  1. For anyone else who finds this: From the linked thread above: "Removing that annoying lock that holds the headrest in. just get 1 small alan wrench and use the short end to make this all work for u. Email me if you have problems. This works on all 4 headrests, front and back. insert short end of alan wrench into the small hole on the plastic piece, and pry back easily, it will pop right out and then the headrests will slide out. Reinstall in reverse order. the plastic lock will "click" when u have inserted it in fully and correctly.", worked fine. However, "To remove the headrests, simply straighten the outermost end of a paperclip, raise the headrest to its uppermost position, insert the paperclip into the small hole on the plastic headrest guide, and press firmly while pulling upwards on the headrest." Did not work. No amount of fiddling around seemed to make that method work for me. -- Joe
  2. No offense, but are you perhaps somewhat large of stature? I'm 6'3", and significantly overweight, if not quite obese. I find that if I pull the seatbelt out just a bit too far when buckling it, it pulls past the point where the mechanism is *supposed* to lock, causing me to have to allow it to fully retract and buckle it over again (more carefully) if I want to be able to move around at all with the seatbelt on. Just an idea... Joe
  3. I see that several people have mentioned changing their headrests or reversing them. We're actually not unhappy with them, but the handle on my son's booster seat digs pretty severely into the headrest where his seat is located. Since the headrest itself doesn't really do anything for him, and I'm concerned about wearing of the leather over time, I'd like to pull that one out. However, I can't get it (or any) of the headrests out. I'm sure there is a trick I'm missing, but I can't find it in the manual anywhere. I thought that maybe the button used to put the headrest back down after extending it might just need to be held in, but that doesn't seem to do the trick. I did see that on the other mount point there is a little plastic cover that looks like it is meant to be removable -- but I don't want to go prying it out unless I know it's required to remove the headrest. Can anyone help me out? Thanks, Joe
  4. Any thoughts on whether this is a problem for 2008? We just took delivery on a 2008 AWD model last week after a lengthy (4 months) battle with Ford regarding an unrelated problem that began with our 2007 last July. As much stress as that situation has generated, I sure hope we don't have a likely major repair in our near future. -- Joe
  5. Wow, that looks great! I hadn't thought to want one of these, but it seems like a no brainer. The bumper is going to get scuffed without it, sooner or later. I AM disappointed that no sill protectors came on it, though. As soon as I see some that are custom made for the Edge, I think we'll have to pick some up. What do you recommend for making sure the surface is wax-free? I'd always heard that Dawn dishwasher soap does a thorough but gentle job of removing wax from a car finish, but was never entirely sure how true that was. Thanks for the pics and instructions. J
  6. If anyone has actually tried this product, I'd love to hear what your experiences with it have been... Thanks! J
  7. We bought an Edge to replace my wife's aging Audi A4 this weekend. (Interesting shift, I know, but in addition to getting old, the A4 wasn't the good choice for our lifestyle that it was when we bought it.) My wife found this forum a few days ago, and I've read through a lot of the old posts -- including the build date discussions. We bought an AWD SE with a few options, which had been a dealer demo. (7K on the odometer) (And we love it, by the way. My wife has really had her eye on the Edge since she saw the first commercial. I didn't expect to like it as much as I do.) The build date is Dec 06 -- which as I understand it was smack in the middle of some possible build issues. Are there things I should check or have checked? Is there a VIN-based report that I could ask the dealer to run which will tell me if the vehicle is affected by any of the known problems? Should they have already done this? Also, for the Ford insiders -- my understanding is that we can drop in a cabin air filter even though ours didn't come with this option. However, my searching online hasn't come up with a part number or cost. Does anyone have that at their finger tips? Similarly, is there any chance that we've actually got full message center functionality if only we'd buy and install the appropriate buttons on the dashboard? (I don't really care about this, but I wondered if maybe there was a connector just sitting there behind the blank button spacers, waiting to be hooked up.) And one more thing -- I understand form posts here that DRL can be switched on by the dealer for US models, but that some people have gotten blank looks or been charged a bit to get this done. Is it reasonable for me to want this done for free? Thanks, J
