at all for almost a month. Which was what finally motivated me to replace the whole rotting system with a Sync 3 replacement kit. Very pleased with how that worked out. But now I notice there's apparently an outstanding recall for that Sync 2 APIM module, something my dealer never mentioned in the many times the vehicle been in the shop. Maybe they'll just give me one, no install required. Also an outstanding recall on the door latch which I've never had an issue with. The Power Transfer Unit is suspect. Last year for apparently the first time, the quick oil change place I always use checked the oil level in it - and there wasn't any. No apparent leakage, just no oil that they could detect. A mechanic told me that isn't all that unusual because at high temperatures, oil in such a small reservoir can essentially evaporate over time. So much for Ford's magic lifetime fluid. I'll be getting the PTU fluid changed soon along with coolant, transmission, rear differential and brake fluid (or would that brake booster replacement have already accomplished that?). The 3.7l engine has started to use a bit of oil, getting close to the add oil level between oil changes. And that crazy signal light failure? At LEAST 9 replacements of the driver-side front bulb over the years. I note the dealership supplies a different model bulb than what is specified in the manual, but that particular bulb doesn't seem to be available anymore. I also note that those bulbs get real hot real fast so maybe it's normal to have to replace them often? Only a couple of replacements of the passenger side bulb which is fortunate because I find it impossible to get that one fully back in the light socket. My improvised duct tape retention device has held up better than expected though. Is there some tool to aid removal/replacement??
  2. Mine 2011 MKX has been suffering from this non-random "shuffle" for most of the past year so I'd also like to know if there's a solution?
  3. Yeah I discovered that a while back when I tried to experiment with it. The bigger question is does having a wifi connection provide any useful functionality whatsoever??? It's not like Ford is ever going to provide a web browser like was promised when I bought my vehicle 28 months ago. One might think if Ford is intent on simplifying by stripping away features, why wouldn't they start with this?
  4. Contact photos worked from day 1. On a couple of phones anyway like my ancient Blackberry. Of course it didn't work on anything more modern because, you know, it isn't Ford's fault that technology advances.
  5. I was surprised that my dealer (who has caused me all sorts of grief in the past) called me a couple of weeks ago to advise me of a MyLincolnTouch RECALL which consisted simply of the 3.5.1 update. The invoice even has "Recall" printed on it. Thought it strange that they would want to term such a thing as a recall.
  6. Good question, I just wanted to experiment with it. See if there was just the tiniest bit of useful functionality there. I guess I just leave that to my imagination.
  7. Just got the latest 3.5.1 update installed (dealer termed it a RECALL). When I try to input the password for my home wifi network which consists of numbers and letters I discover I am unable to enter anything other than numbers because the other keyboards are completely ghosted. Anyone else see this?
  8. My heated seats (and heated steering wheel) have not turned on with remote start yet this winter. It's been well below freezing but probably no more than -12C or so. They did turn on some of the time last winter - it's as if the temperature at which they should be turning on is set way to low. Driver and passenger seats and steering wheel set to Auto of course. Anyway it's another one of those MFT (err, MLT) issues so maybe the next update will fix it. Whatever, I have worse issues with this vehicle...
  9. I had this transmission lurching when accelerating from low speed conditions since my MKX was new. After the dealer performed (I believe) TSB 11-5-6, it seemed like it was fixed since it did not reoccur for about a year. However for the past several months the problem has reappeared and it is worse than it was before. It is now virtually a daily occurrence but the dealer can not reproduce it nor are there any error codes being generated. A few of these "bad shifts" are very severe and almost feel like someone has hit me from behind. My dealer really doesn't seem to care. This dealer has been a continuing source of frustration for this and several other issues I've have/had but they are the only Lincoln dealer anywhere near me. They can't even confirm that the TSB they implemented was indeed 11-5-6. I'm not sure what I should be do now, other than looking into buying an extended warranty.
  10. I had the harsh shift problem when accelerating from a low speed when my vehicle was new. After I had the TSB work done it was fine - for about a year. Now it's back and worse in terms of frequency than ever. And a few of those shifts feel like someone has rammed you from behind. Of course the dealer can't find any error codes and can't reproduce the issue (I hate my dealer but they're the only one around). So nothing is ever going to be done I assume, unless Ford brings out an updated TSB related to this issue. I guess I will have no choice but to buy an extended warranty.
  11. My 2011 MKX was as well. Dealer recently replaced the PTU pinion seal. Leak developed after about 25K kilometers.
  12. Never attribute to conspiracy that which can be adequately explained by stupidity. Since I purchased my MKX 1.7 years ago, I've seen plenty of examples of Ford's incompetence.
  13. Last winter I discovered an unpleasant side effect of my MKX having a power steering column adjustment - in colder weather every time the steering column moves in and out (as it does as part of every memory seat setting) it emits a squeal. The colder the weather, the louder the squeal. The frustrating part of it is that it seems my dealership is unable to fix it. When I took it in last winter to have the service dept. deal with it, they couldn't reproduce the sound. Not a surprise because despite me telling them it is cold weather related (i.e. below freezing) they brought it into the heated service area to test. This winter I waited till it finally got cold enough and got the service manager to see, or rather hear, it for himself. So I was told they lubricated the column and were "pretty sure" they fixed it. Of course they never tested it outside and now it's even worse, it pretty much shrieks now. I'm not sure if the Ford Edge has this functionality but has anyone else experienced this? It's not a big deal but it's darned annoying (and sometimes embarrassing) and it seems like yet another part of my $50K vehicle that Ford can't truly fix (joining MLT, transmission lurches, and misaligned window moldings).
  14. Mine was also built in Sept. 2010 and the 2.11 update took 44 minutes for me.
  15. Wow, Ford has discovered the hardware has a dedicated graphics controller they can make use of and they have even "borrowed the concept of beta testing". Things are definitely looking up.
  16. Must be an online converter somewhere that can convert litres/100 kms to MPG... In any event with my wife driving around town (she of the much more gentle foot compared to me) our MKX (3.7 L engine) gets only about 12.5 L/100 km. It's a bit better in the summer but still well below the government estimates on the window sticker. In fact it never really gets close, city or highway. I don't worry too much about it, it's still a heck of a lot better than the pickup truck I have to drive much of the time.
  17. I used to be mildly entertained by the new faults I would discover with the MLT on my MKX. But it's been quite a while since I had a brand new one, in fact 2.11 has been working rather well for the last couple of months. Yesterday though I opened the locked passenger door, sat down and watched the screen turn on all by itself. I watched the Sync "scheduled" service reboot sequence, after which I had a fully functioning Sync system. Neat trick considering at no time did I touch the start button or enable aux. power. I wonder how often my vehicle's Sync system reboots itself and plays the radio while I'm not around?
  18. I found that the 10-way power passenger seat in my MKX can be powered reclined far enough back to be reasonably flat enough for certain carrying tasks. It's not ideal but it is better than most reclining seat backs.
  19. I hope I live long enough to see the farce that is DST relegated to the dustbin of history. Kudos to those who decided not to subject the citizens of Arizona and Saskatchewan to it.
  20. Well most of the features work most of the time so I guess I'm satisfied. I don't bother anymore to sync my phone because I'll just have to do it again in a few days or weeks. For long trips I bring along my portable GPS so I don't have to rely on the built-in navigation. Once in a while and after several tries, I can stream audio via bluetooth from my cell phone and I think that that is rather neat so I'm happy then. The clock almost always keeps the right time, and when it doesn't I always have my watch on me. My friends think it looks pretty.
  21. I'm still trying to figure out why that cargo floor mat always, always, always ends up shifted over to one side where it covers up the hatch close switch!
  22. As a Canadian owner who has endured a very disappointing MLincolnT experience for over a year, I was uncomfortable to read that while US owners will receive a flash device with updated software, Ford hasn't decided yet what to do with the 200K owners outside of the US. I suspect we will get the update dealer installed and only after a significant delay. And about that lack of support - my dealer's service department has been pretty bad (sadly not just about MFT) but I don't doubt their frustration when they tell me about how Ford isn't providing them with much useful information or tools to improve MFT.
  23. I wanted to go with Bridgestone Blizzaks as they always seem to among the top rated winter tires and I could have got them at a very good price from Costco. Unfortunately Costco would not install them on my MKX because they are 3 speed ratings below the stock 20" Pirelli all-seasons (Costco has some pretty anal tire installation policies). I ended up getting them to install Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow which have the same speed rating as stock. The good thing about these tires is that the size I got - 235/65R/18 - are extra-load rating (a good idea for a relatively heavy SUV) and rated highly for dry roads which always end up being the majority of my winter driving. Oh yeah, I can also drive continuously on them at 170 km/hr. As if.
  24. After the wife had an unfortunate incident with a curb, I replaced the original 20" Pirelli with the identical tire sourced from Costco. For $179 Cdn. Certainly it would have cost far more if purchased from the dealer.
  25. Thanks for that. This is how it is for me: Shade opening or shade closing requires continuous pressing. One touch press opens glass 2/3 of the way. Have to hold button constantly to open the rest of the way. To close glass requires continuous pressing. I'll just add it to the impressively long list of things that don't-quite-work-the-way-they-are-supposed-to. My dealer's service dept. already probably hates me (the feeling is mutual).
