  1. Un-synced my phone and did a master reset on Version 2.11 this morning

Installed the update on the way home from work this afternoon.

Started the Edge and waited for the update to start and then started my daily commute

Everything was done in about 40 min. well ahead of getting home in rush hour.

Nav card installed, phoned synced - Good to go .

PS. I had a new APIM installed a while back when I had the dreaded black screen of death on Version 2.8

  2. Update: Just got off the phone with Ford and they confirmed that my update had not been mailed and it would be 'several weeks' (couldn't narrow it down) before I would receive my update. They kept apologizing for the delay in mailing to Canadian customers and couldn't (or wouldn't) give a reason for the delay.

From what some of the owners in the USA have posted it looks like their packages don't have any French writing or labeling.

I'm starting to think the "Rumor " I heard from a source inside Ford is starting to have some merit

Once a Canadian finally gets a mail copy i'd be interested to see if the packaging is the same, then we will know what the delay really was.

  3. I need help with a proven method of getting the MFT system to work as a hotspot for a road trip so others in the Edge can surf their iPhones, Mac books. ( Canadian Roaming would cost an arm and a leg)

I live in Canada and will be travelling the West Coast of USA ( Seattle, Oregon,San Francisco)

I think i will need to purchase a USA, MIFI or USB Broadband device from a USA carrier ( Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, Virgin mobile etc.) - Looks like a couple of companies offer a no contract, pay as you go option.

Only really need for when travelling in the Edge as our stops and destinations have Wifi access

Is anyone on the West Coast using a method that works with MFT?

I am hoping to have the new MFT update sometime in April if Ford ever mails it to Canada, otherwise I will be running MFT 2.11

Thanks in advance for your help with this

    Travis

  4. Has anyone in Canada received their package yet? I've not downloaded it yet as I required my GPS a few times in the past couple of weeks, however I think I'm good now. I'll download it if the SD should be delivered soon, but I don't want to go weeks without it.

    No package yet.

I got the original mailer in January saying it was coming soon.

  5. I'm in Kitchener and just chatted with Wielland Ford Service department and she just read the memo about the upgrade and it indicates that the customers will be notified by end March.

The interesting comment from her whether true or not, is that it is DEALER INSTALLED!!! Also, the memo states that it will take 1.5 hours to 2.0 hours.

Is there more in our upgrade?

I heard a rumor from my dealer that the Canadian version was in the mailroom for dealers and then got held back.

Something about it was missing the bilingual aspect (French) , fix should be done by end of March.

Don't know if the program was missing French or the labeling on the package

  6. I have a 2011 Ford Edge Sport with the Navigation

I was having problems with MFT 2.11 ( Instead of getting the Ford logo at start up I was getting the main menu screen? followed by lock up) and the dealer did a master reset and all my Nav Favourites are now gone.

Is there a way I should be backing these up or saving them somehow so I can recover the info after a Master Reset.

With the pending upgrade coming i guess there is no reason to re-enter the info at this time.

    Thanks

  7. We bought our Edge in Toronto in June 2011 and in spite of getting all software upgrades, we have to pull off the road almost daily to disconnect the battery. Master reset does not work, and after all these reboots we have given up on saving anything to favorites because everything vanishes.

Yesterday alone, we lost both USB ports, bluetooth, voice command, the Nav system, touch controls on the screen (see photo) and ultimately got the Black Screen of Death!

We asked Ford to consider changing the APIN to see if that would lessen the issues since ours seem more frequent than most.

Ford US has flatly refused and told us to wait for the new software and live with it in the meanwhile. A heavy handed approach from a company selling a defective system.

We wanted to try a North American vehicle and Ford was the manufacturer with a great reputation. Now I count the days until I trade this vehicle in and run back to Toyota or Nissan where we experienced reliability for the past 20 years.

I would advise anyone thinking about a new vehicle to avoid this one and perhaps avoid Ford all together. The customer service is atrocious.

The Main reason i stay with Ford other than the fact that they have some great products is SEVICE DEPT @ Key West Ford.

The service advisors and service manager at this location are top notch, They treat my cars the way they would want theirs treated

If its not right, They always make it right

  8. Hi tmbubell. :D Just as an FYI to avoid confusion for others: If I am reading your post correctly, you have accidentally swapped part of the explanation (for lack of a better description) in the read highlighted area.

To explain: Going from the summer 22's to the winter 17's, if the speedometer/odometer is not corrected when you install your winter wheels it will read ~4.3% too fast. That means that when your speedometer reads 60 mph your actual speed will be ~57.4 mph. In other words, the actual vehicle speed will be slower than the speedometer reading.

Now in the spring when you switch from the winter 17's to the summer 22's, the speedometer will then read ~4.5% too slow, meaning that when the speedometer reads 60 mph, the actual vehicle speed will then be ~62.7 mph. In other words, the actual vehicle speed will be faster than the speedometer reading.

These figures can be verified here - LINK - Tire Size Calculator

Not a big deal at all, but just wanted to keep anyone from getting confused about the entire "slower/faster" speedometer reading thing. Hope this information helps. :grouphug:

    Good luck. :beerchug:

PS - Of course, on a side note, the need for any speedometer recalibration at all could have been avoided entirely by purchasing 235/70-17's (if available) instead of 235/65's. But that is another story.

    See attached report from 1010tires.com

This report and Miata's report are different in a couple of areas

Revolutions per mile seems to be the biggest difference

    Whos right?

  9. I am curious why met re-programmed for different size wheels. As long as overall Dia. is the same there should be no need to change the met settings. Are you able to make these changes yourself or do you have to go to dealer? I have 20" summer which are 245/50/20 and I am installing winter tires which are 245/60/18 both overall Dia. is 29.6".

As for gas mileage I have the ecoboost on my 2012 I am averaging 25-29 us mpg in the city according to the onboard computer. On the highway around 58 mph I can get upwards of 37 us mpg but it does drop rapidly even for 60 mph.

The MFT has a section in it that the Ford techs can get to and reprogram tire sizes to keep your Speedometer accurate

The standard 22" wheels come with a tire size of 265/40/22

The 17" steel wheels with tires are considered a minus size at 235/65/17

The diameter difference of this tire package is 4.36 %

Speedometer difference of 4.551% too fast

So if they didn't adjust for the tire size My Edge would be reading 60mph/100kmh when the Edge was really doing 62.7mph/ 104kmh

The service manager explained it to me and it sounded like it was a simple drop down menu with a list of tire sizes to select from.

This minus tire size wasn't in the MFT system and they had to download the update from Ford before programming it in my Edge

  10. Here is what i am observing

    2011 Ford Edge Sport 3.7L- V6. AWD

With 22" Sport wheels and tires on, computer says 13.9L/per100KM approx 509 KM Per tank on fill up. 50/50 Mixed Driving Freeway, rush hour crawl, city driving

15 fill ups averaging the same

With 17" Steel Wheels & Snow Tires on, computer says 12.7L/per100KM approx 617 KM Per tank on fill up. Same 50/50 Mixed Driving Freeway, rush hour crawl, city driving

MFT was programmed with new winter tire size settings to keep speedo correct

7 fill ups averaging the same

  11. I purchased the apple composite AV Cable for my iphone 4. http://store.apple.com/ca/product/MC748ZM/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOQ

I can play movies that i have on the phone using the iphone to select , start and stop the movie on the screen while in the MFT AV screen

I'll double check the proceedure as I have only used it a couple of times

I have MFT 2.11 with a new Apim module as mine died a couple months ago

    Checked Video Play

I can get the video to run from my iphone 4 two ways.

    1. Using the Apple composite AV Cable plugged into my phone and using the AV connections in the center console. (Iphone 4 Running on battery.)

I can go to the videos on my phone and select one and play using the iphone 4 controls.

Video / Movie covers the full 8" screen

    2. Using the Apple composite AV Cable plugged into my phone & the USB cable plugged into the USB in the center console and using the AV connections in the center console I can control the videos using the MFT interface - Video plays in widscreen mode..

    AppleAVCable.jpg

  12. That's how I tried it... didn't work then.

Looks like there's another thing I need to bring up.

  13. I went with 235/65/17 BFgoodrich Slalom KSI

    (4) Black Steel Wheels

    (4) 235/65/17 BFgoodrich Slalom KSI

    (4) TPMS

Brand New Set up: installed, mounted, balanced , Taxes, enviro fees, OTD $ 1,194 Canadian (- Minus $50 BFgoodrich mail in rebate, dealer 100 bonus air miles) Total OTD Cost $ $1,144

The dealer reprogrammed my edge sport awd to match the new tire size so the speedo is accurate

Fitment is good and no clearance issues

The only difference i felt in the braking and handling was it seemed a bit easier to turn the steering wheel, less resistance

    Update

Gas mileage and acceleration has improved with the smaller tires

  14. It would be nice if it were to land on Christmas... highly doubted though.

Took the Fiesta in today to get the snow tires put on from the Canadian winter promotion

The service manager talked to me about my Edge and said that he is expecting the new upgrade on January 13, 2012.

He said I can expect a letter from Ford early in the new year re: update.

  15. Quote from letter.

Early next year, owners located in the U.S. will be mailed a USB flash drive with the software

upgrade for installation that they can do at their own convenience. If they prefer, owners may

also visit their local Ford or Lincoln dealer for the software installation. The upgrade mailing will

include instructions informing owners how to simply plug the USB flash drive into the MyFord

Touch Media Hub’s USB port in order for installation to automatically begin.

Does anyone know what the plan is for Canadian Vehicles ?

  16. Has anyone else experienced the following weird glitch with the vista roof?

I had the Vista roof popped up the other morning and went to close it and it wouldn't close.

Tryed both buttons to close and nothing.

I then tried the auto open button and it opened to the standard open position, I then tried to close and nothing

pushed the open button again and it moved to the fully open position, tried to close and nothing.

Turned the Edge off and tried to close on Aux power , nothing

Open and closed the door to get out of aux power.

Turned the Edge back on, tried the vista roof buttons again , still wouldn't closed

Finally on the third try of restarting the Edge the Vista roof buttons came back to life and I was able to close the roof fully

  17. Hit First Glitch

Listening to Sirius and I went through a tunnel and lost reception,

Screen now has a box ( No Signal) in the middle of the screen that wont go away even though the station is coming in crystal clear now

Box is only there when listening to Sirius- Change to AM/FM radio and box is not there

    MFTScreen-1.jpg

Went back through the tunnel after work, lost the reception and MFT took the box away this time :happy feet:

  18. September 14, 2011

Edge at shop Sept 8, 2011 to Sept 14, 2011

APIN installed and system upgraded to 2.11.

Seems that the APIN is also an updated version, according to service advisor Ford has revamped the APIN modules.

System seems to be working smoothly.

I noticed on the new version that when you open a door the screen doesn't come up with the ford logo, just a light blue glow until you turn the ignition /aux on then the Ford logo comes on and then the system is ready to go in 3 or 4 seconds

    So far so good
